tupek
Oscar Nominations: Foreign Language Film “Ida” “Leviathan” “Tangerines” “Wild Tales” Relatos Salvajes - Argentina “Timbuktu” As of yesterday Relatos Salvajes did $18.1m only in Argentina (around $30m WW) and 3.48m admissions in Argentina and this week it was still on the seventh place of the Argentinean Box Office. Let's see how this nomination affects its run. Probably not at all. Edited January 15, 2015 by tupek
Hernan Gonzalez
Probably not at all. I really think it will. At the end of December, when it entered the final 9 movies with a possibility to get a nomination for the Oscars, it was up 139%!! Maybe not this weekend because it's already too late but next Thursday it is going to get many more screens. And Warner is not stupid to do what Disney did in Japan with Frozen and the DVD/Blu-ray release was delayed until the end of April

Hernan Gonzalez
So it's gonna get more screens? Probably next Thursday. Even without new screen Relatos Salvajes was up 167% compared to last Thursday Big Hero 6 fell only 14% and it's back at the second place Fury and Seventh Son are not going to do good. Their OD was pretty weak

Hernan Gonzalez
Penguins:39141 admissions. American Sniper:14595 admissions. Good OD for PoM, 30% better than The LEGO Movie last February. Not bad for American Sniper, let's see how it increases on Friday night and Saturday night. Big Hero 6 suffered the arrival of the Penguins and fell 42%, but Night at the Museum fell even harder from the 1st to the 5th place. Wild Tales doubled its screens and it is up 46%. Hernan Gonzalez
Weekend Top 5: 1- Penguins of Madagascar, 169116 admissions, new, $1.16m 2- American Sniper, 82482 admissions, new, $0.55m 3- Wild Tales (Relatos Salvajes), 53216 adm, +10%. Cume: 436866 adm, $2.7m The opening of PoM and AS hit hard the rest of the Top Ten except Wild Tales, that was up 10% thanks to an increase of screens. More on Thursday with the full week numbers I have to go because I don't want to be late for the 4:10 show of Into The Woods!! Hernan Gonzalez
Week Top 5: 1- Penguins of Madagascar, 295854 admissions, new, $2m 2- American Sniper, 126995 admissions, new, $0.8m 3- Wild Tales (Relatos Salvajes), 86946 adm, +9%. Cume: 3642371 admissions, $19m 4- Big Hero 6, 78548 adm, -52%. Cume: 1392066 adm, $8.4m 5- Night at the Museum 3, 72396 adm, -58%. Cume: 468415 adm, $2.8m Good Opening Week for Penguins of Madagascar! Actually it was a little bit better than Big Hero 6 first week, but I don't think it will have its legs. Not even close. I am thinking 800k admissions ($5m) should be its target. American Sniper had a good opening for a non blockbuster. Critics are pretty good. It should have a nice run. Wild Tales reached $19m and it still have a month until the Oscars... How far will it run? I would love to see it pass $20m!! Big Hero fell hard with the arrival of the penguins, but not as hard as the other films (non family movies included). I think it still has the potential to reach 1.5m admissions ($9m). It already passed Tangled in gross: Tangled, 1.62m admissions, $8.2m Big Hero 6, 1.39 admissions, $8.4m Wreck it Ralph, 1.17 admissions, $7.6m Frozen plays in another league here (1.94m admissions, $11.6m) The Hobbit 3 stand at $5.6m (772727 admissions) and it will probably fell out of the Top 10 next weekend. Hernan Gonzalez
Usually in this market the most awaited blockbusters are selling around 15k-20k advances tickets. Well, 50 Shades of Grey already sold 55000 advances admissions as of yesterday!!!! And it still has two weeks until its opening on Feb,12th.!!! Its OW is going to be huge!!! Also in Uruguay pre-sales for FSoG are very big, 10000 admissions!! This is huge taking in account that in this small market movies like X-Men, Big Hero 6 or Trans4mers sold less than 45000 admissions during their entire run!!!
