He keeps reiterating that the ordinary people liked it...isn't that good enough? It'll probably make money. This isn't the first bad movie in your catalogue, dude.

Johnson is having probably first dollar gross point, he is helping the movie as much as he can and is team, the studio and him are trying to boost the movie performance and diminishing possible impact of bad reviews. (That a big reason why studio love him so much, a bit like Arnold back in the days) he push the product like no others.

Can't say I'm surprised at the abysmall reviews, I mean, what where they thinking replacing Hasselhoff with the Rock?

Surprised they did not  have Hasselhoff in a cameo. If GOGT 2 could do that, (with only a slight Hasselfhoff connection) why not Baywatch?

But then the whole film seems to have been misconceived; It's a failed comedy, and those are beyond redemption. Evne they had made it a bad action movie ( like the original was a bad TV action show) you could have had the possibility of it being "So Bad It's Good" movie with lots of unintentional laughs but a bad comedy is just plain bad.

His Trump-like tweets disappoint me.

Agreed, that is pretty lame.

It will make money, but not the kind that the studio expected.

And agreed, The Rock has made his share of stinkers.

You don't defend them, you just say "Sorry it did not turn out better" and move on.

And I am wondering what the hell happened to the Doc Savage movie starring Johnson, which was to be written and directed by Shane Black. Making a Doc Savage movie has been Black's life long dream, but we have not heard about it for a while.

Well the Rock is the next POTUS after all. :jeb!:

Somehow I think the way that Trump is turning out is going to put a kibosh on Celebs running for the Presidency for a while..unless they do a Reagan and come up through the ranks.

I think Will Smith reaction to Suicide Squad reception is the benchmark of what is the best position a movie star can take (combining the interest of the movie and himself)

“I think people had expectations that may have been different, but I’m excited for the fans to get to vote,” Smith said.

Not defending the movie at all, is probably not the best for the movie, is investor and yourself, but you need to take the good approach (I liked it, I'm excited about people reaction in theater, etc...).

Yes but 6 months later, not the weekend the movie is released!:depp:

Or you think he should have said:

Quote

"A year ago we had a fantastic version of Baywatch", penned the Rock. "And it would've recieved great reviews. You'll probably never see it. That's reality though."

The rock on his own can't draw audience..

San Andreas did well because the marketing was great+memorial weekend+disaster porn done solid = $$$

Central Intelligence did well because of great marketing+kevin hart+good wom

When the rock headlines a movie that is supposed to do well...we get Hercules.

Im really not sure of that, of last year 165 wide release, only 40 did over 24 m in their first weekend (and Baywatch is opened a wednesday/other factor that will hurt is 3 day opening quite a bit).

Jack Reacher 2 did 22.8 m, Melissa McCarthy the Boss did 23.5m, remove the franchise factor and opening around 20m is usually a sign of great star power.

Last year non sequel/Marvel/DC/remake/reboot/prequel live action that openned above that Baywatch movie:

Central intelligence: 35.5m

Sully: 35m

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children: 28.8m

Don't breathe: 26m

10 cloverfield Lane: 24m

Accoutant: 24m

Girl on a train: 24m

Warcraft: 24m

Arrival : 24m

Has you see reaching 25m is really not easy, and those who did had some franchise awareness like Baywatch and much better reviews (except for the Johnson/Hart movie).

Really solid B movie - critics were out to lunch on this one.

Both my spouse and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good, fun time who is not easily offended.

Some of the funniest comedic scenes on film that I've seen, wonderfully true to the source material while being updated to 2017, and great chemistry and acting, especially between Efron and Johnson...and great cameos:)...they make up for some tonal roughness, some times of too much serious, some flat jokes, and some interesting music choices...

I thought it was quite funny. Rock and Zac were great and theres the right amount of eye candy.

Best part was the chubby kid. He kinda stole a few scenes.

Yeah, he did - he made some of the amazing comic moments all by himself...I don't even know who that actor is, but I think I will soon:)...
