    Ironically, DUNKIRK isn't even the first blockbuster I've seen on 70mm this year. Caught KONG and WONDER WOMAN on 70 as well.
  3. I do visit Film-Tech. But being worried about a narrowing theatrical window (or being anxious that the studios want to eliminate it entirely) is different from saying Netflix is bad for movies.
  4. There are a ton of assumptions here. I'm not sure I agree with any of them. But putting that aside, whether or not Netflix is ultimately successful as a company is beside the point of what Nolan's talking about: he seems to think that somehow every company (and studio) will switch to their model when it seems clear (to me) that they are one particular outlet of distribution. Their success or failure doesn't doom an industry. If Nolan was around in 1986 he'd be making the same argument against home video and VHS. And while his technical arguments aren't wrong (it's an inferior way to watch a movie and in addition you lose out on the shared experience), in no way shape or form did it ruin the moviegoing experience or stop people from becoming huge fans of world cinema.
  5. Part of the problem is that his fans immediately echo a generic "fuck Netflix!" attitude, without the context he's saying. But while I completely support and cherish the theatrical experience, I think without question some film have found an audience on streaming that they never would've found otherwise (because they wouldn't have been purchased). And while perhaps some movies warrant a theatrical push and campaign, there's a business model that can successful with streaming only, but would fail otherwise. As a random (made-up) example: if Amazon buys 10 movies and gives them limited theatrical runs, and Netflix buys 50 movies and doesn't, is there a true "right" or "wrong" method here? I suspect if you were a fan (or the filmmaker) for one of the 50 you'd probably be happy. It just seems a tad churlish to scorn a model that literally can provide the only outlet for some new filmmaking voices, especially when you happen to be a position where you're at the absolute top of the film pyramid.
  6. The Adam Sandler movies, for one. Putting aside whether each and every one of them is a solid investment, they (and other streaming services) can be a real boon to low-level indie filmmakers. That's why Nolan's argument -- while not wrong at bigger budget levels -- doesn't seem to take into account that not everyone is making a studio feature with a significant budget.
  7. There's no news or info, it's just an op-ed piece, as it were. I also disagree that a Netflix movie hasn't been successful yet: their intentions and purposes are quite different than theatrical distributors and that's fine.
  8. If you're a parent and you need to see a movie (with your kids) in theaters now, it doesn't matter what comes out in a few weeks.
  9. Each device is a separate login, so that might explain it. The security question issue is a known bug. Email verification is a way to bypass it, but if need be PM an admin and we can wipe out the security answers and put some temp ones in place for you.
