Argentina Box Office - Minions: first movie ever to do $35m+!!!

Recommended Posts

its good but it had holiday boost. Next weekend it will drop big for sure. So in Argentina its finishing below F7 for sure.

AoU still has 2 weekends with soft drops until Tomorrowland on the 21st and Saint Andreas on the 28th. There's no way it will pass FF7. Right now I am thinking AoU should do around $5m-$7m less than Fast 7. The only movie that has a small chance to beat Vin Diesel & Co is The Minions if it does a very good business during the winter holidays.

Weekend Top 5:

1- The Avengers: Age of Ultron, 376035 admissions, -22%. Cume: 1029539 admissions, $8.6m

2- Fast & Furious 7, 123348 adm, -35%. Cume: 3107376 adm, $24.4m

3- Run All Night, 59206 adm, new, around $0.5m

4- Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, 45079 adm, new, around $0.3m

5- Home, 31947 adm, +9%. Cume: 396186 adm, $2.6m

AoU passed 1m admissions on Sunday. It needed 11 days (FF7 did it in only 4 days and The Avengers in 9). The Superheroes still have steam to enter the All Time Top 5 (Gross in $) by the end of their battle.

Fast 7 passed 3m admissions on Thursday (in 28 days) but this time they were not the fastest, Manny and Diego during their 4th adventure did that in only 23 days. Last weekend Toretto and his colleagues passed Monsters University to become the 3rd movie at the Top Grossers of All Time List

Home was the only movie in the Top Ten that increased compared the last weekend (almost 10%) and Cinderella, dropping only 9%, passed The Hobbit: BotFA (in admissions, in $ Ella earned $1m less than the last crusade of Bilbo), to become the number 5 movie for 2015 so far. It should pass Penguins next weekend.

The weekend started horrible with all the movies falling around 80% on Thursday because there was a very important football match, River-Boca for the Libertadores Cup (something like Real Madrid-Barcelona for the South American version of the Champions League ;) ), but Friday and Sunday were very good, so holds are not bad in the end.

Age of Ultron passed Fifty Shades and it is now the second movie of the year, but it is around 20% behind The Avengers in admissions at this time of its run (in gross they are almost on par because tickets are more expensive and the exchange rate is better now). Fast 7 reached $25m (the third movie in history to do so!!!)

Top 5 Weekend

1- The Avengers: Age of Ultron, 128908 admissions, -43%. Cume: 1563997 admissions, $12.3m

2- Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), 95565 admissions, new, around $0.8m

3- Sin Hijos (local movie), 87050 adm, new, around $0.6m

4- Fast & Furious 7, 41095 adm, -45%. Cume: 3279355 adm, $25.6m

5- Run All Night, 17467adm, -49%. Cume: 133722 adm

The Avengers 2 won again, its fourth weekend on top, but it still needs a little bit more than 1m admissions to reach The Avengers level. Of course it won't happen, I am starting to doubt that it will even reach 2m admissions. It should end at around $15m. Tickets are so high this year that it will reach the All Time Top Ten with that gross (now it stands at the 15th place)

Mad Max did ok but I don't think it will do more than $2m bye the end of its run.

Fast & Furious 7 passed Toy Story 3 in admissions entering the All Time Top 5.

Next weekend should be good because Monday, 25th is a holiday. Tomorrowland opens on Thursday trying to score on the long weekend.

Poltergeist opened on Top yesterday doing 30% better than Tomorrowland. The fantasy film bowed in third behind Age of Ultron. Marvel Superheroes fell 24% compared to last Thursday. Monday is a holiday but this weekend doesn't look very promising.

Tomorrowland took the lead after a great jump from its slow start on Thursday (100% on Friday and 250% on Saturday). Estimates: around $0.7m-$0.8m for the weekend, close to $1m for Tomorrowland, Poltergeist and Age of Ultron if we include holiday Monday. It will be a good weekend after all ;)

Top Six Long Weekend:

1- Tomorrowland, 134833 admissions, new, around $0.95m-$1m

2- Avengers 2: Age of Ultron, 123250 adm, -12%. Cume: 1725870 adm, $13.5m

3- Poltergeist, 119129 adm, new, around $1m-$1.05m

4- Sin Hijos (local movie), 113909 adm, +19%. Cume: 228929 adm

5- Mad Max, 72316 adm, -31%. Cume: 204995 adm, around $1.4m

6- Fast & Furious 7, 37976 adm, -16%. Cume: 3330322 adm, $26m

Tomorrowland sold more tickets than any other movie during the long weekend, doing around $1m, now it's up to its WoM to see if it reaches $3m by the end of its run. But Poltergeist won in gross thanks to the 3D shows. AoU held very well, it should pass Iron Man 3 gross today or tomorrow. Local movie Sin Hijos was up 19% thanks to its very good WoM, it should pass $2.5m by the end of its run. Mad Max fell 31% and it will suffer to reach $2m. Fast 7 shoud pass Titanic next weekend to become the number 2 movie at the All Time Movies by Gross list.

San Andreas opens on Thursday. Let's see how it does. The Day After Tomorrow is the most successful film about natural disasters in this market with 1.6m admissions.

San Andreas behaved like a family movie. It started pretty low on Thursday but it did great on Saturday, also Sunday was very good (it more than doubled what it did on Friday). WoM is king of bad though so I can't predict where is it going to end (but $5m+ looks like a lock right now)

San Andreas is beating the local movie thanks to a great Saturday. It's falling just 6%. It will have another weekend over 200k admissions and its cumulative will be over $4m today!!! ;)

San Andreas is showing amazing legs. It was flat from last week and it has reached $5m. Let's see how it does this weekend with the arrival of the dinosaurs.

Not good opening weeks for Spy (42349 admissions) and Chappie (23684 admissions). Spy has good reviews (8.3/10) and Chappie not so good (7.4/10) but both were better received than local movie Abzurdah (5.6/10), best OW for a local movie in 2015.

Today Jurassic World opens in more than 300 screens.
