THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS | 1010.0 M overseas ● 1236.0 M worldwide

Recommended Posts

F8 had a ~103 OS-China weekend (158.1 including China) for a 423 OS-China cume (after 2nd weekend).

It needs close to 600 for 1.2b as China is looking at sub 380.

375 Ch + 235 Dom + 590 OS-Ch = 1.2b

With GOTG2 competing, I think 575 OS-Ch is more likely for 1.175b WW.

Agree, I was thinking that it would beat F7's 17-day-to-1-billion third place record, but I guess no.

Even if does it on Friday (17 days in release), we will have to see how much it made in cume to pass F7.

Still going to be faster than Avatar though.

Fastest-grossing films to $1 billion
Rank Date Title Days to milestone Gross on day of milestone/$ Reference(s)

4 January 3, 2010 Avatar 19 1,020,000,000 [4]

It would be lucky for F8 to reach half of the avatar's total

That website hasn't matched the other overseas updates we've gotten from Mojo/DL/etc.  I'm guessing there's some mixing-n-matching going on somewhere, but not sure where.  For example, UPI updates around 6pm UK time most days, and they may be adding in the next day's income from some of the furthest east markets and/or leaving out some from north/south american markets.

On April 19 Mojo had $565.1m while UPI had $558.73m, a gap of 6.37

And on April 26th Mojo had $794.2m while UPI had $771.94m, a gap of 22.26

I think overseas updates in general are much less accurate than I assumed before.

I think the updates from BOM, the numbers, etc. are kind of useless anyway, due to the completely idiotic way they handle exchange rates. Those should be applied at the very least on a weekly basis, instead of recounting the total with the latest exchange rate.

I mean, just look at the following data from TFA:

http://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Star-Wars-Ep-VII-The-Force-Awakens/United-Kingdom#tab=box-office

It left theaters in the UK at the end of May, sitting at $180m, following some rather absurd swings. Then it happened to run in some open-air venues in the summer, which somehow caused its total to lose almost 20m because the Pound happened to be weaker at that time. That just doesn't make any sense.

UPI's new total is 827,977,330

I don't know if that includes anything from Friday for the far east territories. If not, the domestic update will push F8 past $1B on Thursday.

everything as per box office mojo

Crossed $1B WW on Sat; biggest Western movie in China, as per Forbes:

By the way, it has earned $361 million in China alone and its 2.43 billion RMB gross puts it above Furious 7 ($391m in 2015, but with a different exchange rate) as the second-biggest grosser ever in China behind The Mermaid.

Offshore this session, F8 added $68.4M in 69 territories. Japan was new this weekend with $7.5M for the best start in the franchise’s 16-year history.

OS-Japan +100M

Japan +25M

DOM +30M

155M +1060M = 1215M

I think BATB is winning.

Can it break a billion overseas?

If it follows the same weekly drops, it will finish around the $950 million OS mark. It might be lower since GOTG2 is cutting the legs in many markets.
