  1. Well, Howl is a 20 years old film. I see logical it to not gross as much as a new film.
  2. Article 20 is having the best legs. Today, final CNY period day, will beat the OD figure. It has been increasing day after day (excepting on San Valentine). If the trend continues, it will beat first Pegasus 2 and then Yolo in daily grosses sooner than later.
  3. In local releases I do not care about dollar figures, but local currency figures. It is absurd to compare local grosses with a foreign currency. I only use dollars to compare WW grosses. Relative to films genres, I understand that being comedies, dramas or animated films, presales are not so important. Anyway, it will be fun to follow these runs. This CNY week has become my favorite box office period in the whole year.
  4. Is it just me or presales figures are not too impressive for the moment? I know first Pegasus did 1.7b 5 years ago, but can any of these films surprise?
  5. The Spain top 20 has changed along 2023: 1. Avatar: €79,376,452 2. Ocho Apellidos Vascos: €55,379,948 3. Avatar 2: €51,049,697 4. Titanic: €42,715,714 5. The Impossible: €42,415,847 6. The Lion King (2019): €37,218,267 7. Ocho Apellidos Catalanes: €35,481,514 8. The Return of the King: €33,626,112 9. Barbie: €33,577,629 10. The Force Awakens: €32,806,137 11. The Fellowship of the Ring: €32,098,657 12. Joker: €30,592,030 13. The Two Towers: €30,475,459 14. Avengers - Endgame: €29,212,775 15. Spiderman - No way home: €28,763,286 16. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone: €28,582,899 17. Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest: €28,272,305 18. Shrek 2: €28,207,541 19. Bohemian Rhapsody: €27,600,041 20. Super Mario Bros: €27,438,575 In the all time adjusted list, Barbie ranks #27 and Super Mario Bros is #56.
  6. I watched it yesterday with half full session. Even being a discount day, I did not expect to see so many people in the third week. Btw, the film is fantastic.
  7. How do you live? is expanding to 155 theaters (69 more than OW)
  8. I had just focused on Miyazaki's films, but there are several no Miyazaki's in Ghibli really outstanding. I have not seen all of them yet, but the peak is probably Grave of fireflies, the most devastating film I have ever seen. The first time I saw it I was several days a bit depressed. I would show everyone to see what war means. Beyond this masterpiece, I love Whisper of heart, Only yesterday and Arrietty. I should see again Tales of Earthsea, but the first time I found it not as bad as I had read before. Marnie is really good. Few films dare to deal with childhood depression, even more if we talk about an animated film. Ocean waves is just fine. The only ones I have had problems with are Pom Poko and The cat returns. I will rewatch both of them to see if my opinion changes. I still have to see My neighbors the Yamadas, From up on Poppy Hill, The tale of the princess Kaguya and Earwig and the witch.
  9. You have very good taste Concerning TWR, I have seen it again some weeks ago and it has improved for me. I do not have problems with no having magical elements (which seems to be the main complain for many people). It is a really touching story. Although it is not, it feels like if it were a biopic about himself. I have read that he is obsessed with planes, something that he shows in many films. And I could even think he would have really be a pilot, and he shows it on his films. I like the film a lot. And finally, Ponyo has been mentioned as an underrated film. Absolutely agreed. Ponyo is simply adorable. And again, I agree with you when you say that the first 2/3 of the film are amazing and it drops a bit at the end (when Ponyo and Sosuke begin their journey), but it is still a really charming film.
  10. I can't wait to see this. I discovered Miyazaki after The wind rises. Since then I have only been able to see at theaters Spirited away and Mononoke, but never a new release. He has become my favorite alive director and among my favorite ever. I have just seen some pics of TBH (I reject to see any trailer) and I recognize some of the magical elements that his best films have. Of course, I love to see this kind of reviews. Relative to our Miyazaki's favorites, he has 11 films and the worst one is a A- for me (maybe Kiki). I would rank them as follows: 1. Spirited away 2. Mononoke, Totoro 3. Howl, Nausicaä 4. Castle in the sky, Ponyo, Porco Rosso, Cagliostro 5. The wind rises, Kiki Said this, I like a lot both The wind rises and Kiki as I said previously. I do not see a bad film among its filmography. Who has always done good films? Maybe Billy Wilder? John Ford? Kurosawa? Hitchcock? Maybe I am not objective, but he is among the maybe 5 greatest directors of all time. Always IMHO, of course.
  11. That figure is incredible. We have another Mario Bros
  12. I guess that without any marketing the OW record would never be the target. Even more when DS figure was absurdly high. This is extreme WOM dependence in the leggiest market. In terms of box office analysis this is one of the most exciting possible runs. I do not think this has happened ever. At least not with big names/brands. I love Miyazaki and I just want to enjoy a last masterpiece. But if it happens, in terms of BO, this run can be absurd.
  13. Just to say I am here to follow the (extremely probably) last run of my favorite alive director. I know that OW means nothing in Japan, but it is good to read that initial PS figures seem quite good. Anyway, and although I have never followed a Miyazaki's run so closely, I guess there will be quite hype in Japan, even more when we know nothing about the film.
  14. This exactly came to my mind when I read that amount. It would be at the same level than big HLW blockbusters.
  15. The first one cost $50m. With marketing, maybe $100m. Does this one cost 4 times more? Is now China making films with same budgets than, let's say, Avengers or Avatar? Wow
  16. It is maybe a bit disappointing, but it was targeting 3b yuan 3-4 days ago and today we could even see 4b. It is meh, but not a failure. And we must take into account that conditions have not been the best possible. Maybe without covid Full river red would be setting a new all time record.
  17. I do not see it doing that. Maoyan is projecting 1.289b for Boonie Bears, which is nearly 400m less than A2's gross. You should take into account that after the 7-day holiday period the daily grosses drop a lot for every film released along CNY.
  18. I do not like it too much, but data are data. It would absurd if I deny this brutal success. Just 3 films in this century had reached the 7 million admissions mark: FOTR, Avatar and 8 apellidos vascos. Just very special films. And this is the first sequel doing it (the other 3 are Titanic, E.T. and Doctor Zhivago).
  19. IMO, it is reaching 7 million admissions. Just 6 films have done it until now.
  20. Maoyan projects right now: Full River Red: 4.5b Yuan (about $665m) TWE2: 3.55b (about $515m)
  21. Full River Red already targeting 4.28 billion Yuan according Maoyan. TWE2 keeps 3.34b forecast
  22. Full River Red already over TWE2 in Maoyan's total forecast (about $550m vs $500m)
  23. OD Forecast (Maoyan) The Wandering Earth 2: 410.3m Yuan Full River Red: 358.8m Hidden Blade: 162.4m Five Hundred Miles: 132.3m Boonie Bears: 95.8m Deep Sea: 87.8m
