The Amazing Spider-Man 2 arrives this Thursday!!

 

The previous films were very successful. Exchange rate and admission prices played an important game making TASM champion in U$S but non of them sold as many tickets as the first one back in 2002:

Last weekend TASM2 opened in the neighbor market, Uruguay, and it almost doubled TASM. That's a good sing! Let's see what happens this weekend in Argentina 

 

I'm pretty optimistic about TASM2 in Latin America, let's hope the exchange rates won't drag it.

Damn, TASM2 actually is decreasing in several (not big but still) markets, it pretty much seems like a given that it's better than TASM and yet. Superhero fatigue with Cap America a couple of weeks before, no other explanation.

Again, Disney/Marvel is a marketing/strategist genius. They see the glut of mediocre superheroe movies like TASm2 & XDOFP canceling each other, they stay upfront. Clever, make me want to support their cause. Let Sony & Fox slaughter each other needlessly. Fox has very good tent poles : DRAGON @ & APES 2. Sony on the other hand has the incredibly unfunny SEX TAPE and uh, that's it for 2014. Denzel in EQUALIZER & JUMP ST will not do big tent-pole numbers. Sony only has one sure thing: the Bond franchise. Sandler is not big outside of US, and Will Smith is taking a loooong vacation.

WoM isn't good btw, We can only judge that it is fatigue if X-Men also fails... 

This were I base less good WoM on:

 

Imdb: 7.2 TASM1 300.000 VOTES

Imdb  7.7 TASM2 21.000 VOTES (so only fan-boys have voted yet, It's not the first time i track movies on Imdb and i know it will fall atleast to 7 if not more...)

 

Metacritic 

 

TASM1: 66%

TASM2: 58% (It might get it bit better to 60%, but it could also drop to 56%)

 

Rotten

 

This is how much positief replys there are per 10 critics (+50% is positif btw)

TASM1: 7.3

TASM2: 7.5 (Early, no DOM release yet so in DOM they got some spidy fatigue so it could dorp to 7 but I think it will hold on 7.2)

 

This is the average rating of the critics:

 

TASM1 6.7/10

TASM2 6.2/10 (Could still drop with USA release )

 

So to be honest nothing indecates that it's a better movie than the first one.

All the critics from the main argentinean newspapers gave it a 6 or a 7/10, which is a little bit lower than TASM

TASM2 is doing the same Noah did, 68k admissions in 2 days. Cap2 sold 78k during its first 2 days. TASM2 should improve on Saturday and Sunday to sell at least 200k tickets during its OW. The good news for Spidey is that May doesn't have important movies opening until the 22nd and next weekend is a sort of 4 days weekend (Labor day on Thursday)

With 75k admissions on Saturday TASM2 is heading to an OW on par with Noah or 300:RoaE. Cume: 143102 admissions, around $0.8-0.9m. Even with a Sunday increase, that I don't think will happen, it will be impossible for it to reach TASM OW ($2.2m, 293002 admissions)

Well it did good in Mexico and Uruguay last weekend... But it's falling hard in Uruguay this weekend... I don't know anything about this weekend in Mexico yet. 

 

I was expecting at least 1m admissions for TASM2 in Argentina but now I think it won't reach 700k admissions after this not so amazing opening. It's sad because all the movies were doing so well there this year.

The first Rio sold 1.65m admissions. Rio 2 would need a lot of help from this weekend holidays to get near that number, but you never know. Everything is possible...
