Indian Box Office Thread | Jawan overtakes Pathaan, becomes highest grossing Indian movie of 2023

Recommended Posts

YJHD did 190 Cr+ in India and over 11 million dollars overseas. Basically more than any other movie apart from 3 Idiots.

Krrish 3 vs. Dhoom 3 is too close to call. Both have different things going for them:

- Krrish 3 is Hrithik Roshan's first starring role in almost 2 years and a sequel to his most successful film (I was part of a team which developed a case study based on Krrish, looking back the case study could have been much better).

- Dhoom 3 is a long long awaited sequel and is Aamir Khan playing a bad guy for the first time ever, a bumper opening is assured and with Christmas-New Year holidays it will hold well.

I would say Krrish 3 opens much bigger but finishes lower than Dhoom 3.

Isn't YJHD lower than Ek tha tiger???

Isn't YJHD lower than Ek tha tiger???

On Gross figures, yes. There is some debate whether the net figures are better or not. One thing is for sure, absolutely no one predicted that YJHD would be as huge as it turned out to be - it was a complete shocker.

YJHD doesn't deserve that much!

Chennai Express more than doubles the old preview record. http://www.koimoi.com/box-office/chennai-express-creates-its-1st-record-at-the-box-office-paid-preview-report/

Collecting whooping 6.75 crores from its paid previews i.e. on Thursday, the film has kick started with an overwhelming income.

The film has beaten the previous records of 3 Idiots which held the best fare amongst the films with paid previews. 3 Idiots on its preview day made an earning of 2.75 crores which was so far the best collection record by any film on its preview day.

Amazing OS start for Chennai Express as well

In UK, CHENNAI EXPRESS collected £ 142,220 in Thursday night previews, setting a new record. It has crossed the preview figures of MY NAME IS KHAN, KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNAA, 3 IDIOTS and EK THA TIGER.

In Australia and New Zealand too, CHENNAI EXPRESS is off to a fabulous start. ?The figures are: Australia A$ 38,315 ... New Zealand NZ$ 8,058.

The trends in USA-Canada are also similar, although the figures are yet to pour in.

Where will Chennai Express stop? Should be bigger than YJHD! But can it pass Ek Tha Tiger?

We won't know till Saturday numbers. OD will be huge, probably 30Cr+. How big it will be on Saturday and Sunday will give us an indication of word of mouth.

According to boxofficeindia, the OD record still stands.

IMO, they are the most credible source right now.

Previews were 6 crore nett and Friday was 29.25 crore nett (YJHD opened with 30.5 crore).

Saturday and Sunday should add 45-50 crore for 80-85 crore OW ($18-19m).

Should finish lower than YJHD/ETT in terms of total because Once Upon A Time in Mumbai 2 is opening next week and the drop will be huge (to the tune of maybe 75%).

165-170 crore finish.

How many admissions would that be?

Hard to figure out...........

But maybe....

100 crore comes from tickets avg. 250 (multiplexes) = 4 million

70 crore comes from tickets avg. 70 (single screens) = 10 million

Total - 14 million
