  1. Godzilla was never going to be Marvel sized because its never been that kind of franchise over here and it's bizarre to think that honestly. G-2014's novelty boost of 90 million was always going to be a one-off of perfect storms (Bryan Cranston coming high off of Breaking Bad is underdiscussed for that movie's gross). For as much as I personally think GxK's awful, the way its been performing box office wise is a success story as it is, especially with that muuuuch lower budget of 137 million.
  2. Also admittedly, the top critic rating is atrocious. This is just one of the biggest RT divides in a while. Among every critic it's almost 30% higher.
  3. I think a planet that only communicates through song so there's an impromptu musical segment is equally as goofy, if not more, then Kong riding on Godzilla's back.
  4. I feel like if I were to describe it, G-2014 is Phase 1 MCU (Or MoS & BvS if you want to go DC), K:SI and KoTM are like Phase 2 MCU (Or ZS JL DC wise), GvK is like Ant-Man & The Wasp or Thor Ragnarok Phase 3 MCU, and GxK from a lot of accounts is Phase 4 MCU. It's a consistent slide into bigger and more outlandish stuff with the tone getting sillier and sillier.
  5. I'd disagree, KoTM has more in common with 2014 and Skull Island then it does GvK or GxK. I'd get into it but I don't want to bog the thread down in an unrelated movie.
  6. This has been explained numerous times by the VFX team themselves. It was a small team and the director himself was part of it. No one was mistreated.
  7. Admittedly I'm only really curious about how GxK does from a facts perspective tbh. In my personal opinion GvK and (what I've seen and heard) GxK are pretty awful so I have no real emotional ties to how they do. For me the MV ended film wise with KoTM and since then I've only really enjoyed Monarch.
  8. Saw someone on twitter say it got pushed back to Thursday, which if true is rough and not good. Already not a great sign that none of the trades or big press put out reactions last night review wise. Like Brainbug said though, what happens really depends on how the GA feel when they see it.
  9. Insane how vitriolic this is over a differing opinion. You’d think I said it was a guaranteed bomb thanks to it and not just, in MY opinion, not great. No one has to agree with me but the pages upon pages now mocking me instead of even really discussing my point is reminding me to just never post on here unless it’s “cool numbers”.
  10. You guys saying 'some' like it's not incredibly obvious who you mean. I think it's a bad move, we'll see in March.
  11. GvK was a straight to streaming COVID release which was also dealing with Legendary and WB not seeing eye to eye on sending it to streaming or not. It's not a sensible comparison and if GxK opens the exact same as GvK that wouldn't be a good result for it.
  12. Its marketing cycle was already crazy short, that's two less weeks of awareness.
  13. Solo had a 3 month marketing cycle that hurt it immensely. GxK is also going to end up with a 3 month marketing cycle (December to March is 3 months).
