  1. Hello, you guys probably forgot about this. I will be finishing the final 31 movies. I will not be posting anymore until I finish all write ups. I had a rough couple months I had a severe wrist sprain this winter while I had the flew and honestly just kind of lost interest in this for a while. but it doesn't seem fair to keep the BEST films from you guys. it may be another month or so. but I don't want to start posting just to stop again. so almost everything will be pre-written so it should be pretty quick once I do. So @Krissykins, @ringedmortality, @toutvabien, @TalismanRing, @JWR, @nydedan, @joselowe, @The Panda, @LegionWrex, @AN9815, @solaris, @Potiki, @Kalo, @Tower, @Fanboy, @Valonqar, @WorkingonaName, @Fancyarcher, @Arlborn, @Arsal, @Arsal, @Jake Gittes, @von Kenni, @Cap, @ListenHunnyUrOver, @across the Jat verse, @Barnack Sorry for the forever wait. if I every do another countdown I think I will have to do it all pre-written beforehand. I'd rather get all the lists in and have you guys wait a month or two then start it and then have to wait a month or two in the middle of it. and then a another month or two...
  2. In the sense that she took the role. I suppose. But she was directed and he liked the direction she was taking it in. I don't know. It's one of those very rare films that I think was very well made. But I have to many moral dilemmas to say I liked it. I'm not a very big fan of Yargos and he seems kind of like a creep to me tbh. I really have a hard time seeing it as a feminist film. When there is so much female exploitation taking place in the film.
  3. Don't know how to say this without spoilers, but from that perspective, she actually plays "the victim"
  4. Thanks to their being almost no big SH films this year there actually could be a lot of $200-$300m hits this year. Dune Part 2 $280-$310m Kung Fu Panda 4 $180-$220m Furiosa $160-$220m Inside Out 2 $250-$350m Despicable me 4 $250-$350m Twisters $150-$220m Deadpool & Wolverine $285-$385m Borderlands $180-$280m Beetlejuice Beetlejuice $150-$250m Joker: Folie à Deux $250-$300m Venom 3 $200-$230m Gladiator II $250-$350m Wicked $150-$250m Moana 2 $120-$200m (probably not though) Untitled Karate Kid $130-$230m The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim $130-$230m Mufasa: The Lion King $150-$250m Sonic the Hedgehog 3 $180-$250m Nosferatu $110-$200m. (probably not that high but who knows) Like Seriously I see almost no film hitting $400m+ dom this year. a very small chance for DP3 and IO2. Maybe Gladiator II, but I doubt it. so really almost all of the potential hits are looking to fall into this range.
  5. Sorry I know this is a really long post. It's basically an article but I wanted to post it somewhere were people can discuss it and it has been on my mind for a while.
  6. Before I write this I am going to say I mean this with no disrespect to anyone working in the industry. I know there are several people working in the industry on this site. I am just an outsider, granted a lifetime film fan who watches 50-70 films released a year. but I do not live in or work for Hollywood. but this is a glaring issue I have noticed, especially since the start of the new decade. and think it should be discussed. Now there have always been bad movies being made. But I am here to discus why I think there has been a major decline in the quality of films being released and it is almost always one area, the Script or maybe studio interference has been gradually getting worse for at least the past 5 years on a wide scale. actors are not getting worse. most of the time there is some incredible talent involved with these films, the set design, actors, cinematography are all top notch, but it is like it is there to cover up and elevate a weak script. Whats funny as there have been some massive delays in these films since 2020. thanks to the pandemic of 2020 and writers/actors strike last year. So you would think there would have been MORE time to perfect these issues', but the film comes out with just of flimsy and weak, rushed scripts as ever. and I have noticed this decline in all types of film, mainstream blockbusters, arthouse films, mid-budget films. I have noticed it seems to be the least affected in smaller budgeted and independent films, which makes believe that one of the biggest issues has to be studio interference. but I don't know if that is all of it. another thing I have noticed as the issues is almost entirely in Hollywood, If I want to see a good film today I will almost always choose an international film over a domestic one, (if I want quality that is). This may vary per studio but I do think Disney is one of the worst as far as quality drop in the last few years, I want to say I like Disney (well used to at least). I grow up on Disney movies, and It saddens me they have fallen this far in just the last couple of years. But lets take their Marvel films, Avengers Endgame is my favorite superhero film of all time, you can tell it was 10 years in the making, it has an excellent script, if not perfect, but it's incredibly solid, and it is elevated by a staller cast, master directing, and most of all it does not feel like it was rushed. and that was released in 2019. from 2020 onwards I have enjoyed most of their films to an extant (Especially Spider-Man NWH, Loki and WandaVision). but the quality has been much less consistent, and some of them just out-right not very good. The Marvels for example, I enjoyed solely because of it's cast namely Iman Vellani, who carries what would have been a very bland rushed plot, with almost no character devolvement from it's other two leads. and I not gonna hate on Brie Larson, Brie Larson did a fine job for what she had work with, especially considering how much hate she gets from the online trolls. but once again the issue with this movie was not the cast, it was to script we get an extremely weak villain with motivations that are do not even make since... But moving on from that I do feel there is this creative lock on what can be done in Hollywood, there are just certain things that can't be done anymore because they are afraid they are going to offend a certain demographic, now I don't want to get too political here, I am not very political, I am not a right-winger, or a leftest, I am bisexual and I do like to see some diversity in the film industry, but I feel that the way it has been Incorporated into a lot of mainstream films and tv feels extremely forced, inauthentic, and even pandering. Now I like diversity. true diversity. (the Sandman is a good example of being extremely diverse without sacrificing any of the original stories quality imo) but If every film that is being released has to fill Slot A B and C on checking a demographic, and correct viewpoint or to try and gain as wide of audience as possible. (The Rings of Power did this to an extent) it starts to feel more like a science experiment. or *gasp* propaganda then an actual piece of art, or even as cash grab, which I get it the film industry is a business, they got to make money, but here's the thing the film industry as a whole has lost more money they they ever have in such short period of time. Disney lost an estimated $1b dollars last year, just at the US box office alone. that's not a good number. and yeah a lot of the more conservative audience will scream it is because the industry PC. I do not believe that is really the case. although it is definitely become more agenda based and when all you are seeing is a rushed script on a 11th film in a series. people are going to notice something like that more than when it is a good well thought out script on a solid film. regardless of if it is "Diverse" or not. Like I love Japanese films. I loved Godzilla Minus One. I think that the entire cast was Japanese. and I wasn't offended by that, it was just a good movie. Another major issue is budget control, I just found out that Apple+ new film Argylle was budgeted at a reported $200m.. like how for one thing how could anyone in their right mind think that an original spy comedy directed by a man who has not been proven to be a box office draw (the Gentlemen made $115m worldwide, not huge numbers really but it's budget $22m so it made money though. but it had a REASONABLE budget). and then they populate it with all these "Stars" movie goers do not flocked to a movie based on who is in it anymore. this does not work. there is a handful of actors still around today that can elevate a films box office and almost all of them are over 50 now. So what were they thinking when they gave this movie a $200m budget? even if it got glowing reviews and audiences loved it and everything went right for it. it would gross maybe $100m dom, and another $150-$200m internationally. So how does a film get greenlit at a budget of $200m. but the absolutely best realistic scenario is $300m dollars. maybe $400m. but's still only breaking even BEFORE marking comes into play. granted its gonna be on apple+ so maybe it didn't need to make as much as another movie. but they were probably expecting at least $300m from theaters and hoping for what $500m??? this was never gonna make that amount. granted this was an original film and I applied them for greenlighting something original. I haven't seen the film, but like HOW did it get that budget? nothing in the advertising made me think that cost $200m. maybe $100-$125m. mostly cause of the cast. but why spend so much on such an expensive cast if it has been PROVEN that no one will watch it by their names alone? and now it has been criticised once again for having a weak plot and poor script. And lets talk about franchise fatigue. Indiana Jones 5... Yeah people love Indy, Indy 4 not so much, but it still made almost $800m. and maybe if you give them enough time you they will forget and give them enough time to get the script right and people will see it and love it. Now I did see Indy 5. and yeah I didn't hate, in fact liked parts of it. it is probably a better film then "Crystal Skull" but only marginally. and it still feels. tired, old like its got a lot of miles on and well Harrison Ford has got a lot of miles on him and it kind of shows. but I just don't think this generation showed up for it. granted their were some things out of the studios control that made it's budget balloon to an outrageous $300m dollars (again an educated guess based on what I've found online). And yeah maybe it's script wasn't quite as rushed feeling as some recent blockbusters. Yes on paper this feels safer. And it still bombed, because people are growing tired of the lack of originality in Hollywood. Basically I believe that the film industries inability to take risks on original properties, it's over reliance on established or even "Known" IP had hurt them to the point where audience just aren't interested anymore. their budget control or lack their off and they greenlighting films that simply do justify these massive budgets anymore. and quite frankly I am not sure where these "budgets" are going anymore in a lot of these films. their weird forced "diversity" diversity isn't even the right word for, it's lack of creative freedom on ethical, and moral issues aka the way certain characters can be portrayed and its drive to create inoffensive, cookie cutter characters in film and tv. (aka weak writing) I am actually not really even referring to "Race' there are there are couple instances were there is some obviously miscasting that race may a factor in, but the race of the actor playing a character is almost never the issue unless its alike a historical figure or something, (for me anyways) more the way that men and woman are being written in film, or the way a certain race of a character is being written in the film or how they are made to act in a film, and how dated and stereotypically a lot of LGBT characters are being portrayed in films, NOT their inclusive in the film, I am a member of this community and think they should be included but I don't like that they don't really seem interested in diversifying them and making the believable in MAINSTREAM films, this is a much smaller issue in Indy LGBT films. This lack of creatively or lack of creative freedom has greatly damaged creative freedom creating a lot of stale Diverse-less content that feels like it was made by a committee more concerned with making money and not offending certain demographics, than making a good product. All of this over-rides creative freedom, hurts artistic integrity and ironically is now starting to lose them money. So thoughts do you agree disagree? I want to discus it. the fact is that Hollywood as a whole is loosing a lot of money right and what do you think can be done to fix that? I love film and the theater going experiences and am pretty easy on a lot of these movies, even though I think the quality is going down on a lot of them I still can find something to enjoy seeing most of these movies, but I am a hardcore film fanatic, not an average movie goer. and would like for it to have still exist in 10-20 years down the road. Sure there are still smash its like Barbie, Oppenheimer and Top Gun Maverick being released, and we are still recovering from the effects of the pandemic. but I do not believe you can blame the pandemic on this anymore. it hasn't been a major issue for over a year now. and the industry can't survive on the 1 or 2 Barbies and Avatar sequels that are released each year.
  7. I didn't know this counted as Disney, It would have been in like my top 5 if I had known.
  8. Alot of "Oscar contenders" are polished trash now anyways so I think your vote as probably as good as any these days.

  10. I feel I must once again apologize. I knew If I didn't finish before the holidays that it would be difficult to finish this. I am going to try and finish this before the end of the month. if the mods want to move this thread to make way for new countdowns I would totally understand though.(just please leave it unlocked and somewhere where people can find it) I should be able to get back into the countdown this weekend. I will tag everyone once it is done.

  12. I just saw Poor Things. It's a beautiful film to look at, and really funny at parts. but I did find the premise kind of disturbing and more than a little problematic. but one thing is for sure I cannon't see anyone else even coming close to topping Emma Stone in the best actress category. I think it was one of the best performances I have ever seen. Mark Ruffalo will also be hard to top in best supporting actor, he was absolutely hilarious and had prefect comedic timing. but Willem Dafoe was also fantastic.
  13. #32 Y Tu Mamá También (2001) - Directed By Alfonso Cuarón (Mexico) 267 Points | 7 Lists "Life is like the surf, so give yourself away like the sea" Top 10 Placements: 1 About the film: Y tu mamá también (Spanish for And Your Mother Too is a 2001 Mexican road film directed by Alfonso Cuarón and co-written by him and his brother Carlos. It stars Mexican actors Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal and Spanish actress Maribel Verdú. The film tells a coming-of-age story about two teenage boys who take a road trip with a woman in her late twenties. It is set in 1999 against the backdrop of Mexico's political and economic realities, specifically at the end of the uninterrupted seven decades of presidents from the Institutional Revolutionary Party and the rise of the opposition led by Vicente Fox. What I know about the film Y tu mamá también is basically Gael Garcia Barnel ad Diego Luna being horny for two hours and wanting to fucking everything until they finally realize all they wanted was to fuck each other. lol ok there's a bit more to the story than that but that is the gist. I love Alfonso Cuarón he directed one of the best Harry Potter movies ever, and his skill shows through here, it a beautifully shot film with fantastic acting from all three leads, a do wish it would have explored some themes a bit deeper, and the film is a bit slow paced at parts, but overall a very good movie. Notable feats: The film's explicit depiction of sex, nudity, and drug use caused complications in the film's rating. In Mexico, the film earned $2.2 million its first weekend in June 2001, setting a new record for the highest box office opening in Mexican cinema. In 2002, the film was released in English-speaking markets under its Spanish title, with a limited release in the United States. The film received critical acclaim and was nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards and as Best Foreign Language Film at the Golden Globe Awards.
  14. #33 Pain & Glory (2019) - Directed By Pedro Almodóvar (Spain) 255 Points | 6 Lists Top 5 placements: 1 Top 10 placements: 3 "You have to avoid sentimentality. Control the emotion. Don't cry, actors take any opportunity to cry. The better actor isn't the one who cries, it's the one who fights to hold back this tears." About the film: Pain and Glory (Spanish: Dolor y gloria) is a 2019 Spanish drama film written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar. It stars Antonio Banderas, Asier Etxeandia, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Nora Navas, Julieta Serrano, and Penélope Cruz. What I know About the film: I just watched this movie this year. but wow, this is by far imo Pedro Almodóvar's best film, Antonio Banderas is outstanding as a gay play write who suffers from chronic pain. but that is not all what this film is about, there is just some many layers to this film I don't know if you can enjoy it to the full extent in one viewing, I will say this, there is this one scene in the film involving César Vicente, (one of the most beautiful men I have ever seen) that could have easily came off as creepy or offensive. that is just pure and innocent and the best scene about sexual awakening I have ever seen. it's insanely sexy and beautiful at the same time. and brings me back to my childhood and realizing I was attracted to men. seriously the film is good, but it elevates the entire film, this is one of my favorite LGBT films ever, its a must watch, just watch it already. Notable feats: The film was released in Spain on 22 March 2019 to positive reviews.[9] It made its international debut at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, where it competed for the Palme d'Or[10] and won two awards: Banderas for Best Actor and Alberto Iglesias for Best Soundtrack. At the 92nd Academy Awards, Pain and Glory was nominated for Best International Feature Film, and Banderas was nominated for Best Actor. Time magazine chose the film as the best movie of 2019.
  15. #34 Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001) - Directed By John Cameron Mitchell (USA, CA) 244 Points | 7 Lists "I had tried singing once back in Berlin. They threw tomatoes. After the show, I had a nice salad." It's Rocky Horror for a new millennium; a post-punk odyssey of love and longing filled with wit and surprisingly poignant observations on the human condition.-Sara Michelle Fetters, movie freaks.com Top 5 Placements: 1 Top 10 Placements: 2 About the film: Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a 2001 American musical comedy-drama film written for the screen and directed by John Cameron Mitchell. Based on Mitchell's and Stephen Trask's 1998 stage musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch, it accompanies Hedwig Robinson, a gay. East German rock singer. Hedwig subsequently develops a relationship with a younger man, Tommy, becoming his mentor and musical collaborator, only to have Tommy steal her music and become a rock star. The film follows Hedwig and her backing band, the Angry Inch, as they shadow Tommy's tour, while exploring Hedwig's past and her forced sex reassignment surgery. Mitchell reprises his role as Hedwig from the original production. What I know about the film: I sadly have not seen this film. I have heard nothing but great things about it though, seriously I don't know why I haven't seen it yet. it seems like a blast, I'll have to check it out. Notable Feats: Despite largely positive reviews from critics and audiences, the film's limited release only grossed $3.6 million from an estimated $6 million budget. The musical has since developed a devoted cult following. In 2001, the film won the Best Director and Audience Awards at the Sundance Film Festival as well as Best Directorial Debut from the National Board of Review, the Gotham Awards, and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. Mitchell received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and the Premiere magazine Performance of the Year Award.
  16. #35 The Duke of Burgundy (2014) - Directed By Peter Strickland (Hungary, UK) 241 Points | 3 Lists "Would a human toilet be a suitable compromise?" Top 5 placements: 1 Beautiful, sexy, funny and tragic, with its all-women cast and sole focus on female sexuality it is clear evidence that mainstream cinema's aversion to strong women as the centre of a film is hackneyed, dull, and simply false.-Alexandra Heller-Nicholas,The Blue Lenses About the film: The Duke of Burgundy is a 2014 British erotic romance drama film written and directed by Peter Strickland, and starring Sidse Babett Knudsen as Cynthia and Chiara D'Anna as Evelyn. What I know about the film: This movie is honestly, one of the most erotic and sexy films I have ever seen, and I say that as a gay man, heck I wish they would remake it with men, because well I'm gay and I would like to see that. this film has an all-female cast, although it is really mostly just the two leads in this idyllic cottage in the country playing the roles of a dom and sub. it's absolutely gorgeously shot. has a fantastic score, the acting is on point, seriously if you have any interest in queer cinema this is a must watch. Notable feats: The film was screened at various film festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival, the London Film Festival, and the International Film Festival Rotterdam, to positive critical reviews. According to Strickland, the film was influenced by Spanish filmmaker Jesus Franco right down to the casting of Franco alumni Monica Swinn. This was Swinn's first film role in over 30 years (she had previously retired in 1982). the film currently holds a 94% fresh rating on rotten Tomatoes.
  17. #36 Heavenly Creatures (1994) - Directed By Peter Jackson 240 Points | 5 Lists ""The next time I write in this diary, Mother will be dead. How odd... yet how pleasing." Top 5 placements: 1 Top 10 Placements: 2 A beautifully choreographed descent into the realm of the personal and therefore the inexplicable.-Stella Bruzzi, sight and sound. About the film: Heavenly Creatures is a 1994 New Zealand film directed by Peter Jackson, from a screenplay he co-wrote with his partner, Fran Walsh, and starring Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey in their feature film debuts, with supporting roles by Sarah Peirse, Diana Kent, Clive Merrison, and Simon O'Connor. The movie blends elements of movie genres like biography, period, thriller, horror, romance, psychological drama, fantasy and dark comedy. Based on the notorious 1954 Parker–Hulme murder case in Christchurch, the film focuses on the relationship between two teenage girls—Pauline Parker and Juliet Hulme—which culminates in the murder of Parker's mother. The events of the film span the period from their meeting in 1952 to the murder in 1954 What I know about the film: Sadly very little, The Lord of the Rings if my favorite movie Trilogy of all time, but I am not a fan of King Kong and the Hobbit movies were kind of a mess. so I love Peter Jackson, but aside from Lord of the Rings, he has a bit of a mixed reception for me. However the premise of this movie sounds super interesting and I love Kate Winslet. and will definitely be watching it at some point. Notable Feats: The film opened in 1994 at the 51st Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Silver Lion and went on widespread critically acclaimed, becoming of the best-received movies of that year. Reviewers praised most aspects of the production, with particular attention given to the performances by the previously unknown Winslet and Lynskey, as well as for Jackson's directing. The film received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. the film holds a 95% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
  18. Yes, everyone had really good taste. it is probably the most diverse countdown I have ever done. with movies spanning from 9 decades and probably over 20 countries. not to mention genres and mediums ect...
  19. #37 Nimona (2023) - Directed By Troy Quane, Nick Bruno 236 Points | 6 Lists This is the man who cut off your arm. Arm-chopping is not a love language! "Just as Stevenson somehow magicked Netflix into green-lighting She-Ra and the Princesses of Power's unmatched all-ages queer storytelling, he bamboozled them with Nimona too. This baby is gay." -Heather Hogan, Autostraddle. About the film: Nimona is a 2023 American animated science fantasy adventure comedy drama film directed by Nick Bruno and Troy Quane from a screenplay by Robert L. Baird and Lloyd Taylor. It is based on the 2015 graphic novel of the same name by ND Stevenson. Set in a sci-fantasy world influenced by the Middle Ages, the film features the voices of Chloë Grace Moretz as the titular character and Riz Ahmed as her boss and former knight Ballister, with Eugene Lee Yang and Frances Conroy voicing supporting roles. Originally a production of Blue Sky Studios, it was originally set to be directed by Patrick Osborne, with an initial release date of 2020. Following the Walt Disney Company's acquisition of 21st Century Fox, the parent company of Blue Sky, it was delayed multiple times before being canceled due to Blue Sky's closure in April 2021. However, Annapurna Pictures revived the project the following year, with Bruno and Quane announced as directors, DNEG Animation providing animation, and Netflix acquiring worldwide distribution. What I know about the film: I remember hearing about this film along time before it was made and had my interests. I don't think I knew it was going to be a queer centric story though. It kept getting delayed and then finally dropping on Netflix. to near universal acclaim? this movie end up being a massive hit with critics with a 95% rotten tomatoes score, and after watching it I totally agree. this movie is just AWESOME, it's funny, well made, touching and for an animated film, progress. like it has a gay knight falling in love with another gay knight right in the movie. Disney wishes it could be this gay. it is still in my top 5 films of 2023. and my favorite animated film of the year (and I have seen The Boy and the Heron). I hope critics remember it when the Oscars are announced next month. Notable feats: Nimona had its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 14, 2023, was released in select cinemas on June 23, 2023, and made its streaming debut on June 30, 2023, by Netflix. The film received positive reviews from critics, who praised its animation, musical score, characters, themes, tone, humor, writing, and vocal performances (particularly those of Moretz and Ahmed).
  20. #38 Rebecca (1940) - Directed By Alfred Hitchcock 233 Points | 6 Lists You thought you could be Mrs. de Winter, live in her house, walk in her steps, take the things that were hers! But she's too strong for you. You can't fight her - no one ever got the better of her. Never, never. She was beaten in the end, but it wasn't a man, it wasn't a woman. It was the sea! Don't go to Rebecca thinking you will see some sort of horror or freak movie. It is not a Frankenstein, but an intensely dramatic piece with all the suspense and emotional appeal you could cram into one movie.-Katherine Howard, Fort Worth Star-Telegram About the film: Rebecca is a 1940 American romantic psychological thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock. It was Hitchcock's first American project, and his first film under contract with producer David O. Selznick. The screenplay by Robert E. Sherwood and Joan Harrison, and adaptation by Philip MacDonald and Michael Hogan, were based on the 1938 novel of the same name by Daphne du Maurier. The film stars Laurence Olivier as the brooding, aristocratic widower Maxim de Winter and Joan Fontaine as the young woman who becomes his second wife, with Judith Anderson, George Sanders and Gladys Cooper in supporting roles. The film is a gothic tale shot in black-and-white. Maxim de Winter's first wife Rebecca, who died before the events of the film, is never seen. Her reputation and recollections of her, however, are a constant presence in the lives of Maxim, his new wife and the housekeeper, Mrs. Danvers. What I know about the film: I Watch Rebecca last year I think, so it was one of my more recent Hitchcock watches, and it is in my opinion his best film, it's not quick a horror film, like some his other films, but an intense character drama and thriller, the presence of Mrs. winters is a character of its own, it's also one of the most thinly vailed LGBT films of the hays-code era, in fact by todays standard it's almost obvious that Mrs. Danvers is a lesbian. it's not exactly ground-breaking in acceptance, as she is pretty much a villain, but it does add a depth to her character and her motivations that does garners some sympathy for her. Here is a great article about the film and de-coding it's coded LGBT content beware there are spoliers https://www.indiewire.com/features/general/haysd-decoding-the-classics-rebecca-1940-214695/ Notable feats: Rebecca was theatrically released on April 12, 1940, to critical and commercial success. It received eleven nominations at the 13th Academy Awards, more than any other film that year. It won two awards; Best Picture, and Best Cinematography, becoming the only film directed by Hitchcock to win the former award. In 2018, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." Note. Being released in 1940, makes Rebecca the oldest film to appear in the top 100 and the only film released before 1950 to make the top 50.

The film premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival where Guiraudie won the award for Best Director. The film also won the Queer Palm award, and was mentioned on multiple top-ten lists of the best films of 2014. What I know about the film: Stranger by the Lake is another film I have not seen in a long time, but I remember loving it when I saw it, it was probably the most explicit gay film I had seen at the time, and still is probably one of the them, it was raw, sexy and a bit disturbing. over the years I have watched alot of French films and I think I have a thing for them, there is just something about the way they are made that is really beautiful. this is definitely the best gay thriller I have ever seen. and it's not even cheesy. it's realistic and disturbing and also very sexy. Notable Feats: Is notably for adding to the richness of international queer cinema. the film is notable for containing unstimulated gay sex scenes, something that was done with body doubles. with a 94% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes it is one of the highest rating LGBT centered films. Reviewing on Roger Ebert's website, Michał Oleszczyk awards the film four out of four stars, praising Guiraudie's directing and the acting of the cast. He writes: "Stranger by the Lake is the sexiest and most elegant thriller in years..." The Village Voice film critic Melissa Anderson calls the film "Guiraudie's most sexually explicit and narratively taut work," adding that "the writer-director's attention to the anarchic pull of lust, simultaneously celebrated and reproved here, is sharper than ever." In January 2014, the film was nominated for eight César Awards at the 39th César Awards, with Pierre Deladonchamps winning the award for Most Promising Actor.
