  1. Happy with how much healthier the box office for 2024 looks now versus a few weeks ago. Lots of wildcards to look forward to, and fingers crossed for less doomposting.
  2. The third act kinda fell apart for me a bit. At a certain point, it practically lampshaded any criticism of weightless action scenes by have an actual weightless action scene. Rio looked especially terrible too, almost to the point where I was squinting to try and find AI elements, but I might just be getting too paranoid. Lots of fun little moments in this, but ultimately disappointing. More Godzilla next time, please.
  3. Anecdotal, but the trailer never seems to get good reception whenever I see it, and I've seen it a lot the last few months.
  4. The whole cast was awesome in this, but especially Bardem, who had couple of good comedic moments that really worked for the audience. Shouty Timothee also really worked, though I can totally see Clay's point about the transition being too abrupt. I think the change of Chani being a skeptic helps here though, as there's a palpable dread hanging over everything. It's a tad alienating to lose Paul's perspective at this point, but that might also be the point as well. Beyond curious what approach Denis would take with Messiah at this point. Please, please let it happen.
  5. Interesting announcements, for sure. After-hours trading seems to like it, for what that's worth.
  6. Kinda hard to be surprised by announcements anymore with leaks and whatnot, but this definitely counts as a surprise. Looking forward to it.
  7. Hope you're wrong here, if only because summer could really use the boost. X was a nice throwback, and I'm definitely in for more, which is kind of crazy to say after 20 years.
  8. For anyone into college football, what a pair of games today. I think my heart is still racing. 😁
  9. Guess it just needed to be serviceable for people to show up, but the trailers didn't even make it look serviceable, imo.
  10. I wouldn't think so either, but man, those market cap and cash on hand numbers are crazy. Just hoping they keep seeing some value in theatrical distribution for the long haul.
  11. These reviews have definitely piqued my curiosity, after admittedly being somewhat let down by the trailers I've seen.
  12. I haven't really been following it at all, but the advertising campaign seems to be picking up, and it just doesn't look very good, imo.
  13. Really found the post-war setting interesting as well. It's not something that I've personally seen a ton of, and they did a great job with it, especially for the budget. I assume Japanese navy fans probably found a lot to like as well.
  14. Saw Godzilla Minus One tonight. Super impressed with it. It's pretty visually fantastic, as everyone has been saying, and the score and sound design is awesome. Had a good turnout in the largest auditorium as well.
  15. It's not quite the Fury Road trailer, but what is? Might be a touch too clean and saturated visually, as others have said, but the cast is awesome and Miller is awesome. Should be good.
  16. Just got out of Thanksgiving, and had a really great time with it. Would definitely recommend seeing it with a crowd. The opening scene is better than anything in Napoleon.
  17. Definitely need to make time to watch it. Some of the shots I've seen from it look really incredible in scope.
  18. Can't help but think I would have preferred a movie that focuses on the hundred days and Waterloo. The final blowout battle is indeed impressive, but everything else fell a flat for me. The movie simply covers way too much, too quickly, and Joaquin Phoenix is not good in the role at all. Despite taking up a large portion of the runtime, the Napoleon-Josephine relationship was super opaque to me, and basically just provided moments to show how weird and awkward this sketch of Napoleon is. Maybe it would have been interesting if his personal life was contrasted with how charismatic he could be to the public and with his troops, but he's anything but charismatic in this movie. This did get a pretty good laugh in my theater, haha.
  19. Pretty disappointed by this. John David Washington is unfortunately not good here, and there is absolutely no nuance to be found, even as it deals with some very big (and potentially topical) themes. It definitely deserves a commendation for the visuals though, especially if the reported budget is correct.
