The title to this thread seriously should be updated.

Thread starter got already pinged for that, seem to not react

The main reason I do not start film threads is:

I am usually not sure to be here enough for title updates and as such wont start any of those kind of threads

SW will have many chances in future. This might be the last time that Marvel film is the highest grossing film of year.

Episodes won't be trounced but spin-offs obviously will be. OS markets know that spin-offs are not important for the main story and could be skipped. Now, if they start doing spin-offs that tie in with the main Star wars than they could raise the interest. Maybe.

I'd definately expect a total above 1.04b, more likely somewhere in the range of 1.045b or 1.05b. Domestically it should finish at the very least close to Dark Knight, which is another 20m or so. Add just 10m internationally and you are already over 1.04b. Seeing how it made more money internationally than domestically this weekend, I don't see how it could do less than half the rest of the way, so that number is probably closer to 15m, maybe more. That would put it at over 1.045b already.

If the domestic total somehow ends up closer to 540m than 530m, it should top 1.05b.

Disney smashed it in 2016:

Biggest yearly domestic gross ever – first time for a studio to top $3B (previous record: Universal, 2015 – $2.44B )

Biggest yearly overseas gross ever – first time for a studio to top $4.5B (previous record: Universal, 2015 – $4.44B )

Biggest yearly worldwide gross ever – first time for a studio to top $7B and $7.5B (previous record: Universal, 2015 – $6.9B)

First time a studio releases 4 billion-dollar films in a single year (previous record: Universal, 2015 – 3 billion-dollar films)

First time a studio owns all 5 of the top 5 films of the year WW (previous record: Universal, 2015 – 3 out of the top 5 films WW)

Top 5 films of a single studio earn more than $960M each (previous record: Disney, 2015 – top 5 films grossed more than $510M each)

Domestic:  $520,049,573    50.5%
Foreign:  $510,000,000    49.5%

Worldwide:  $1,030,049,573

21st place on the Alltime-WW-List (7th Dom, and ranks 60 OS). Should get to 20. (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides $1,045M)
