About This Club

The unprecedented success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has spread across film and TV. Discuss all things Marvel, whether MCU or not, here in this little club.
  1. What's new in this club
  2. Marvel isn't dying, but if they keep churning out products that get not so good reception, sooner or later it'll start affecting more than it is currently.
  3. They just need to be making better movies (and tv shows). They have just seem to have gotten a bit lazy or have creatively just hit a wall. Releasing even more content has just turned something special into a bit of a chore. People responded to billion grossers like Avatar 2, Top Gun: Maverick because of the care and attention put into them. It doesn’t seem Marvel care, as long as it’s serviceable they just release it and hope for the best. That’s how it feels to me anyway.
  4. This statement best summarizes it better than I could.
  5. I don’t think it’s dying but I do think certain highs may not be reached mainly due to portions of the GA leaving but the MCU still has a large fanbase. It reminds me a lot of Pixar in the 2010s. The movies will still be big with the big ones exploding but it may not be as big as its prime. The main thing to watch for is WOM, while I don’t think they’re hated, 3 of the 7 Phase 4 film had mixed WOM and if the problem persists this Phase it could be a problem, though as of now no. If Phase 5 has the problem, then we will worry.
  6. I wish it were true but its as strong as it has been. Ant-Man 2 opened to just 76m despite opening between 2 mega Avengers movies. But Ant-man 3 is behaving like a prequel to Avengers Kang Dynasty. Let us see how things go but Guardians 3 will explode out of the block and despite Marvels looking weak, the predecessor opened > 150m and grossed > 400m. Let us actually wait for a non event(s) from MCU before even consider this as a possibility.
  7. For people who feel they absolutely need to argue if MCU is dying or not, like the world will explode if they don't, just do it over here. We're done with this clogging up the Ant-Man thread.
  8. Exclusive: Big Hero 6 Characters Coming To The MCU - (thedisinsider.com)
  9. Nice, thank you for participating! (Chris Evans reacted on social media: news to him - we will see, maybe for multi-verse, some scenes of the past, ....?)
  10. Sooo, I’ll give it a try, someone else want to participate or...? Still feel there is no one place for all new (or discussing about it) related to the MCU, to me it feels rather spread out, see Disney+, the threads-per-movie.... Empire
  11. For posterity though, the answers are yes, yes, yes, no. This is frankly pretty obvious and suggestions otherwise come mostly from some kind of fandom bias, misunderstanding of the terms, or pure bad faith.
  12. It is there and got better post 2008. Before that you basically had Spider-Man 1 and 2, Batman Begins, and X2 with good character development. Post-2008 the situation got much better. You wouldn't see something like GOTG2 being made pre-2008.
  13. Is it there? NO Do people care about it? Sadly no for the most part. Do people like it? Yes, but not enough to sacrifice seeing their spectacle they paid for. Did it die in 2008? Yes, murdered although it’s not just one franchise doing it now a days.
  14. I had pretty much said my piece, but this seems like a fine general solution when thing get a bit off topic.
  15. Is it there? Do people care about it? Do people like it? Did it die in 2008? I don't know. I don't care. Argue about it here. @lorddemaxus @charlie Jatinder @Knights of Ren @WandaLegion go ham
  16. also confirmed: 'Mutants' in the work (with mutants or called as sich, we will see)

  20. = not best acting, best written, best something 😉 I like that approach I like best, my top group, per abc: Black Widow, but think we do not know the real her a lot, she is, what she needs to be for the moment, adapts. But very no-nonsense, very active,... Captain Marvel, but I do split up her role, means I like her the most, before and after she is .... Gamora, but think the presentation is partly a bit less than possible per script or direction in GotG 2 in especial Hope van Dyne, its increasing, at the start I did like her less than now. I'd list her as Wasp, but as her mother to was the Wasp... Maria Hill, I'd like to see her in more scenes. Not the comic version. She seems to be the rock Fury is and can counting on, if she is in one of the movies. Have only seen season 1 of Agents of SHIELD, in case there is something not good. Nebula, since she seems to be more than only an angry sibling Okoye probably one of the 'coolest' characters ever. Her eyes.... Valkyrie, hope to see a lot more of her. A step less, but mostly bcs I think its needs more screen-time or... Maria Rambeau Nakia Scarlet Witch Have to see a lot more, but like something already Janet van Dyne Christine Palmer (I'd love to see her organising a M.A.S.H. style thing around e.g. the Avengers 'events' or other bigger fights) I know, she broke her back and such, but would have loved to see more with Sif too Waiting till they grow up mentally, no matter if it is age or time to develop free will based experiences: Mantis Shuri Too young a character to know: Cassie Lang Maria Rambeau If I have not forgotten someone, the others are probably simple o.K., I do not expect them to come back on the long run (not enough scenes...), or.... The exception: I think Jane Foster was wrongly casted. In a way too bad way. Darcy Lewis got a lot of flak, but I think without her the movies with Jane Foster in it, would be worse. She helped to balance it out as fr as it was possible for a side character. I wouldn't mind to get to see her again in a part not focused on getting the flames out, reacting to the next strange whatever.
  21. So confirmed at this point we have Spider-Man 2, Black Widow, Eternals, Doctor Strange 2, Black Panther, Shang-Chi, and Guardians 3. I expect to see Ant-Man 3 and Captain Marvel 2 at some point. Spider-Man is also supposed to have a film every 2 years, so we’ll probably get Spider-Man 3 in 2021. Avengers 5 will probably end the phase, maybe in 2023. That’s a pretty full list already for Phase 4. I think X-Men and Fantastic Four come in at the beginning of Phase 5 (the latter could be squeezed in at the end of 4), so maybe like 2023 or 2024. We could definitely see spinoffs for Silver Surfer and Wolverine/Gambit/some other big X-Men member/team as well. Other characters I want them to introduce include Sub-Mariner, Moon Knight, Blade, and Nova (perfect setup with the decimation of Xandar). Something tells me the Netflix series will be retconned out of the MCU officially, maybe Inhumans as well, so hopefully we get something from any of those characters. Still wanna see Squirrel Girl too. Any of these could also wind up as Disney+ series of course.
  22. All major non-villainous female characters: 34. Betty Ross (Liv Tyler gave the worst performance in the MCU) 33. Ramonda 32. Maggie Lang 31. Christine Palmer 30. Frigga 29. Liz Toomes 28. Darcy Lewis (don’t hate her as much as most seem to, she had some good jokes in the 1st) 27. Mar-Vell 26. Jane Foster (thought she was good in the 1st, but she became mancrazy in the 2nd) 25. Helen Cho 24. Michelle Jones 23. Janet van Dyne 22. May Parker 21. Sif 20. Ancient One 19. Monica Rambeau 18. Maria Hill 17. Ava Starr (if she counts as good) 16. Sharon Carter 15. Maria Rambeau 14. Hope van Dyne 13. Pepper Potts 12. Carol Danvers (I need more but could easily reach Top 10) 11. Gamora 10. Shuri 9. Cassie Lang 8. Nakia 7. Natasha Romanoff 6. Okoye 5. Mantis (everything she does in the background is priceless) 4. Nebula 3. Valkyrie 2. Peggy Carter (hands down the best love interest) 1. Wanda Maximoff (one of the most underrated character arcs in the MCU)
  23.
