Everybody knows the song "Tomorrow". I think it could do good in the States, but how do you think the movie will do OS? It should do good in those countries where musicals are well received, like Australia, South Korea, Japan and the UK. Critics in the States are very good. The UK led 12 new debuts on $3.6m including previews from 380 screens to rank third. Sony’s update of the classic musical grossed an estimated $1.4M on 530 screens in 19 territories. The overseas cume is now $19.4M. SPRI has $14.8M of that and Village Roadshow claims $4.6M. The UK added $900K in its 3rd frame for a $9.9M cume, its largest market to date. Annie, Sandy and the orphans next take the hard-knock life to Germany (January 15), Mexico (January 23), Japan (January 24) and Spain (January 30)." The musical opened in Germany on $550,000 including previews from 403 screens and added $655,000 in its fourth weekend in the UK for $10.7m. The musical bowed at No. 1 in Spain with $1.2M on 290 screens, higher than last week’s Into The Woods debut, and was also No. 1 in South Africa with $243K on 91 screens. In total, the gross this weekend was an estimated $4.2M on 2,501 screens from 33 territories. That includes Japan which had a slight 21% drop for a $5M cume. The overseas total is now $32.9M.
