Having the press embargo so late and doing early public screenings (so not afraid of spoilers etc) means they're worried about reviews.  Audience reactions are almost always more positive than critical reactions for non art house films and they hope this will build buzz before reviews do any possible damage.  Same playbook as BvS.

Not to mention even one of the producers more or less said "we're just sweeping this one under a rug as quickly and quietly as we can" when he said that it was once supposed to kick off a medieval movie universe.

I think it was the review embargo breaking more than a week before release. Something tells me the review embargo for this one will be held really close to the vest.
