anybody know what those plagiarism claims are about?

 

I knew someone would ask about this. Some people on the internet are accusing Frozen copied the story of a Japanese anime, Saint Seiya Asgardian episodes, especially the ones with Polaris Hilda and her younger sister, Freya. The older one became villainous, there was ice involved, and the younger sister went to help, or something like that. And if I remember correctly, those are the only similar things between the two. And Elsa isn't even a villain. I think those accusations were based only on trailers and storyline, but they are actually completely different stories. Only small groups of otaku who have nothing else to do in their lives, make a fuss about it, nobody else cares.

So , the total should be around 7.7m.

>Frozen was mostly able to maintain its pace with Monsters University, increasing about 8.5% on Sunday vs. the 11.9% Monsters had. Because of the slightly smaller increase yesterday though, it looks like it'll open closer to ¥750 million ($7.5 million) than ¥800 million ($8 million). The 3-day total probably missed the ¥1 billion mark, but making ¥900 million+ ($9 million+) over three days is remarkable.

And regardless, an opening around ¥750 million (557,000 est. admissions) for an original film like this, not from Ghibli or Pixar, is incredible. It's the biggest non-Ghibli/Pixar or franchise (One Piece, Pokemon) animated film opening since at least 2001, but more than likely well before then or perhaps even ever since Disney's animated films from the 90s weren't too big outside of Aladdin.

Its target total is ¥7 billion ($70 million) and 5 million admissions based on the estimated opening.

>Doraemon held strong in the face of a huge opener that's bound to have family appeal, but competition in the past hasn't really effected this franchise much.

>Pretty Cure is down nearly 30% from last March's release. It has a pretty dedicated fanbase of 150-175,000 people who see each film opening weekend, but it may have lost some of them to Frozen seeing how it should be popular among young girls, too.

>RoboCop disappoints as expected. I thought the brand name was big enough to perhaps give it an opening over ¥100 million ($1 million), but that doesn't seem to be the case.
