Moving from 4th of July to May 30th does not indicate confidence.

Since they have moved Maleficent up from July 2nd 2014 to May 30th 2014, probably means that they plan on being ready to release Maleficent in theaters by then. Or, That they think they will be ready to be release it by then, because they have finished filming the movie and the reshoot of Maleficent's opening scene or opening scenes will be done by then. So it has nothing what so ever to do with their confidence in the movie. If they weren't confident in releasing the movie or weren't ready to release it, they would have moved the movie release date back further to back in July again or later in 2014.

It sucks about the script because you have two great writers Paul Dini and Linda Wolverton. Perhaps you've heard of their work, Batman the Animated Series for Dini. Beauty and the Beast, the Lion King for Wolverton.Okay the latter did Alice in Wonderland so that's a strike

Agreed both have done such great work. Maybe Disney was too controlling on how to write the script.

When your done with a film has less import than when it can make the most money (well, within a reasonable time frame). 4th of July weekend is prime real estate if you've got a winner. May 30th is a slower summer weekend post holiday. That's just not confidence IMO. You don't just leave a 4th of July release date cause a film is done earlier than expected. There's more money to be made 4th if you've got the right film. My opinion...they don't have the right film. And they know it.It costs money to move back. It saves money to move forward (well, unless you're accelerating production). And that's ignoring potential of how release dates can play into a films performance. This does not read like a move based on pure logistics, it's definitely more than that.

I think they moved up for two reason.

Good dinosaur moving and not to be by Transformers.

They know that they don't have the right film, that's why the reshoots on the ending of the movie are happening or happened. It was the ending that they had problems with. Considering that they haven't moved its released date away from May 30th 2014, probably means that they are confident of that weekend to release the movie. Look back at the movies that did real well that weekend in recent years. I bet that's another part of the reason they plan on releasing the movie during then. Plus, Like Dexter of Suburbia said, they took it further away from the theatrical release of Transformers: Age of Extinction.

Good Dinosaur moving yes...hey, we want some revenue in that quarter. Transformers? That was a known quantity...if they had more faith in the movie, they'd think it could hold its own. Clearly minds have changed on that front...IMO.

MALEFICENT moved simply because Disney doesn't have a May tentpole.

Maybe Disney moved it considering how poor Lone Ranger did on that weekend this year?

Yes, That could very well be the reason.

Yes, So do I. But the teaser trailer isn't coming until Friday December 20th, with the theatrical release of Saving Mr Banks.

I don't see why it would mean that considering that Catching Fire is not a Disney movie.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't one if they are doing a sneak peek on TV
