The best vampire movie ever made. Love this movie and still remember how blown away I was the first time I saw it (which was luckily in the theater and not the botched subtitled early version on dvd). Finally having the theatrical subtitled version on blu-ray is a treat. Flat out amazing little movie.A/A+

Let the Right One In

The worst Swedish movie I've seen. I liked the pace, but more needed to fill the running time. Gleiberman had it right when he said there were a few creepy images but very little holding them together.

C+

This movie is too good for you, move along.

Wow! High praise....I must check this out.

It really is a great little film, with awesome jobs done by the two kids. It's not for everyone I admit but I'd say definitely check it out, especially being the horror/vampire movie fan you are. Just make sure to find the theatrically subtitled version (which should be the only ones available by now).

Where do I begin? It's certainly the best vampire movie ever made as FTF said, but is that really giving the movie enough credit? Let the Right One In reminded me of why foreign cinema can be so brilliant. You would certainly never see a lot of themes in this movie in a mainstream American film (Just look at Let Me In, a good but much safer remake of this), which is partly why this movie made so little while it was in theatres, yet the people who did see it often list it as one of the greatest horror films in recent years. With that being said though, I'm not really sure if it's fair to call this a horror movie.

Unlike most horror films LTROI isn't entirely focused on building suspense and showing intense scenes of blood and gore. It's much more subtle than that, with a hint of horror in its love scenes and a hint of despair in its more frightening scenes. What must be done must be done, and Eli longs to keep herself alive if it means harming another human being. But how do we feel for such a bloodthirsty killer? Simple. Eli wants us too. Eli feels remorse for her victims and lives a complicated, yet extremely lonely life with her aging guardian. And then there's Oskar. Oskar is even more lonely than Eli. Surrounded by uncaring adults and without a child to talk to, Oskar knows no better than to befriend Eli. What follows is a realistic portrayal of how a relationship between a vampire and a human would actually work and the unfortunate complications it would undoubtedly face.

Both children are incredibly good, but Lina Leandersson in particular is outstanding. You can read her own inhibitions through her eyes. It's an exceptional performance from someone so young. The old man is also very, very good.

To sum it up, Let the Right One In is one of my favourite subtitled films of all time. Deep down beyond the vampire theme, Let the Right One In is about two isolated children that find their own identification within each other. It's a cold and lonely film, yet it's not depressing and doesn't leave you with a bad feeling when it finishes. Do NOT skip this movie thinking it's either A: a typical foreign horror movie or B: another vampire romance running on the success of the Twilight phenomenon, because it's certainly not.

I really liked this film. Had a very creepy feel to it. It didn't go for the cheap scares It was well acted. And the pool sequence one of the best shot scenes in recent memory A-

This movie blows away any other vampire movie I've seen. It just had that realistic feel to it, rather than your average vampire movie where they are 'super fast, super stong'. Don't get me wrong, I'm a sucker for vampires like that (NOT twilight, but true blood is cool). But this was a refreshing new view on vampires. It's funny because me and my sister just came upon this because it was assigned to us from one of our college classes. We had to write a paper on it, and me and my sister when it started were ready to make fun of it. About 15 minutes into it we were actually hooked.
