ITALY (Botteghino): 'Kung Fu Panda 4' stronger than predecessor

Recommended Posts

this Sniper BS outgrossing BoTFA is awful  :(

This kind of films, that are not well received in Latin America, Russia and Asia, tend to do good in Italy, Spain and France, better than non animated hollywood blockbusters and SH movies. On Thursday American Sniper stills on Top. Exodus opened around 10% under Noah

Saturday:

Exodus €0.9m ($1.05m)

American Sniper €0.8m ($0.95m)

Exodus OW should be around $2.6m-$2.7m (around 30% or 1m less than Noah)

American Sniper will pass €15m today, something only Maleficent did last year. Around $17m as of Sunday. $20m is a lock. €20m is still possible

Maleficent didn't pass 15M EU Last Year ;)

Exodus VS Noah in local currency is -10-11%

And Yes, 20 M EU aren't locked but aren't either impossible. If it loses 50% from now on it will catch 18,5M EU

Maleficent didn't reach €15m? WOW! The Euro was so strong back then!!! What a pity it fell so hard this year :(

Exodus closes the OW with a good Sunday. Now it's about on paar with Noah in LC (-2%). Noah closed its run at 7,8M EU.

AS crosses 15 M EU (first movie  to do that since Frozen and first 2D movie  to do that since Breaking Dawn P2). Considering it has made 3,35 M EU in the last 7 Days:

with 50% drops from now on: 15,4+3,35=18,75 M EU

with 40% drops from now on: 15,4+3,35*1,5= 20,4 M EU

TTOE had a good debut (1,4 M EU)

SAM is at 14,3 M EU and its on paar with the total of the actor's first and only other entry. It should make at least 16 M EU and become the first Non-Zalone and non-sequel italian movie to pass 15 since January 2011.

TIG is very impressive also: after a 1,27 M EU WE it has arrived at 5,6 M EU. It should make 7,5-8,5M EU! An amazing result. The King's Speech made 8,6 M EU (but only because it won at the Oscars)

It has been a very good January.

Cumulatives as of yesterday

American Sniper €15.96m ($19.38m) - (OD: Jan,1st - Exchange Rate: 1.21432)

Si Accettano Miracoli, €14.57m ($15.2m) - (OD: Jan,1st - Exchange Rate: 1.21432)

The Hobbit 3, €13.66m ($17.05m) - (OD: Dec,17th - Exchange Rate: 1.24811)
Il Ricco, il Povero e il Maggiordomo, €13.12m ($16.26m)(OD: Dec,11th - ER: 1.23951)

Big Hero 6, €9.31m ($11.6m) (OD: Dec,18th - ER: 1.24641)

Exodus €3.26m ($3.84m) - (OD: Jan,15th - ER: 1.17813)

I used the OD Exchange Rate to calculate the gross in $. It´s fairer than using today ER for all the movie run.

AS will pass for sure 19M € now. SAM should close above 15.8 M €. Exodus above 7 M €. TIG at about 8 M €.

Brief Predictions 2015 ---- All datas in Euro. In order of release:

Lock 10+ MLN €

  • 50 Shades of Grey: there are no true comparisions but the nearest I can see are High School Musical (+9 MLN €) and Twilight (+11 MLN €). A lot of curious people over 14 will watch it at the cinema.

  • Furious 7: the franchise has kept growing since the 4th entry (8,3 M € ---> 10,9 M € → 12,9 M €). This will for sure have a 12-15 M € result.

  • Avengers: AOU: Avengers did 18 M €. IM3, in 2013, did 16 M €. The only thing I am worried about is the average ticket price : TA had 8,43 EURO; IM3 7,03 EURO; TWS and GOTG about 6,75 EURO. AOU will likely have 6,9-7 EURO and if so, it will need a 20% increase in attendance to beat TA.

  • Minions: DM2 made 16M € 2 years ago. This won't make more but not that much less

  • Spectre: Skyfall made almost 13M €. Even if it loses some attendance, it's almost impossible to see it under 10 M €

  • Untitled Zalone's movie: if it ever get released in December, this won't have any problems becoming the most successful movie of the year. Zalone's last two entries made +43 M € and +51 M € respectively.

Possible 10+ MLN €

  • Cinderella: Maleficent (14 M €) and OZ (8 M €) are the comparisions: do the math

  • Jurassic World: JP3 did 5,5 M EU back in 2001. This will have 3D plus inflation. 7-9 M should be achieved. Can it pass 10 M €? Maybe. I bet it won't.

  • Ted 2: the original made 11 M € in Oct 2012. If it keeps the June release it will be hard to pass 10 M but anyway possible

  • Hunger Games MP2: the finale effect always works here in Italy. Twilight Saga added 20% with BD 2. Thus is possible for this to add 15%.

  • Inside Out/ Good Dinosaur
