The Smurfs is down slightly from the first, The Wolverine has already easily passed Origins. Grown Ups 2 will make over twice as much as the first and will probably be Sandlers biggest film. Pacific Rim isn't the kind of film that does big numbers here.

Comparison of giant openers ($800K+):

HP8: 1.206M

FF6: 1.153M

Smurfs: 958K

Smurfs 2: 929K

The Hobbit: 879K (Holiday inflated)

Alice In Wonderland: 876K

Avatar: 858K

The Smurfs 2 drops 3% from the first, still a massive opening.

Multipliers from OW (total gross in brackets):

HP8: 2.78X (3.35M)

FF6: 4.02X (4.63M)

Smurfs: 6.76X (6.47M)

The Hobbit: 2.99X (2.63M)

Alice In Wonderland: 5.77X (5.05M)

Avatar: 15.78X (13.54M)

If The Smurfs 2 can have the same legs as the first, it would make 6.28M.

Anyway Smurfs 2 will fall short of the first one!

Maybe, it's not that clear, Its weekend gross is a little lower, but the holidays later in the run are better than for the first and it hasn't actually lost any ground in the last week.

Why they like such shitty movies so much???

The Smurfs have always been a big thing in Israel, long before the films came out. This is because they used to be shown a lot on TV during the 80's when Israel only had one channel. If similar films came out for the Moomins or 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother, they would also see a big success.

Yeah, its OS success is due to its successful animated series.

I remember it, I was very young but I could watch it in the 90s.
