CAYOM Comic-Con Year 10

Recommended Posts

3:46 We get a video message from James Franco and Seth Rogen!

3:46 Franco just spills it out: SECOND TO SINGAPORE 2 is coming in Year 12!

3:47 Okay he doesn't actually call it that but it's still the sequel to this year's hit stoner comedy

3:47 Rogen says the movie is in pre-production and starts filming this spring. David Gordon Green is back to direct

3:47 As the video message ends both Franco and Rogen come up on stage to discuss it live

3:48 Rogen jokes about the audience being filled with nerds and geeks that came for a Disney cartoon only to shit their pants at the DEEP_WEB trailer

3:48 Franco says he's happy to be back at Comic-Con, and is looking forward to get high and make Singapore 2, maybe not in that order

3:49 The UNTITLED SECOND TO SINGAPORE SEQUEL comes out Spring Year 12 and will be produced by the main studio this time

3:50 Peters comes back on stage and starts discussing another video game-based project of theirs, MIRROR'S EDGE

3:51 The story is taken straight from the video game, starring Scarlet Johansson as Faith

3:51 It's being directed by Pierre Morel, a french guy that made the parkour-based movie DISTRICT 13

3:52 Before he's going to bring out Johansson, Peters will introduce a clip from the film

3:52 We see Faith running over rooftops being chased by government forces

3:53 The parkour is very impressive. Faith leaps from roof to roof, climbs onto pipes, grapples a hookline and slides down to punch one of her pursuers in the face

3:53 Faith is being surrounded on all sides now, how is she going to get out?

3:54 She takes a leap of "faith"! (pun intended)

3:54 A helicopter arrives in the nick of time and saves her, allowing her to escape from her pursuers as the clip ends

3:55 And now Scarlet Johansson comes on stage!

3:55 She talks about her role and how it's probably the most intense shoot she's ever done

3:56 Obviously stunt doubles did most of the crazier stunts, but she says she did at least a few of the stunts herself

3:57 She announces that MIRROR'S EDGE is set to be released this November!

3:58 Peters comes back up and says that's it for their live-action portion, at least for the moment, and the panel will continue with the animation portion after a short break.

4:05 And we're back!

4:05 We start with a recreation of the DuckTales opening titles animated in the style of Cookie Pictures' recent Scrooge McDuck movie.

4:06 The parts containing characters like Launchpad or Webbie are replaced with different scenes though, probably because they didn't appear in the movie.

4:06 Interestingly they keep the part with Magica DeSpell. Maybe a hint for the villain in Scrooge McDuck 3?

4:07 Holy shit Jean Dujardin dressed in a black knight's armor just walked on stage!

4:07 It's a very accurate recreation of the Black Knight's design in the comic

4:08 He starts taunting Peters (and the audience) in the character's stereotypical french accent

4:08 Dujardin: "Ah zee nous imbéciles trembling before mes pieds!"

4:09 He goes on to crack a few more jokes at the audience's expense in that snooty accent

4:09 Peters tries to shoo him off the stage, avoiding contact because Dujardin's covered in the Omnisolve liquid

4:10 Peters: "We're really happy to have you here but can you please keep your distance? I worry about the crowd here"

4:10 Dujardin: "Hah! Le Chevalier Noir is a thif! Thifs listens to no men in suits!"

4:11 Dujardin chases Peters off-stage as Mark Dindal appears

4:11 He's here to introduce us to a brand new clip from THE BLACK KNIGHT!

4:12 The clip begins with Scrooge and Donald standing guard outside McDuck's money bin

4:12 They are expecting someone, as Scrooge is armed with a musketeer and they have a cannon pointing straight at the field ahead of them

4:13 Donald notices a sketch of the whole layout placed right beside them, and Scrooge realizes that Arpin Lusene (the Black Knight) placed it there

4:14 Scrooge: "Awk! This is a complete layout of my exterior defenses!" Donald: "Funny, it wasn't there a minute ago"

4:15 Scrooge calms down and shows Donald the interior of building, covered in all sorts of booby traps, and remarks that it would be impossible for Lusene to get by undetected

4:15 They then realize that they forgot to cover the ceiling, and that Lusene has already snuck by above them

4:16 Donald: "Got a human fly swatter in your broom closet?"

4:17 The pair spots Lusene's calling card in the diamond vault and search through it, not noticing Lusene standing just behind them.

4:17 Lusene proceed to steal one of the bags inside the vault right and escapes without the two ducks noticing

4:18 Scrooge proceeds to check the main vault (where he keeps most of his money)

4:18 He finds nothing inside and closes the door again, and we see that Lusene has managed to sneak into the vault

4:19 It first looks like Lusene is going to steal all the money, but he monologues about the bounty being too large for him to bring out undetected, and in order to escape from the vault he slides another calling card through the door. Scrooge sees the card and panics

4:20 It turns out to be a trap, and Lusene closes the vault door behind him after Donald and Scrooge enters and he exits

4:21 And that's where the clip ends. Dindal says he won't show any further today because they have other stuff to get to.

4:22 He instead tells the crowd to look out for a new trailer coming in December

4:22 THE BLACK KNIGHT glorps into theaters November 24th Year 11!

@AlphaPictures

Sorry to announce, but we will not be doing a Comic-Con panel this year. :(

(I may do some sort of D23-esque off-season presentation but I don't have much time in my life right now to write out a full presentation.)

4:23 Now Dindal is going to talk about the future of the Duckverse

4:24 He talks about taking a producer role for all future Duckverse movies, and may even direct a few

4:25 Starting with THE BLACK KNIGHT in Year 11, there's going to be at least one new Duckverse movie every year

4:25 He brings up a powerpoint that shows future dates stretching all the way to November Year 13

4:25 The first date is May 27th, Year 12, and that belongs to...

4:26 CHIP N' DALE RESCUE RANGERS!

4:26 The show's theme starts playing as the film's logo appears on screen. I can hear rounds of applause behind me

4:27 Dindal mentions that unlike the Scrooge McDuck series, Chip n' Dale will be based directly on the tv show

4:27 Familiar characters like Gadget, Monty, Sergeant Spinelli, Fat Cat and others will appear in the film

4:28 However, the story will be original, albeit heavily inspired by episodes from the show

4:28 The film will be directed by Don Hall with Dindal producing

4:29 The next date is November 23rd, Year 12, but Dindal skips over it for now

4:29 He instead focuses on November 22nd, Year 13

4:30 That being the UNTITLED THIRD SCROOGE MCDUCK FILM

4:30 Dindal reveals that the third film will go back to featuring an original story, but will include a very recognizable antagonist

4:31 He won't spoil who it is, but he says that fans may already be on the right track

4:31 As for the date in the middle, Dindal will be saving it for later

4:31 Jean Dujardin comes back on stage one last time and waves goodbye to the crowd along with Dindal

4:32 Sebastian Peters comes back on stage and says it's time to talk about the thing he's been waiting for

4:32 Namely Cookie Pictures Animation's original projects!

4:33 He says that while the Duckverse is a very important thing for them, Peters feels the studio needs an identity outside of "the studio that makes Duck cartoons"

4:33 He starts off by introducing PROJECT CYBERSPACE

4:34 CYBERSPACE will be the studio's first CG-animated project

4:34 Peters describes the film as "Osmosis Jones in a computer", albeit much more serious and noir-based

4:34 Concept art is being shown while Peters explains the film's story

4:35 The story follows a detective, being a human representation of an anti-malware code, hunting down criminals, in this case computer viruses, in a crime-ridden city that is a fictional representation of a malware-infected circuit board

4:36 However, the detective's life is turned upside-down as he encounters a computer virus that isn't intentionally causing harm, represented in the film as an innocent little girl

4:37 As the two start forming a bond, he has to keep the girl hidden from other anti-malware and while trying to find a way to "cleanse" her without actually destroying her

4:37 This is easier said than done as the girl turns out to be a massively devastating virus, and can destroy any line of code (other people in the city) that she comes in contact with

4:38 All the while the detective discovers that the girl is a pawn in a larger conspiracy that could end up having devastating effects in the real world

4:39 Peters calls it a very ambitious project for the studio, and thus they can not set a release date just yet, but he'll promise to keep us updated

4:40 Moving on to THE SCAVENGER WARS

4:40 Peters starts off by announcing the new release date: December 25th, Year 10

4:40 He thanks everyone for being patient and apologizes for the delays

4:40 The project is very ambitious and expensive which unfortunately caused the pushbacks, but Peters hopes it'll be worth the wait

4:41 Before he introduces footage from the film, he brings out three actors from the main voice cast: Daniel Henney, Laura Bailey and Keith David! As they enter, Peters starts revealing the film's story with the aid of concept art

4:42 In the far future, mankind is at war against an alien race called the Scavengers.

4:43 Henney plays Joel, a traumatized soldier heading back into the battlefield due to being unable to adjust to life back at home

4:43 He gets captured by Scavenger forces and is brought to their capital as a slave

4:44 However, he's discovered by the Scavenger princess Tamara, voiced by Liz Sroka, and she brings him in as a servant in order to keep him alive

4:44 Meanwhile back at home, Joel's sister Kira, voiced by Bailey, forges a plan along with the siblings' adoptive father Captain Barks, played by David, to rescue her brother

4:45 While a bond grows between Tamara and Joel, Kira uncovers a conspiracy within the human front and thus she has to evade government persecution, all while tensions between humans and Scavengers continue to escalate.

4:46 Peters describes the film as an epic that deals with themes of prejudice, war, trauma and finding peace between two opposing sides

4:47 Onto the clip, which is a scene around a third into the film where Joel discusses an escape plan with his fellow inmates: a sentient planetary rover named T-Bot, voiced by Keegan Micheal-Kay, a tall robot named Reese, a fish-faced alien named Albert voiced by Doug Jones, and Joel's accompany Rickie, voiced by Anthony Del Rio.

(I'll be back with the clip in a few minutes, just need a short break from all the typing :))

4:48 We are introduced to the characters in the scene as they try to figure out a way to escape the cell.

4:48 Both Joel and Rickie look pretty badly beaten. This probably isn't long after they've been captured.

4:49 T-Bot is so small compared to everyone else. He looks adorable, but he seems to have one hell of a mouth.

4:50 T-Bot: "If you think I'm climbing all the way up there you are one stupid human."  Joel: "I didn't ask you to climb all the way up there."  T-Bot: "I'm just saying it in case you'd ask."

4:51 Joel is seen scouring the cell for a way to escape, but becomes angry when he can't seem to find any.

4:51 We can tell he's powerful as all hell, as he manages to punch a hole in a solid stone wall.

4:52 Albert takes note of Joel's strength as Rickie starts hyperventilating and thinking they're never going to get out

4:52 Rickie: "We're going to die here, aren't we?!"  Joel: "Nobody's going to die here!" T-Bot: "You sure about that?"

4:53 A sound can be heard coming from the window several dozens of feet up.

4:53 We see a letter drop down from the window and Joel picks it up. The mysterious figure who dropped the letter vanishes from the scene almost instantly. Joel opens and reads the letter.

4:54 T-Bot: "What is that?"  Joel: "...Our ticket outta here."

4:55 After the clip concludes Peters announces a SCAVENGER WARS trailer coming in the next few days. He reiterates that the film comes out December 25th.

4:56 He reveals that they will have to conclude the show due to running out of time, but there is one more reveal before this year's panel ends.

4:56 He thanks everyone for coming and says he's going to let a certain person end the show for him

4:57 Mark Dindal is being brought back on stage!

4:57 He asks the audience if they remember that untitled Duckverse film he didn't reveal earlier.

4:57 Well now it's time for him to finally reveal it.

4:58 He says it needs no introduction once you know a certain choice of words.

4:58 Dindal takes a step back. The room goes silent.

4:59 Dindal: "Let's. Get. Dangerous"

4:59 DARKWING DUCK!

5:00 The crowd behind me is going wild over this announcement

5:01 Dindal has little information to share currently, but like CHIP N' DALE the film will be based on the show but have an original storyline

5:01 He reiterates that the film comes out November 22nd, Year 12

5:02 That's a wrap! Hope you've enjoyed our coverage! This is Craig, signing out. :)

NUMERATOR PICTURES COMIC-CON PANEL PART 2

Trimester 2, Year 11 Preview

The stage lights come on as Neil Marshall walks out to introduce StarCraft: Queen of Blades. Marshall is excited to talk about his second StarCraft film and the fourth and final film in the initial series of movies. Marshall says this film will be the most action-packed, epic, and dramatic of the four film saga, with loads of betrayals, tricks, traps, and setpieces as the multi-pronged war for the Koprulu Sector reaches its climax. The huge cast is getting another addition, with Zoe Kravitz joining as the motion-capture Protoss warrior Selendis. Marshall says Kravitz’s character will only have a minor role in this movie, but the character does take on a recurring role in the franchise so expect to see her back when the franchise’s next saga of films unloads. But with a wink and mischievous smile, Marshall says also to expect a good number of the film’s cast to not make it out of the movie alive. The crowd gets amped over that, with the game players knowing exactly what to expect and the non-players all worried about who is going to die.

Marshall chuckles at the reaction and says he’ll let some of the cast come out to say some more. Josh Brolin (Jim Raynor), Rooney Mara (Kerrigan), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Stukov), and Jon Hamm (Zeratul) come out to applause.

We then have a brief Q&A where each of the cast members on stage talks about their character’s goals in the movie and some other information. Brolin says Raynor is stuck in an alliance with a bunch of people he doesn’t trust and only a few friends. “Right now his job is to make sure Kerrigan and Mengsk don’t kill each other before they can defeat their common enemy” he says with a laugh. Brolin says he had a ton of fun acting with William Hurt (Mengsk) and Rooney, and he cracks a joke that with all the makeup and prosthetics he wasn’t even sure if Rooney was wearing anything underneath. The crowd laughs and Rooney says that she was, “you wouldn’t believe how much the stuff would chafe if I didn’t.”

The crowd laughs again as it is Rooney’s turn. Rooney says more than any of the others this is Kerrigan’s film, as it’s about her truly coming into her own both with strength of powers and her confidence and plans. “It’s interesting because she is working with someone she once loved and someone she absolutely hates, and yet she also has her own agenda and it’s a ticking time bomb as you wait to see if or when she decides to pull the trigger.” Rooney says it took 4 hours each day to apply all the makeup and prosthetics she wears to play Kerrigan in her infested form. She says working with a lot of the same cast and crew for four films has created a little family for her.

It’s now Nikolaj’s turn and he grins and tells the audience that as the one actual Earthling in the cast on stage he expects their support. The audience and others chuckle. Nikolaj says that he spent most of his time acting with Max von Sydow and Lance Reddick but he does have a couple scenes with Josh in the film as well. “Alexei is a guy who wants to fight for Earth, but he is getting more and more troubled by what his boss is doing and what the shady Duran is up to, so he has doubts. This I think gives him a connection with Raynor, who is fiercely independent but has doubts about whether working with two enemies to keep that independence will be worth it.” He tells the audience to expect some big revelations and hefty dramatic moments.

It is finally Jon Hamm’s turn. He says he doesn’t have to have four hours of makeup prep like Rooney, instead he gets to wear a green spandex suit to motion-capture Zeratul. Hamm says that Zeratul and the Protoss aren’t in this film a ton, but when they do come in it affects the story in a big way. “Zeratul thinks his people have won their fight and are safe for now, but eventually they get dragged back into the fray and Zeratul starts to realize that something bigger is in play.” Hamm says Zeratul probably has his most emotional moment to date in the series in this film and it was a wonder to do.

With that, Marshall and the cast show off some concept art for the film and some character posters. StarCraft: Queen of Blades arrives May, Year 11.

After a short break Tony Gilroy comes out to the empty stage to talk about Call of Duty: Nova. The fourth film in the CoD film series is a prequel that loosely ties in events of the first Black Ops game with the Modern Warfare series. “We wanted to continue working with this energetic and hard-hitting franchise, so we found a couple minor ways to connect this story with the Modern Warfare trilogy.” Those connections come from a couple minor characters in the film being young versions of their MW counterparts and a couple other references thrown in. Gilroy says that after the heavy action warfare of the second and third films, this one dials the craziness back a decent bit and is smaller in focus. “It’s more like the first movie, an action spy commando flick.” Gilroy praised Jeremy Renner, who plays lead character Alex Mason, with his intensity and commitment to the role. He also praises Gary Oldman, who reprises his role from the video game itself. Gilroy says he and Renner joked about working together again on a fourth film in the franchise after Gilroy takes over for Paul Greengrass. The audience laughs at the Bourne Legacy reference as Gilroy promises there’ll be no chems in this movie.

Gilroy then shows the audience a short sizzle reel for the movie:

We see Renner’s character Alex Mason looking at a lush villa through binoculars with characters played by Frank Grillo (Woods) and Nate Parker (Bowman). Mason says it’s go time and the three load up with weapons and ammo before setting out. We see a few brief shots of them leading several other men in a raid on the villa and then making a getaway that winds up with them in a jeep trying to catch a cargo plane on a runway about to take off.

We get a voiceover from Rupert Friend’s character, a CIA agent, saying that the Cold War is getting more and more volatile as everyone is looking for the magic weapon to destroy the other side. He says that General Dragovich of the KGB thinks he has found it. The voiceover is intercut with shots of other characters in the movie and locations establishing the setting. We get a look at Dragovich, played by Stellan Skarsgard.

The sizzle reel shifts to a location that is clearly supposed to be Vietnam. Mason, Woods, and Bowman see a city on fire as battle rolls around the streets and they comment about how messed up this war is, though their mission has nothing to do with it. We see some more action shots of them having to stealth through the urban warfare and fight off some enemies as they franticly search for some documents. As they rush for an evac helicopter a big explosion knocks them all flat and the screen goes dark.

The screen then shows them tied up in a prison camp, with Russian and Vietnamese captors entering. One of them puts a couple bullets in a revolver, spins the chamber, and puts it down in-between Woods and Bowman. “Play” the Russian (Sean Harris) says. Woods and Bowman are hesitant, so the other captors draw weapons on them. Mason grabs the revolver himself and points it to his head. He closes his eyes…and pulls the trigger, the screen cutting out just as he does it. The crowd claps and Gilroy thanks them for their time and says to stay hyped for when the Trimester 3 Preview is ready to go.

Call of Duty: Nova arrives July, Year 11.

NUMERATOR PICTURES COMIC-CON PANEL PART 3

Trimester 3, Year 11

The stage lights up as director Philip Noyce (The Cardinal in the Kremlin, Year 6) walks from behind the curtain. As the audience knows, he was previously announced as the director for the scheduled Year 11 Star Wars film, so they are really pumped, Noyce says it is a great honor to be among the directors chosen to shepherd the current Star Wars story arc and he can’t wait to share details with the audience. The first thing he reveals is the title of the movie: STAR WARS: AN ANCIENT LEGACY.

Noyce says the film is geared as a sort of archeological mystery adventure, with the core protagonists and antagonists of the film tracking down clues and artifacts, and getting tangled up in some bigger events. With very few of the details known, Noyce says he’s going to explain some of the characters and premises.

The main protagonist of the film is a young, powerful, but also arrogant Jedi apprentice by the name of Exar Kun. Some of the crowd whisper and chatter, recognizing who the character is from the old Star Wars lore. Noyce says the character is very skilled, and sure of it, which leads to him charging off on his own to handle a particular mission and as well as becoming driven to learn the knowledge the antagonists are seeking. It also leads to him biting off more than he can chew. Taron Egerton will play Exar Kun.

Rounding out the good guys who train with Exar Kun and are forced to chase after him when he goes off on his own are Sylvar, Crado, and Dace Diath. Sylvar and Crado are Cathar, and will be played with a mix of makeup and motion-capture to best capture the humanoid alien look. They will be played by Lauren Cohan and Stephen Amell. B.J. Britt will play Dace Diath. Co-starring in a minor role as their Jedi Master will be voice actor Dee Bradley Baker, who will voice the role of Master Vodo-Siosk Baas, who Noyce describes as a “4-foot tall lobster with two legs.”

Noyce then decide it is time to talk about the “bad guys.” Alicia Vikander will play the main antagonist, a cunning noblewoman by the name of Aleema Keto, who is masterminding the thefts of Force artifacts as she tracks down clues. Joining her is her sadistic cousin Satal Keto, played by Iwan Rheon. Noyce says the good guys and bad guys converge on Onderon in the second half of the movie, where they cross paths with Tott Doneeta, Joel Kinnaman reprising his role from Star Wars: Age of the Republic, and Novar, Sharlto Copley reprising his role. Noyce says about a year has passed in the timeline since Age of the Republic, and Novar has recovered from his injuries and is in charge of an underground resistance, and when the Ketos come to town he senses an opportunity. Noyce says the climax of the film will take place on the jungle moon of Dxun, which was seen from afar but never visited in Age of the Republic.

Noyce says that filming has not started, but he will share concept art of the characters and locations. We see art depicting all of the major characters in various establishing scenes or action shots, as well as some cool locations. One location that attracts some eager whispers is a large temple of black stone in the middle of a jungle wilderness. Another that attracts even more buzz is a concept art drawing of Exar Kun, Satal Keto, and Novar in what looks like a three-way lightsaber battle.

Noyce says that wraps up his presentation and he wishes the crowd well. Star Wars: An Ancient Legacy arrives November, Year 11.

After a short break, Kenneth Branagh appears to talk about his latest film: His Majesty’s Service. The film is an alternate history version of World War II and is focused on a team of five British soldiers and spies who undergo a very dangerous mission behind enemy lines to stop a nefarious Nazi plot. Those five individuals: Famous authors Ian Fleming, Roald Dahl, C.S. Forrester, and Patrick O’Brien, and famous actor Christopher Lee, all of whom served as spies or soldiers in the war. Branagh says that work on the film has only just started, but the five heroes have been cast:

Henry Cavill will play Ian Fleming. Domhnall Gleeson will play Roald Dahl, Liam Hemsworth will play Christopher Lee, Ben Whishaw will play C.S. Forester, and Sam Heughan will play Patrick O’Brien. Branagh himself will appear in the film, though he doesn’t say whether as a good guy or a villain. He also says that other known spies from both sides of the war will appear in the film as alternate reality incarnations. Casting for supporting characters and antagonists is still in progress.

So with that, Branagh says there isn’t much more to say at this time, but he can’t wait to share further information down the road. His Majesty’s Service debuts December, Year 11.
