Recommended Posts

Of course it is still too early to call but that is the spirit of box office looneys doing useless predictions. I dare to say, it looks several films already scheduled are certain to enter the top 10 in 2016.

Note: release dates are unavailable for most 2016 releases at the moment.

============

1. Stephen Chow's Mermaid (2B)

Reference: Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons (1.25B, #1 of 2013)

2. Kung Fu Panda 3 (2B)

Reference: Kung Fu Panda 2 (617m, #2 of 2011)

3. Independence Day 2 (1.8B)

Reference: 2012 (465m, #1 of 2009)

4. Warcraft (1.8B)

Reference: Transformers (282m, #1 of 2007)

5. The Great Wall (1.6B)

Reference: The Flowers of War (608m, #3 of 2011)

=================

6. Kung Fu Yoga (1.6B)

Reference: The Myth (96m, #2 of 2005); Chinese Zodiac (879m, #3 of 2012)

7. Captain America: Civil War  (1.5B)

Reference: Captain America: The Winter Soldier (720m, #7 of 2014); Avengers: AOU (1460m, top 5 of 2015)

8.  X-Men: Apocalypse (1.5B)

Reference: X-Men: Days of Future Past (723m, #6 of 2014)

9. The Man from Macao 3 (1.5B)

Reference: The Man from Macao 2 (974m, top 10 of 2015)

10. Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (1.1B)

Reference: Man of Steel (395m, #14 of 2013)

==================

Other contenders should include Star Wars: The Force Awakens (this EP7 looks too old style & nostalgic / American friendly...), Ice Age 5 and maybe the next Hark Tsui film and dark horses.

4 $300m movies and almost 6 $200m movies? That's a good year for Dom

sounds high to me. I say 6 of them clear 1.25B/$200m of which 3 clear 1.86B/300m

Don't know about the local films, maybe man from macau3 has 3rd installment curse.

CA3 should be less than 1B, 35% lower than TA2

Xmen and BMvSM also should be closer to 1B or lower

ID2 has a shot to be big and will fight it out w the Panda for import high

:blink: Oh...boy. How do i follow the yuan currency numbers on these flicks? :blink:

Also, how much money does these films translate in U.S dollars?

I'm amazed how many people ask this question in the foreign thread. Google it, its faster than posting

dollar equals yen

About 56,600,000 results (0.34 seconds)

1 US Dollar equals
6.21 Chinese Yuan
been holding there steady for months now but has slipped from over 8 per dollar over the last few years. Will probably head down to 6 or lower next year. They'll have to sell more tickets to make the same dollars

 Great chart.

Crazy Nian  should be Crazy Aliens (疯狂的外星人) ? The third installment in Ning Hao's Crazy series. It's a live action.

2016 could have another Jackie Chan war pic Rail Road Tigers on National Day holidays and Journey to the West 2 in December. While Lost in India should be in 2017.

Btw, according to SARFT, KFP3 should be defined as a local film, at least box office wise....

Sorry, If yuan is getting stronger, it should need less tickets to make the same dollar i.e. from earning ¥6.20 to get $1 to just earning ¥6 to get $1 Edited by sgchn40

Drastic over estimations for a lot of these.

Also, completely missed Zootopia. But not even the teaser was released when this thread was made.
