  1. Finally got around to seeing this, and my first thought was "That was it?" I had heard so many good things about this film but hadn't seen it because my son wasn't interested. But I got a chance to catch it on HBO and was underwhelmed. I liked the action despite the sometimes cheesy CGI but didn't care much for the story. Some of the scenes were cringe-inducing. The going to sleep scene on the boat, the clothes shopping scene, and the teaching to dance scene were particularly bad. I really liked Gadot, and Pine was okay. The Amazons left much to be desired as a people. C+
  2. Another good time at the movies. LOVED Domino. The skydiving scene was gold, especially Brad. Negatives were a few dead spots that had me and my son just looking around bored, especially the never-ending death scene. Just too long. Didn’t make any sense that Cable would stay. The cab driver was dead weight this go round. And I was a bit disappointed in some of the action, it didn't quite measure up to the first. B+
  3. Finally got to see this before it leaves theaters and I liked it, but it wasn't great by any means. I loved Rey's side of the story. Her interactions with Luke and especially with Kylo made the film worthwhile to me. Both Rey and Kylo have evolved into fascinating characters. The other side of the story, the rebels escape, left much to be desired. Subpar melodrama with an occasional "huh?" thrown in is not what I'm looking for. Except for Del Toro's character, I did not like the casino excursion. I enjoyed the battle scenes and some of the visuals were spectacular. B
  4. I enjoyed it but it really didn't live up to all the hype. First off, I know nothing about the Black Panther comics so I have no idea how true to it the movie stayed. I thought most of the action was pretty good. The final battle in the field was a bit chaotic, and I didn't really like the virtual car and fighter. Killmonger was a great character. I wish he had a bit more screen time. Loved Nakia and Okoye. I liked Shuri but she was a bit too "Q" for me. The story was okay. What surprised me most was how bad some of the production looked. And I mean bad by completely taking me out of the moment. Scenes in the jungle or outdoors that looked so clean, so neat, they reminded me of daytime soaps. That scene when they were extracting Nakia was like, WOW, this looks terrible. It didn't make me think they were in a jungle at all. But, like I said, I enjoyed it. I wouldn't buy the DVD, but if I was flipping though the channels and found it, I'd probably watch again. B+
  5. Finally got around to seeing this and LOVED it! I was cracking up throughout the film. I thought all the principles were great but my favorite was Johnson. That kissing scene was priceless. Now my son and I are practicing our smoldering look. A+
  6. Caught this on HBO and was underwhelmed. It's Statham so the action is pretty good. The story is terrible though. The part where he escapes to Michelle Yeoh's place and meets Alba felt like an hour by itself. God, that dragged. And I didn't buy the connection to Alba that would make him do what he didn't want to do. It was really weak. And I had to laugh at something about the second assassination. He was given only 36 hours to do it (for reasons!) and he would've needed way more time than that to do all the planning they showed him doing for it considering everything happened during the daytime. But like I said, the action is pretty good and that's the main reason I watch Statham movies. But he's gotten to the point where I expect a little bit more. C-
  7. Just watched on HBO. The action is insane. Reminded me of The Transporter 2 in how so much of the action was straight out over-the-top ridiculous. But while not the least bit realistic, it was incredibly entertaining if you just go with it. I could go with most although a couple of things just made me roll my eyes too much (the number of cars that had auto-drive & a submarine that could travel as fast as their cars, come on). Loved the banter between Hobbs and Deckard. Kurt Russell was pretty good too. B-
  8. Pretty good action flick. Good story, good villain. B+
  9. Recorded this on cable a few weeks back and finally was able to watch. I thought it was okay, nothing more. Some of the action was good, some of it looked too choreographed. There was a decent amount of laughs. I loved the idea for the story, Will Turner's son trying to free his dad from his curse. I don't think it was well executed. I didn't like the surprise near the end. It was too daytime soapish. I wished Bardem had more screen time. C
  10. Seen this twice now in the past month and I still love it. It's my favorite Pixar film. I love Remy and Ego but Skinner's my favorite character. He's so funny. Loved the soundtrack too. A+
  11. I ended up enjoying this although it was at times a chore to sit through. First, the opening credits just about put me to sleep. I hated that song they used. In the first half, pretty much every scene without action was boring as all get out. I haven't seen any previous DC movies with these characters/actors so if there were tie-ins to previous films, it was lost on me. The villain was lacking. He certainly looked menacing but I think they needed to show him doing more than just retrieving the blocks. He wasn't evil enough. Did he even kill a human? I didn't care for Batman. Aquaman reminded me too much of WWE's Roman Reigns, who I'm not a big fan of. That was kind of distracting. I loved Wonder Woman. I'll have to check out the Wonder Woman film now. Flash was great. Cyborg and Superman also get thumbs up. The action is what saved the film for me. I thought it was awesome. B-
  12. Went with my 9 year-old. He loved it. I thought "meh." Didn't care too much for most of the humor. Didn't like the two boys at all. Maybe I'm just getting old. C-
  13. It was good but I still left somewhat disappointed. There were lots of laughs but I just didn't care for the story at all. Way too much about Batman and Joker's feelings for me. It produced some good gags but I wanted a more purely action film instead of all the mumbo jumbo about Batman needing people. One plot point to quibble about is Joker going to the Phantom Zone to bring back all these super villains and General Zod, arguably the most powerful, is nowhere to be found or even mentioned even after we see Superman putting him there in the beginning. 14. 1. ANH 2. ESB 3. ROTS 4. AOTC 5. RO 6. TFA 7. TPM 8. ROTJ
  15. I really enjoyed this. It's a great story and I loved the crisp pace. The FX were awesome. I thought the acting was pretty good. My only quibble would be we get to know so little about Yen's, Jiang's, and Whitaker's characters that their deaths, which the film wanted me to care about, didn't have that much of an impact for me. My favorite character was K-2SO. A
  16. Saw this with my 9 year-old, the 2D version. I enjoyed it. The main story is too by-the-numbers to rate higher. But the characters are pretty well done and it looks great. B-
  17. Saw this with my son and it was pleasant. Some pretty good laughs (the cupcakes CRACKED me up). The story was rather predictable but nothing really bad. It looked great. My son is now sold on 3-D. Voice work was good too. I didn't care for much of the music though. I just prefer original songs in films like this. B-
  18. TPM: Unfortunately, it's the horrible Jake Lloyd. AOTC: Yoda fighting Dooku ROTS: Anakin/Obi-Wan duel ANH: Vader ESB: Dad! ROTJ: Ewoks TFA: Han
  19. 1. Titanic 2. LOTR: The Return of the King 3. Avatar 4. Toy Story 3
  20. 1. It's a Wonderful Life 2. The Big Sleep 3. Spirited Away 4. Once 5. Raiders of the Lost Ark 6. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope 7. Young Frankenstein 8. The Maltese Falcon 9. Casablanca 10. The Godfather
  21. I would've made a story with an older Anakin in his thirties and Obi-Wan in his forties. That would fit the 20 years later in ANH. It would've been about the start of the Clone Wars with them as full Jedi Masters kicking butt and taking names. No R2-D2 or C3PO. I would've had Anakin turning at the end of Episode II and Episode III would've been about the Empire being victorious in the Clone wars and destroying the Jedi and the Republic.
  22. You do need training to use the Force. What do you think the younglings were there for? Or what any padowan was doing? It wasn't for regular schooling. It was to learn how to use the Force. Yes, the Force guides and helps you. But it can't give you abilities or knowledge you don't already have. Luke knew how to fly stuff. The X-wing was similar to what he flew back on Tatooine. He knew how to shoot with the fighter. The Force helped him be better. Luke had some training when he dueled with Vader in ESB. In the beginning, Vader was just toying with him. And when he wanted to, he overpowered Luke with the greatest of ease. In ROTJ, a more mature Luke was better able to handle himself. But he was losing that fight until he tapped into the Dark Side.
  23. In ANH, Luke did not fight with Vader. In ESB, Luke got his ass kicked by Vader. In ROTJ, Luke was trained when he fought Vader and defeated him only when he tapped into the Dark Side. You could make a case that Rey tapped into the Dark Side, but even you believe she had no training.
  24. If she's a Skywalker, well so is Ren. He's Leia's son. So he should be extremely strong with the Force as well. Force with training should beat Force without training.
  25. Yes, the younglings would have been Rey's age. My point is that they did not receive any extensive training with light sabers. They were shown using the same ball that Luke used in ANH. That doesn't prepare you for a fight, it's only for defensive moves and to learn to feel the Force. From the time she would have trained as a young girl to the present, her knowledge and skills, as limited as they would have been, would have diminished from lack of continued training. Even if the Force jogged her subconscious, she wouldn't have known enough about using a light saber to defeat someone with Kylo's training. He was certainly no master, but he's had training.
