Poland Box Office | Avatar: The Way of Water is HUGE

I still predict Disco Polo to pass 1 milion admissions. It has really good marketing on big 4 channels. Plus it seems that people want to watch movies in last 6 months. This years February is huge so far.

It needs to open above 150k to do that. It's a strange movie since a ton of people will be very negative towards it because of the topic. Will probably see it tomorrow but if it wasn't for the free tickets for early screenings I'd probably pass.

I predict OW range of 150k-200k.

People from big cities always complain about Disco Polo music but they always listen to it when they are not in work or in town.

I'm yet to meet someone that really listens to it. Though my friend group is specific and I get more understanding when I talk about Jodorowsky then when I talk about Kanye

Maybe popularity of Tomasz Kot will bring people to theaters after such a good performance in Bogowie. After trailer I don't have good feelings bout it but I get used to that Polish comedies aren't really fun just so pathetic (except a few). I don't know if I go to see it (probably not ;p) but seeing a Polish movie on the top wknd box office and seeing big drop 50SoG is what I'm expecting :D

I know 3 people who have seen it and they all liked it despite them hating polish comedies. The script was also decent if not great. It's not a typical silly comedy.

Great year so far. Not a single weekend under 500k admissions, with one record 1.328 milion weekend and 4 more 750k+ weekend. Last year we only had 3 over 700k weekend during whole year!!! Jan-Feb had over 10.6 milion tickets sold. That's over 25% of last year total admissions. Upcoming weeks should have smaller attendence numbers and Easter Weekend will be once again a very weak weeknd. April-August period will be interesting because it's always hard to predict how weather will affect the box office. Usually good, sunny weather will mean poor box office, but sometimes there are movies that are not affected by it.

Disco Polo is heading towards 1 milion admissions. 2 more good holds during weekend and it should happen.

50SoG is looking at 1.85-1.9 milion finish at this point. Still it's a fantastic result.

Pinguins of Madagascar have lost the power in their engine and are falling fast. Right now 1.65-1.7 is the finish line. Still it's a great success.

American Sniper and SpongeBob are doing really good. Both should end up with 400k+ admissions but they won't reach 500k.

Weekend numbers (13-15 March 2015 )

  1. Cinderella                                      106 551 / 106 551
  2. Disco Polo                                       84 431 / 708 163
  3. Body/Cialo                                      46 110 / 148 954
  4. Yellowbird                                       39 641 / 104 951
  5. Chappie                                          33 373 / 36 034
  6. The SpongeBob Movie:SOOW            25 472 / 361 088
  7. Focus                                              23 620 / 94 559
  8. American Sniper                               22 263 / 382 744
  9. 50 Shades of Grey                            18 281 / 1 784 479
  10. Asterix: Le domaine des dieux            15 126 / 135 876

Total admissions : 516 357 admissions

Q1 2014 - 11.982 milion admissions

Q1 2015 - 12.433 milion admissions ( and 16 days left so it should end around 13.4-13.7 milion )

Cinderella - good start. This should have good legs until Easter.

Disco Polo - last week was inflated due to Women's Day. No sure if it's going to pass 1 milion admissions anymore because week days are weak for this movie.

Body/Cialo - this movie is doing really good. It should have really good legs in upcoming weeks.

Yellowbird - kids movie, bla bla bla, good legs, bla bla bla, should do over 200k ;)

Chappie - rather weak opening. I don't predict good legs for this one.

50 Shades of Grey - it's finishing it's run and to be honest it was actually pretty spectacular ( at least the start ) ;)

End of the year is getting big local movie. TVN started production of Listy do M. sequel. ( first movie had over 2.5 milion admissions ). First movie wasn't bad and I'm pretty sure TVN will be marketing it 24/7  :P

Disco polo won't even reach 900k.

Chappie will do what other moderately liked 30-35k movies did. I say it does equalizer results. Ex Machina won't hurt it since it is released on very few screens (no MK Zlote Tarasy ffs)

As for yellowbird - look how many kids movies perform well this year. You have a kids movie almost every week and they all do good.

Listy do M was filmed 2 or 3 days ago in Arkadia. Wonder who will distribute it. They aren't connected to ITI (now VUE) so it's not as abvious as before.

That's why I wrote my summary of yellowbird the way I did ;) It seems that every single animated movie will do well. I wonder why no polish studio has decided to make an animated movie yet. I'm pretty sure Platige Image would be able to do it ( they already did one for UAE government )
