Pixels began its global rollout along with its North American release this weekend and took in $21.4 million from 56 international territories on 7,100 screens. The early international cume is up to $25.4 million (South Korea opened last weekend with $4 million) and the worldwide total is $49.4 million. Pixels’ international opening is 39% ahead of The Lego Movie across the same markets. In Latin America, the film opened at #1 in Brazil ($3.1 million), Mexico ($3.7 million), Argentina ($2.3 million), Bolivia, Colombia, and Uruguay. Pixels also opened at #1 ahead of Ant-Man and Minions in Russia ($2.7 million) and ahead of Ant-Man in Spain ($1.3 million). Sony’s Pixels invaded 18 new markets in its sophomore session, adding $19.8M from almost 9,000 screens. The international cume is now $56.5M with 20 markets remaining, including the UK, Australia, Japan and China. Among highlights for Pac-Man, Donkey Kong & Co in this round was Germany which opened to $2.6M on 957 screens, ahead of both Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (+9%) and Ant-Man (+57%). In Italy, Pixels took No. 1 with $1.5M (including previews) from 370 screens and representing an estimated 32% market share. Russia was No. 1 again with $1.1M more in its high score. The cume is now $4.7M, surpassing the lifetime total of The Lego Movie by 20%. In Latin America, where Adam Sandler is a key draw for the family-friendly audiences, the overall drop was 34% from last weekend. Peru opened with $755K from 175 screens and out-performed Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation as the top new entry. It’s tracking ahead of The Lego Movie there by 100%. In Brazil, Pixels held onto No. 1 for the 2nd weekend, dropping just 22% to gross $2.4M and taking the cume to $7.3M, exceeding the lifetime of The Lego Movie by 81%. Mexico, also in its 2nd weekend, generated $2M from 1,316 screens with a 44% drop. This is the top overseas market for Pixels with $8M to date. Argentina dropped 29% to gross $1.6M from 225 screens. The local cume is $5.1M, besting the lifetime of Guardians Of The Galaxy by 20%.

Pixels continues to freeze at the international box office, grossing just $9.2 million (-54%) this weekend from 75 territories. The Adam Sandler-led family action film has grossed $73.6 million overseas and $131.24 million worldwide. Mexico, Pixels top international market, grossed $940K from 801 screens for $10.1 million total after 3 weekends of release. Pixels hits start in UK/Ireland on August 12, Australia on September 10, Japan on September 12, and China on September 15.

Sony’s Pixels has crossed the $100M mark overseas with $7.7M in extra arcade coins this frame. Playing on nearly 5,000 screens in 82 territories, the cume on the Adam Sandler video-game invasion pic is $105.3M. Pixels, which has China to come on September 15, added Hong Kong this session and opened No. 1, outgunning fellow newcomers Hitman: Agent 47 and Wild City with $785K from 93 screens. Potentially boding even better for the Mainland (where Pixels has investment from China Film Group), in HK the film is tracking 62% ahead of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In Thailand, it opened No. 3 with $310K from 117 screens; 76% ahead of The Lego Movie. Taiwan, with an extended four-day weekend, generated $570K from 108 screens. Also new and at No. 1 was the Netherlands with $350K, including previews, from 102 screens. UK cume is now $7.4M and Germany is $7.8M. The next openings are in early September.

Demonstrating the international pull of Adam Sandler, Pixels has now surpassed Grown Ups 2 as the star’s all-time highest grossing film internationally. It’s also his 7th to cross $100M overseas. This weekend generated another $5.2M from nearly 3,800 in 80 markets. The offshore cume is now $114.8M. In the Philippines, Pixels debuted No. 1 with $875K from 176 screens, tracking ahead of The Lego Movie by 71%. Hong Kong‘s 2nd frame kept the arcade game adventure at No. 1, taking the cume to $1.68M and surpassing the lifetime of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by 40%. The UK saw a 23% drop with a local cume of $9.6M. Germany‘s 5th session saw a 16% drop for a local total of $8.7M. Markets to come include Australia (September 10), Japan (September 12), and China (September 15).

Adam Sandler’s Pixels is closing in on $200M worldwide with a weekend of $3.2M and an international coin slot filled with $120.7M. There are still four markets to release with China among them on September 15. Among notable holds in Europe are the UK with a 35% drop in the 4th session and a cume of $11.4M. Germany slid just 13% and now tallies a total $9.3M.

Pixels crossed $200M worldwide for Sony ahead of the China release on Tuesday.

 

Adam Sandler has defied naysayers with Pixels passing the $200M global mark to hit $202.8M this frame. The Columbia Pictures action comedy now has an estimated $75.3M in North America and $127.5M internationally. And, it still has China to come. This past week the arcade games-as-aliens pic was released in Australia and Japan and added $5.2M to its take from over 3,000 screens in 73 markets. Pixels slotted in at No. 1 in Japan, taking the top spot from Ted 2 with $1.8M for Saturday-Sunday on 623 screens, and on par with Guardians Of The Galaxy. Australia, one of Sandler’s biggest offshore markets along with Brazil, opened with $1.6M (including previews) from 445 screens and at No. 3; it was on par with The Smurfs 2 and Hotel Transylvania.
