Holy shit. Tubelight flopped on Eid Monday. This is really bad for the industry which was counting on the movie for a comeback for Bollywood. Bahubali 2, for all its success, was not a Bollywood movie. This is unbelievable and it might end up below Raees if this keeps up which would not be something anyone expected seeing it was a solo Eid release

The distributors will loose heavily but that is not much of an issue as when you pay such high prices the risk is always there and on top the producers profits are more than double the distributors losses thanks to a record digital price. Nothing is wrong in terms of economics (budget) of the film and it is not a financial disaster but for the industry not to have a 150 crore nett grosser in the first half of the year when Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan. Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan have all had releases is a shocker. A dubbed Telugu film will do more in Hindi than the combined business of the four films featuring these big stars and that shows the sad state of affairs in the Hindi film industry. It pretty much tells the story of 2017 till date which is one film proves that huge business is there and the audience wants to come but we are unable to deliver.

Spider-man Homecoming had the 3rd best opening of a hollywood film in India after Fast 8 and XXX 3. It's opening was lower than both Amazing Spiderman and Amazing Spiderman 2 which is not good as this had Tony Stark and MCU connection.

 

I am disappointed. Was expecting an opening on par with Fast 8 or bigger. Seems like the fast and furious franchise is officially the most popular one in India. 

 

Nothing will match The Jungle Book gross until maybe The Jungle Book 2 and/or Avatar 2.

SRK's jab harry met saijal is dropping by 95% in second w/e. I have not seen such a big crash in bollywood till now.

Akki's toilet has increased more than 30% on saturday and will increase again on sunday for a 50cr. W/e. Great result. Could beat raees to become highest bollywood grosser of 2017.

Dunkrik did 24cr. This proves thr power of nolan brand in india as film was released in english only

Jab Harry Met Sejal's day-to-day holds are amazingly horrendous. This is probably the first time a film has dropped more than 50% from Monday to Tuesday, and don't even get me started on the Friday-to-Friday drop. At this rate it won't even pass Dear Zindagi or have a 1.5x multiplier. What a horrible run (and I thought Tubelight's run was godawful!).

 

Toilet is doing very well. Passing Rustom is possible.

Thor made the same amount of money as Spidey did in the first week. Thats astounding. Spiderman is by and far the most popular SH in India and for freaking Thor to match Spideys BO gross is amazing

Unlike Bajiro which had Dilwale as direct competition this has none for 2 weeks until Fukrey Returns and TZH later. I hope this does well.

Absolutely. That's quite a feat, the reception was very good for thor, still holding well despite the local releases.

Thor has crossed the $10m mark in India after its second weekend. For comparision DS did half that and Thor 2 did about 3.9

 

it's also very close to BvS (10.7) and may overtake it which is crazy. SMH did 11.4 total.

No it did not. Was not even in the Top 3. BvS, CW and AoU atleast are ahead of it. 

 

And its crazy that a Thor movie will come close to the big hitters like Batman, Superman and Spiderman in India. Generally only the big team up movies (like avengers, BvS) and spidey movies do double digits in India. Thor is one of the only outside of these to hit double digits, which anyway you wanna spin it, is amazing. 

 

It has already increased over the last Thor movie by 150% in dollar terms despite weaker exchange rates. I doubt any SH sequel had that kinda jump

AoU has that kind of jump, same for iron man 3. Thor is putting impressive numbers which is good cos other than fate it has been disappointing year for hollywood in india.

AoU had only about 32% bump from Avengers. 

 

But you are right. Thor 3 had an amazing bump from Thor 2 but it is nothing compared to the bump MCU movies had post avengers.

CA3 increased by 185% over CA2

Thor 2 increased by 290% over Thor 2

IM3 increased by 900% over IM2

CA2 increased by 3400% over CA1!!!!!

 

Avengers was the best thing to happen to MCU movies in India

To be fair, movie theatres were on a strike when CA1 was released, hence the gigantic jump.

 

Still, I agree. Avengers really did elevate the MCU brand by a lot.

SMH fig is a big disappointment. SM3 grossed 16M in 2007 offcourse the dollar value was less but for established property like Spidey not a nice one!
