Maze Runner: The Death Cure | Jan 26 2018 | Final Trailer on Page 18

if Scorch Trials increases strongly from its predecessor overseas at least I can see the studio forcing a split regardless of what the filmmakers want.

Indeed, Part 1 will be a lot of running and moving around.  Part 2 will be a lot of running and moving around.

I think this franchise is not big enough to handle the drop of a two-movie split for the last book. Scorch Trials will need to build a lot on the goodwill / momentum that the Maze Runner has. A two-movie split would likely cause to lose a lot of momentum that the final movie won't even outgross the first movie. In the end, that would still be a bit profitable, but for the long-run of their franchise (toys, diaries, bed covers) it would not be a smart move.

Considering this is the first time Fox is faced with the split choice, and the director's wish for just one film, they won't split it. Lionsgate splitting MJ and Allegiant is difference because that's on the back of them splitting Twilight.

Who split Twilight was Summit before being bought by Lionsgate.

True but point still stands. For LGF/Summit a split is their way of doing things, for FOX we don't know, and WB only did just once which was HP (twice if you count Hobbit) Edited by antovolk

President's day weekend, smart.

I have to assume they fucked up with Scorch Trails and they are rushing to get it ready on time and to avoid that they decided to delay Death Cure a bit from September 2016 to February 2017.
