Incepted
Breaking Dawn II. You know the academy like to honour amazing series' when they've finished ala LOTR so that's why BD II will win best picture regardless of quality as the rest have been fantastic. CloneWars
I remember one year saying something like this:"One thing is for sure-the film WILL have sound" That would have been epic if you said that last year. Oh, the irony. Too bad the thread you said it in doesn't exist.

SchumacherFTW
If The Dark Knight Rises is of similar quality to TDK, i'd call it a lock. The academy won't survive this time if they snub it at the same level. Maybe Anonymous will hack them if it happens...
Founder / Operator Shawn Robbins Posted January 24, 2012 Founder / Operator Share Posted January 24, 2012 We can probably lock Lincoln and Django if their makers' histories are anything to go by.

SchumacherFTW
It's because of TDK that we have the current BP system, the public may reject the oscars all together if they latch on to TDKR the same way and it doesn't get recognition. Especially with them about to have their lowest rated telecast ever.
Founder / Operator Shawn Robbins Posted January 24, 2012 Founder / Operator Share Posted January 24, 2012 I don't think we can speculate about TDKR until we see how the movie turns out. Its quite possible they treat it like they treated DH2. Granted, it is because of TDK that the nominee system changed anyway...and once they see how awful this year's ratings are, they'll probably feel the need to nominate a huge movie (if its well-received). The Hobbit could just as easily fill that void though, potentially. The fact is that the Academy simply doesn't share the same feelings for Nolan as most of the rest of the world. In time, that will change because the older voters will die off and be replaced the younger up-and-coming members. But until then, all bets are off for his films. Inception proved that.
ddddeeee
I really, really doubt the academy even consider ratings when they're voting.

CloneWars
I really, really doubt the academy even consider ratings when they're voting.Yes, but ratings inspired them to change the nominee system so that movies like TDK have a shot at getting a nomination. Founder / Operator Shawn Robbins Posted January 25, 2012 Founder / Operator Share Posted January 25, 2012 I really, really doubt the academy even consider ratings when they're voting.Eh, yea, probably true. But the sponsors do when they pay for advertising during the Academy's show.
Founder / Operator Shawn Robbins Posted January 25, 2012 Founder / Operator Share Posted January 25, 2012 I'm not banking on a Hobbit nomination just yet (or TDKR). Both have an insanely high level of expectations to live up to, and the Academy has already shown it doesn't fully "get" Nolan and his work.Meanwhile, Jackson has already won everything he can and matching LOTR in quality -- in the eyes of older voters especially -- is going to be extremely difficult, if not impossible. But, hey, if it turns out great...at least they like him.
