Jem and the Holograms | 10/23/2015

Still, it hasn't helped its reputation among Jem fans that Universal is willing to put out, as Jerrica Benton said about the Misfits in the first cartoon episode, "this trash."

Lol, Jerrica wished she were this talented and groundbreaking for an 80's cartoon character:

The Misfits are so shizzy they just ditched this joke of a movie altogether.

Then why did Universal move around the Steve Jobs release in the first place then? It was supposed to open wide this weekend, on October 9, but instead is opening wide on October 23, pushing Jem into lower-tier status at Universal. I will say they wanted to avoid press about Jem's box office total if that was the only movie they were opening wide on the 23, and instead have the box office reports focus on Steve Jobs' box office performance when it goes wide.

building on early word of mouth starting with it's limited release first this past weekend and it was amazing Edited by Red-Ops 9

Universal is surprisingly continuing to air movie commercials on prime time television.  Now, you would think they would naturally air on Comcast owned NBC's prime time lineup, right?  No, because two Jem movie commercials have aired during Disney owned shows Once Upon a Time and The Muppets on ABC.  I would have thought Universal would have been trying to save TV ad money by this point, not air their commercials on a rival network that is not going to charge them as cheaply as airing it on their own network would have done.  Is Universal attempting a last-ditch effort at television promotion for this movie?

Thanks to this tweet, Box Office Mojo is now saying Jem will be released wide in 2,200+ theaters.  That means the "Worst very wide openings" list over there is now in play, should Jem open with less than $5.7 million it will appear on the chart.  Also, Filmmusicreporter.com says that Hilary Duff is singing a version of Youngblood on the soundtrack.  The track is credited to "Hilary Duff and Jem & The Holograms."

Scott Mendelson's review for Forbes is up.  He's been knowledgeable about the 1980s cartoon.  He implies there are parallels to Josh Trank's Fantastic Four, in that it feels like the whole movie is being set up for a sequel.  And Jem cartoon fans certainly will not hold back on the 2015 Fantastic Four comparisons this weekend.
