This could go either way at the box office. This should be interesting, when was the last time we saw Statham in a horror film? John Carpenter's Ghost Of Mars although he's in it for a bit and dies. I heard he was actually the original choice for the lead in that film but they chose Ice Cube instead.

This ain't a horror movie. This will be an action movie with elements of science thrown in with some corny/funny one liners to appeal to folks who like movies like Jurassic World.

Either way this sounds like a really fun movie!

Chinese audiences will enjoy the first commercial screenings of “Meg,” the Jason Statham and Li Bingbing-starring shark thriller movie that is now shooting.

Presenting companies Warner Bros. Pictures and China’s Gravity Pictures said that the film will release during the 2018 Chinese New Year period in China. The week-long annual holidays kick off on Friday Feb. 16 in 2018, some two weeks ahead of the film’s previously announced March 2, 2018 outing in the rest of the world.

Principal photography is now underway in New Zealand with Jon Turteltaub (the “National Treasure” movies, “Last Vegas”) as director. Filming will later shift to locations in China.

He hopes to sell more books, so of course he's going to hype it up.

Well, not every author comes out and supports the film adaptation of their book.  There's been a litany of cases like that.  So, he doesn't have to come out and support it.

Warner BrosMeg was originally set for March 2 of next year, but is now moving back to Aug. 10, 2018. The movie will be released in 3D and IMAX. Movie is based on Steve Alten’s bestselling novel about a Navy deep-sea submersible pilot Jonas Taylor, who once came in contact with the Carcharodon megalodon apex predator, a 70-foot, 60,000 pound Great White Shark with hundreds of 7-inch serrated teeth. Jonas barely escaped, but must prove to the world that Meg still exists.
