No. Actually far from it.

The Smurfs was A LOT more popular than Tintin, and it opened less than 14m and earned a total of 40m. Tintin will do less.

All the articles I have read from Chinese press, it seemed pretty popular (whether at the levels of Smurfs, I don't know).Also, China seems to like action-adventure. So it could have done fairly decently in China even with no earlier awareness.
