-Who asked for a new take on the mummy? the Brendan Frasier movies are not that old.

-First time director Alex Kurtzman is untested

-Cruise and rusell crowe are old. they don't appeal to the new generation like, say someone like Cris Pratt

-fierce competition in june 2017

Out because, well, Cruise. I got nothing new to add.

In the last 10 years he's had a tough time getting a film over 100M.

I think the adverting plus Cruise will get it over $100 million. But I don't have much faith in the Monsters Universe. It's sounds corny as hell. Everything will drop after this one.

Out. It'll likely be older-skewing, and there's no other big-budget adult blockbuster in its vicinity until Apes (Bad Boys and WWZ2 aren't happening, and Kingsman will likely appeal more to young adults).

OUT

June 2017

  • Despicable Me 3: $105 million/$310 million
  • Wonder Woman: $95 million/$270 million
  • Transformers - The Last Knight: $70 million/$165 million
  • Kingsman - The Golden Circle: $50 million/$145 million
  • The Mummy: $45 million/$115 million
  • The House: $30 million/$110 million
  • Cars 3: $35 million/$95 million
  • Rock That Body: $15 million/$50 million

It would do better with less action competition (Wonder Woman, Kingsman 2 and Transformers 5 all directly target its demo.... and with a PG-13 and a big budget, it's not likely to be a straight horror film) and a lower budget, but I think it'll generate enough interest for a $40-50 million OW and get to $100-130 million DOM.
