Israel box office thread: 2022 admission numbers

Recommended Posts

Well, Titanic made $8.5M to Avatar's $13.5M, so 59% more, and  the Shekel was a little stronger by 4%, so with that adjustment, Avatar made 65% more. the question is if Avatar had ticket prices that were 65% higher than Titanic. From what I checked ticket prices were up just 40% in this time, so even if we don't exact numbers, I'm pretty sure Avatar has sold more tickets.

With the holiday over FF7 had a larger drop as expected, but it is still well ahead of anything else up to this point and has also passed the final tally of FF6.

Thought there's no data, I think Titanic is well a head of Avatar in terms of admissions.

what did you need on SK

I meant I wish Israeli box office was reported the same way SK is, were you get admission numbers every day the moment the day is over. For Israel you get nothing unless you or thenumbers post something. Anything you can share about Israeli BO, you are always welcome to share here.

FF7 seems to be winding down now, and probably won't pass the Smurfs, but it's still a great total overall.

Avengers is a sequel going in the opposite direction, it made 1.5M after 4 weekends, when the first was a 2.2M, so down 30%.

Bucking the trend elsewhere, Ted2 has a Crazy high opening with 707K/840K, I believe that is easily the biggest ever for a comedy. That is 2.5-3 times the original film which was a WOM hit that had its second and third weekends higher than its OW, and ended with a multiplier over 12.

JW is on its way to nice blockbuster numbers but nowhere near as much as Domestic, or Furious 7.

Time to compare Inside Out to the other big animations released on the same start of summer weekend:

Wk Toy Story 3 Madagascar 3 Monsters U HTTYD2 Inside Out
opening date 17/06/2010 21/06/2012 20/06/2013 19/06/2014 18/06/2015

4: 341K/2.02M 331K/2.14M 151K/1.29M 145K/1.07M
5: 308K/2.51M 287K/2.61M 120K/1.5M 122K/1.29M

10: 97K/3.96M 129K/4.31M 47K/2.17M 78K/2.22M
TOTAL: 4.42M 4.51M 2.17M 2.47M 1.57M

As you can see, IO is currently ahead of both TS3 and Mad3 but it's unclear if it can stay ahead, but at least looks likely for 4M. Its 3rd weekend drop was relatively large (only -11%, but that is high for an animation on this weekend) but that was against the massive Minions. will probably make between 4-5M

Ever since BOM stopped doing international numbers, there hasn't been anywhere to get numbers for Israeli box office, but The-Numbers have started to report them, but they do it for each film separately and don't aggregate them anywhere, so I put them together. Keep in mind that there are other films showing, these are just the one that are tracked on the site.

Film Weekend Gross Total gross drop weeks in release
Minions 621,522 726,973 - New
Ted 2 597,480 1,765,854 -16% 2
Inside Out 378,474 1,566,449 -11% 3
Jurassic World 249,266 2,134,057 -32% 4
Spy 96,078 1,084,374 -15% 5
San Andreas 68,589 1,419,886 -29% 5
Entourage 16,851 268,455 -42% 4
Poltergeist 7,318 239,732 -23% 5
Pitch Perfect 3,672 429,470 -58% 6
Furious 7 1,781 5,822,222 -30 14

Great numbers for all the top films, except for maybe JW which is doing generally big numbers, but nowhere near its domestic performance. Ted 2 is ridiculous and far ahead of any other comedy, Ted is the currently the biggest comedy on record and Ted 2 is more than doubling that in the same amount of time. Not counting Smurfs, Shrek 4 is the biggest animation, but Minions just out opened that.

The Despicable Me series:

DM: OW: 201K  total: 1.7M

DM2: OW: 330K(334K) total: 3M

Minions: OW: 622K(727K)

So yeah, huge growth.

I'm on holiday so no charts, but at a quick glance Minions is heading towards about 5M, Inside Out 4M, JW 3M. Ted 2 really crashed after its amazing opening, it should still pass the originals 3.3M but not by anywhere near as much as those first couple of weeks suggested.

All the the grosses I could find from August 6-9 from TheNumbers.com.

Film Weekend Gross Total gross drop weeks in release
MI 5 338,815 790,881 NA 2
Minions 276,015 4,120,874 -16% 6
Inside Out 212,017 3,555,464 -11% 8
Vacation 207,695 207,695 New New
Fantastic 4 154,208 154,208 New New

Ted 2 30,653 2,982,827 -47% 7
Paper Towns 27,902 228,440 -50% 3
Jurassic World 13,594 2,743,114 -62% 9

MI 5 seems decent but will need good legs to pass MI 4(2.15M), will probably make 2M or a little under. Minions should do a little better than the 5M I previously thought, and IO might leg it out to 4.5M (which would make it Pixars biggest ever), which is great for both animations. Ted2 completely crashed after the first two weeks and will somehow make less than the first Ted and finish with little more than 3M.

All the the grosses I could find from August 13-16 from TheNumbers.com:

Ted 2 20,269 3,014,314 -34% 8
Jurassic World 11,215 2,762,155 -18% 10

Great drops for everything this week (except maybe Fantastic 4, but even that isn't terrible considering what it is), big improvements for everything compared to last week. MI5 should now pass MI4 after all. Minions is heading, if it continues like this it might actually pass FF7 at 5.82M to become the biggest film of the year. Inside Out is also doing very well, and should pass 5M. Both of these numbers are unprecedented for animated films unless you count the Smurfs.
