Jason
Not sure if this is the right thread for this - but does anyone have any insights on inconsistencies in reported international grosses? Domestic gross is reported as the same number pretty much anywhere you look, but international grosses seem to be different. I presumed differences for individual countries had something to do with currency conversions, but I've noticed even the the international total differs on boxofficemojo.com vs. the-numbers.com (for example). cannastop
The Brexit has fucked up the exchange rates for not only the Pound, but the Euro as well. There might be a bit fewer $1 billion movies in the future.
dudalb
IDR seems to be not performing much better in international markets then it is in the US.I understand is is underperforming badly in China, ironic since Fox made a definent appell to Chinese audiences in the film. BUt Now You See It 2,which did mediocre box office in the most markets, is a huge hit in China.Go figure.

Fullbuster
I posted this on the Brazil thread, I decided to share it here because I'm sure people could be interested GLOBAL BOX OFFICE : TOP 12 INTERNATIONAL MARKETS 2014 vs 2015 2014 1. China : $4.8B 2. Japan : $2.0B 3. France : $1.8B 4. UK : $1.7B 5. India : 1.7B 6. South Korea : $1.6B 7. Germany : $1.3B 8. Russia : $1.2B 9. Australia : $1.0B 10. Mexico : 0.9B 11. Brazil : $0.8B 12. Italy : $0.8B 2015 1. China : $6.8B 2. United Kingdom : $1.9B 3. Japan : $1.8B 4. India : $1.6B 5. South Korea : 1.5B 6. France : $1.4B 7. Germany : $1.3B 8. Australia : $0.9B 9. Mexico : $0.9B 10. Russia : 0.8B 11. Italy : $0.8B 12. Brazil : $0.7B So, what do we learn? (+other datas below) : -China's well ahead and widens the gap with the rest of the pack, adding the equivalent of Japan in one year! -Russia really suffered, losing a third of its value in just one year, the exchange rates and an economic crisis have hit this market hard! From a pretty big market able to compete with Germany and France it went back to being a modest market... -Other victims of exchange rates and economic crisis : Brazil, that underwent a slight decline and going back behind Italy. It resisted thanks to an impressive growth in local currency : +17% -Unlike Russia and Brazil, Mexico didn't decrease : it stagnated, a strong growth in local currency offset the ER. -Overall stagnation of the main European players these last few years : it's likely to stay that way given they're aging, have a slow GDP growth and a very slow population growth. -Venezuela was 16th in 2014 and disappeared from the top 20 in 2015. The collapse of its local currency is the explanation and given the horrible economic crisis there it won't be back anytime soon, a shame. -Indonesia is the emerging player to watch, passing from 20th to 16th in one year. It's likely to be the new big player of the 2020s with India.
