4.17 "For Those Who Carry On"

Season 4 - Finale

This will be the final episode of the longest season of Box Office Alliance. Seventeen impressive episodes with a wonderful cast and some surprise twists. Yet again, I leave you on a high note: you have accomplished a lot this season, especially to those who carry on to the finale. So far, Jim Shorts and CEDAR alone venture into this final episode of the season. This marks CEDAR's second time in the finale of a season: in his first time (Season 2), he won. Jim Shorts is only a rookie this season, but he is a Legend now like CEDAR, so the match isn't as clear-cut for CEDAR as it would appear. Especially as another may be added to the mix. Numbers has the potential to join in this fight, but if he does, he recognizes that his ally Jim will be his enemy here, but that the bigger enemy for the duo will remain CEDAR.

The iron bell has finally stopped tolling. The final gong sounds, and now, here is the finale.

DEADLINE: Friday, August 9 at 8:00 P.M. Eastern (7:00 P.M. Central)

5. Predict The Spectacular Now's weekend percent change (specify + or -) from last weekend

6. Predict This is the End's percent drop (this weekend) as a percent of its average weekend percent drop (find what its average weekend percent drop (e.g. if its 35%) and then calculate its percent drop this weekend as a percent of that (e.g. if its average is 35% and it drops 35% then its 100% of that)

7. Predict the difference in weekend grosses for Red 2 and The Heat

8. Predict the difference in Fruitvale Station's weekend gross this weekend from last weekend (gross difference, not percent difference)

9. Predict Blue Jasmine's weekend gross

10. Predict the difference in weekend grosses between whatever movie is in 3rd place and whatever movie is in 4th place.

Nulled my vote so I could see the results and boy was there a surprise waiting for me! Two people voted for me as the best legend? What happened to everyone rooting against me? *changes to British accent* They're heroes died glorious deaths bestowed upon them by me and now you've come begging at my feet for forgiveness? Well nay! I am not so easily swayed and vengence SHALL BE MINE!!!

Season 4 In Review

It has been the season of the Legends.

The fourth consecutive season of Box Office Alliance here comes to its long-awaited conclusion. After seventeen grueling episodes, we finally arrive at the finale of one of the most diverse seasons in Box Office Alliance history. This season has proved very trying for some, and the new alliances and enemies it forged will have a lasting impact on future seasons of the hit box-office predicting game show.

Season 4 brought us many new, interesting, and rather complex characters. There was a noticeable shift in the main cast of the season. Firstly, XenoZodiac was absent from the premiere episode and would not show up for the remainder of the season. Secondly, the majority of Seasons 1-3 main cast (including CEDAR, Acsc, and Goffe) were not present for the first two or more episodes of the season and only trinkled in on various other episodes throughout the season. And thirdly, the premiere episode saw the quick elimination of one of Box Office Alliance's biggest stars: Totem. Totem finished in last place this season (well, alongside another long-time veteran Tawasal). Totem, a Legend himself, was the first victim of the season...and his elimination was truly unexpected, at least that early in the game.

But despite the change in the main cast, we had some new additions to fill the void that Xeno, Totem, and even CEDAR and Acsc left. First and foremost, 4815162342 (a.k.a. Numbers) stepped into the scene, quickly escalating to the forefront as the most prominent and powerful of the new players this season. Yet Numbers had previously appeared in the Season 3 semi-final, where he confronted the Final Five Champions in a battle to reach the Finale. Numbers' skill this season has far out mastered his skill in that episode, and indeed, Numbers has proven to be quite a legend himself. And yet another Legend was borne of this season. Jim Shorts, originally coming as "the messenger"...for he would summon the unknown Legends out of their hiding (and in doing so, he evicted DoctorWho from the safe zone)...emerged as an early suitor for Numbers, one who could almost rival his skill, at times best it, and who proved to be a challenging player himself.

The season also saw the return of some early season veterans who had vanished after Season 1. EmpireStrikesBack took center stage when he eliminated Totem in a Challenge and acquired Totem's Legend Chip. Although Empire's run was brief, it was significant. And Spaghetti's return, after being one of the first players eliminated in Season 1, was a marvelous surprise for all. Spaghetti's run this season was truly impressive, helping to carry his partner Chasmmi to the Top Ten. Although Chasmmi, a new player himself, outlasted all of his own partners, Spaghetti's run was nearly equally impressive (Chasmmi gets some edge for having been a rookie altogether!).

The season may have started off on a slightly confusing note, what with the unexplained introduction of the "Legend Card"...something that would develop over the course of the season. Totem, Baumer, and Riczhang were each identified as Legends, alongside five other unidentified Legends, who emerged over the course of the first five episodes. They were, in order of chronological appearance: DoctorWho, CEDAR, Acsc1312, Alfred, and Goffe. Each Legend possessed his own special power chip, something that he could use to benefit himself and his teammates...or to harm other players. The power chips varied in strength according to the assumed strength of the Legend who held it. The chips could be taken via the Legend Challenges, in which the Legends competed against each other. And in one such instance, a Legend chip was taken...as Doc stole Alfred's power chip.

When all the power chips were in play, havoc broke loose. What followed were some of the biggest and most exciting episodes of Box Office Alliance history. The Legends were on the forefront of the battlefield, targeting each other and some unexpected new foes: Numbers and JIm Shorts. The struggle was real. In a moment, Acsc had been eliminated, Numbers' points were wiped clean, DoctorWho had vanished, and CEDAR was driven to see revenge was served. An explosion of competitiveness erupted, particularly between Jim Shorts and CEDAR, and the Top Ten games began with the most fruitful ounce of competition that can be inspired in a season of Box Office Alliance.

The competitiveness has endured here until the very end of it all, and now, once more, it is CEDAR versus Jim Shorts in this final Challenge...this finale! And yet, for the first time, we have a finale with not two but THREE finalists. All three are highly skilled. CEDAR has won before. Jim is a trooper. And Numbers is quite possibly the strongest player of the season. So it can go any way, and it will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

Stay tuned for more in my next post.

Season 4 Awards Ceremony

Every season, we award players on the merit of skill, teamwork, sportsmanship, competitiveness, strategy, and other values related to their performance that season. The seasonal Awards Ceremony distinguishes the most prestigious players, and this season, we have some new awards to recognize both the changes in players and in the format of the season. These awards are designed to bestow some display of gratitude and appreciation toward the effort of the players awarded them and, in some cases, to distinguish the most valuable players, the ones who have had the biggest impact on the game. The Awards Ceremony will kick off the Season 4 Finale, and will end with the recognition of the Player of the Season Award (to be revealed after the winner of the season is announced). This is the most prestigious award I can bestow upon you and to win it, you must completely embody everything the season and the game stands for. The nominees for Player of the Season have not all been revealed yet, so I will go ahead and disclose those nominees to you now.

Player of the Season Nominees

4815162342 (NUMBERS)

JIM SHORTS

CEDAR

GOFFE

CHASMMI

One of those five players will be crowned with the most prestigious award. Former Player of the Season winners include: CEDAR (Season 1), Totem (Season 2), and Baumer (Season 3). Who will join them this season?

And now...the commencement of the Awards Ceremony for Season 4.

The Strategy Award

This award recognizes the player that used the best strategy in trying to overcome some obstacle, whether it be a Challenge or a means to remove other players from the competition. The nominees are:

-CEDAR

-DoctorWho

-Goffe

-Jim Shorts

-Riczhang

And the winner is...

JIM SHORTS (Jim showed that taking out the top dogs really helps your chances...targeting them when they're down helped him cause the eliminations of 4 Legends this season)

The Coulda-Woulda-Shoulda Award

This award singles out the individual who should have made the Top Ten or higher and would have had circumstances favored him. The nominees are:

-24Lost

-Baumer

-ChD

-Goffe

-Totem

This is the greatest line-up ever for this award. All of these deserved to make it there, and 4 of them have made it into the Top Ten at least once! The winner is...

GOFFE! (Because for crying out loud, he was a Legend of tremendous skill and strength and he just barely got knocked out before the commencement of the Top Ten games)

The Most Competitive Player Award

This award recognizes the player who was most competitive in the Challenges, the weekend games, or any other confrontation with the other players. This season saw a rebirth and vigor in the competitiveness of its players, so this is a great award to hold. The nominees are:

-Acsc1312

-CEDAR

-DoctorWho

-Jim Shorts

-Riczhang

And the winner is!!!

CEDAR (This was close between CEDAR and Jim, but CEDAR gets a slight edge. Probably because he was bigger and badder at it than Jim...although knocking out 4 Legends, that's quite a feat!)

The Newcomer Award

This award recognizes the new player that I, the Host, completely underestimated. This player is a new player who I did not expect to make it as far as he did, or to show as much skill as he did. The nominees are:

-24Lost

-Chasmmi

-Jay Salahi

The winner is...

JAY SALAHI! (Jay came out of left field after his first Challenge. We thought he was done for, but he surprised us all when he eliminated JohnnY. Definitely proved to be a strong player, and making it to the Top Ten...that's something to brag about.)

The Warrior Award

This award recognizes the player who was the true fighter, one who put up with everything thrown at him and persevered. The nominees are:

-4815162342

-Acsc1312

-Alfred

-Chasmmi

-Jay Salahi

And the winner is...

4815162342 (Because despite being separated from his partners, being tossed about from team to team like a wash clothe, and losing all his points (not to mention, nearly his life), Numbers wound up in the finale against all odds thrown at him. And he has a great chance of winning now.)

Continued next!

The Behavior Award

This award goes out to the player who, despite all the competitiveness and occasional nastiness of the season, kept his cool and never let emotions get in the way. The nominees are:

-4815162342

-Chasmmi

-ChD

-Jay Salahi

-Spaghetti

And the winner is..

SPAGHETTI (Spaghetti was always on his cool. He's a well rounded individual, and he doesn't let haters get in the way)

The Best Team Award

This award recognizes the team that was "better than the rest", the one who was strongest at working together and perhaps even at working apart. The nominees:

-"The Equation Sensation" (4815162342, Goffe, and Jim Shorts)

-"The Gold Seekers" (ChD and Jay Salahi)

-"The Shadowkillers" (Acsc1312, CEDAR, and Riczhang)

And the winner is...

"The Equation Sensation" (a truly dynamic yet fully compatible team who went through all the odds to get back together)

The Individual Spirit Award

This award recognizes the player with the most enthusiasm, drivenness, and zest this season. The nominees:

-Acsc1312

-CEDAR

-Chasmmi

-ChD

-Jim Shorts

And the winner is...

CHD! (Because even though he was eliminated prior to the Top Ten, he showed up every episode and always had a buttload to say...sometimes annoyingly so (jk!). And he kept motivating his partner even after he was gone)

The Team Spirit Award

Same as the individual, this one recognzies the team that was most spirited together, worked hard together, etc. The nominees:

-"The Earth Shakers" (24Lost, DoctorWho, and SchumacherFTW)

-"The Equation Sensation" (4815162342, Goffe, and Jim Shorts)

-"The Gold Seekers" (ChD and Jay Salahi)

And the winner is...

THE GOLD SEEKERS!

The Most Liked Player Award

This award recognizes the player who no one seemed to have any beef against. He was, for the most part, well liked by all. The nominees are:

-Chasmmi

-ChD

-Jay Salahi

-JohnnY

-SchumacherFTW

The winner is...

CHASMMI! (Mimi haha)

The Greatest Rivalry Award

Almost every player this season had at least one major rival. Let's see which is the best match up!

-Acsc1312 and DoctorWho

-Acsc1312 and Jim Shorts

-Alfred and DoctorWho

-CEDAR and DoctorWho

-CEDAR and Jim Shorts

And the winning pair is...

CEDAR AND JIM SHORTS (Because even though Jim already got his ass beat once by CEDAR, he still keeps antagonizing the Legend)

The Most Bizarre Alliance Award

Or, in other words, the most unexpected alliance to form between players this season (although, some "alliances" were only loosely connected). The nominees:

-4815162342, CEDAR, and Riczhang ("The Shadowkillers")

-Acsc1312 and DoctorWho ("The Gold Lords")

-Acsc1312 and Jay Salahi ("The Gold Seekers")

-Baumer and Riczhang ("The Legends")

The winning pair (or group) is...

ACSC1312 AND DOCTORWHO ("The Gold Lords") (Because let's face it: being matched up with the person who eliminated you is kinda awkward.)

The Underdog Award

The little engine that could. This award recognizes the player who just kept chugging along, the "underdog" of the season. The nominees are:

-Chasmmi

-ChD

-EmpireStrikesBack

-Jay Salahi

-Schumacher FTW

The winner is...

CHASMMI (No doubt. He did make it to the semi-final after all. In many ways, he was this season's Baumer)

The Top Dog Award

The player who seemed to be on his A-Game all season long: the top dog if you will. The nominees are:

-4815162342

-Acsc1312

-DoctorWho

-CEDAR

-Jim Shorts

And the winner is:

CEDAR (Because he just never relented)

Best Episode Award

For the episode that stands out as the best of the season. And there were a lot this season. The nominees:

-4.8 "Legendary"

-4.9 "LegendFall"

-4.11 "To Heaven and Beyond"

-4.14 "As We Fade Into The Night"

-4.15 "The Equation is Complete"

The winner is...

4.8 "LEGENDARY" (Because here is where the season kicked into full gear with the introduction of the Legends!)

Best Legend Power Chip Award

The Legends all had some pretty crafty Power Chips. But which one was coolest of all? Let's see!

-Acsc1312's Thief Chip

-Alfred's Sacrifice Chip

-Baumer's Resurrection Chip

-CEDAR's Clean Slate Chip

-DoctorWho's Team Swap Chip

-Goffe's Shield Chip

-Jim Short's Secret Chip*

-Riczhang's Elimination Chip

-Totem's Team Creation Chip

The best chip was...

GOFFE'S POWER SHIELD CHIP (Because it saved a lot of time for him, Jim, and partially Numbers...and it gave Goffe 90+ points before his elimination)

The Challenge Award

This award is for the player who performed best in the Challenges, who won more often than he lost. The nominees are:

-CEDAR

-Chasmmi

-DoctorWho

-Jay Salahi

-Jim Shorts

The winner...

DOCTORWHO! (Because first beating Acsc, and then winning the Legend Challenge...that's particularly impressive.)

The Skill Award

For the player with the best skill in predicting. This season's nominees are:

-4815162342

-CEDAR

-Chasmmi

-Goffe

-Jim Shorts

And the winner is...

4815162342 (Congratulations man!)

And the almost last award of the ceremony...

The Legend Award

In a season of Legends, one Legend must take the cake as the ultimate Legend. The nominees are:

-Acsc1312

-Alfred

-Baumer

-CEDAR

-DoctorWho

-Goffe

-Jim Shorts

-Riczhang

-Totem

And the winner, the Ultimate Legend, is...

CEDAR. There can really be no other choice.

*Dun dun dun dun.

4.17 "For Those Who Carry On" (Preamble)

Totem - slain by EmpireStrikesBack. His body lies in a glass tube, waiting to be re-energized, should anyone find him and resurrect him.  Baumer - withdrawn. He floats in a similar tube, not quite asleep like Totem, but not fully awake and ready to re-emerge. But there, floating, poised, potential.

Jim Shorts walks the long corridor. Glass tubes line its walls, objects floating in them. As he takes more steps, the glass tubes closing in on him, the objects manifest into human beings: the remnants of the Legends who had been slain this season. Jim takes them all in, but knows nothing can be done to save them, or to unleash their fury once more. Beneath each tube, a dim glow keeps the bodies alight, a glow cast by their chips, which mostly lie in ruins beneath them.

Acsc1312 - fragmented. Twisted by the Super Legend. His tube runs murkier than most of the others. Destroyed by DoctorWho, then destroyer of DoctorWho, and ultimately destroyed by Jim Shorts himself. The ghosts haunting. There! Alfred - sent to his doom by Jim Shorts. His tube manifests a brown haze, a gurgling, consuming darkness.

A pulse.

Pulsating. Thumping. Bleating.

Jim steps away, then down the corridor. It winds toward its end, and a light starts to consume him.

An empty tube. Jim knows who to put there. He has put DoctorWho in the tube beside it, and further down lies one other tube. But this one is unoccupied, the only unoccupied tube here. One Legend must fill this tube with his corpse. Jim knows it, desires it. But he cannot find him. He has vanished after the assault, and Jim searches. Searches, wanting, knowing, seeking, hoping, crushing. Crush. Crush!

...one other tube. A body floating inside. Goffe. Jim presses his hand to the tube. The only Legend to ever ally himself to Jim Shorts. A friend, a loyal protector, guardian, and ally. The water in this tube is clearer than any other, almost transparent. Jim can almost touch the floating Goffe, see his Legend Chip...stolen by Acsc1312. Goffe did not deserve his fate. Jim would see that he would be resurrected. It WOULD happen.

But it wasn't time. There will be a day, a time in the future, when Jim Shorts can return here to save Goffe, or what's left of him, before he becomes like the muddied Legends in the other tubes. They would all be bent on revenge and desire. Goffe - Jim assumes he was different, and surely and truly...he was. Goffe was humble, not mad like CEDAR, driven like Alfred, scorned like Acsc. Goffe was the humblest, most collected of all. The day would come.

Today, though, Jim Shorts approached the end of the corridor, and the light engulfs him. He feels with his hands and...something solid. Strong, the strength overpowering. Overwhelming his senses, the solid object seems to embody him. Jim can see, can see so clearly now, so very clear. Everything comes into focus and there...is a new vigor to him. Something strange, yet uplifting. Something alien, yet natural.

A Legend has been born. And it is time for the Legend to take on CEDAR.
