Every year, we get a film where crazy woman or man enters the life of another woman or man threatening to take it apart due to their infatuation with either the person or their significant other. They’re always are released in September and released by Sony’s Screen Gems. Ever since they released Obsessed in 2009 they’ve bending…wait Warner Bros? What are you doing with an Obsessed ripoff?

What’s the deal with Warner Bros. trying to steal Sony’s thunder? Last month they attempted to do that with CHiPs in an attempt to cash in on the success of Sony’s 21 Jump Street and now we have Unforgettable which is NOTHING BUT A CASH IN ON SONY’S OBSESSED! FOR SHIT SAKE THE TIME OF THE RELEASE DATE BARELY EVEN DIFFERS!

Obsessed Release Date: April 24th, 2009

Unforgettable  Release Date: April 21st, 2017

For God’s sake, Sony ripped off their own film nearly every year in the month of September with no but black actors. But Warner Bros? This is a new low for you guys to distribute this.

LOL, Beyoncé fans are annoying. Obsessed was neither original or a box office hit.

Well it made 123 million in revenue and close to 40 million in profit from a 23 million production budget and a small 39 million world releasing cost (pretty much no oversea release), in the industry it must be considered a nice hit, 42% ROI.

Unforgettable is the feature directorial debut of long-time producer Denise Di Novi (Batman Returns, Crazy, Stupid, Love.), stars Rosario Dawson and Katherine Heigl and was made on a slim, $12 million budget. The thriller is debuting in 2,417 theaters and industry estimates have the film targeting a $7 million opening, which appears to be a safe estimation based on what we're looking at. Direct similarities in the $7 million range are tough to find as films such as last year's When the Bough Breaks and The Boy Next Door have opened with double that estimate, and IMDb page view data at the same point in the release cycle tends to reflect that comparison... almost...

While we aren't holding our breath, Unforgettable is pacing well behind the likes of The Boy Next Door as well as behind 2013's Halle Berry starrer The Call at the same point in the release cycle, but it is pacing ahead of When the Bough Breaks, though that September 2016 opener appears to be more noise than any kind of real signal. That said, keep that stat in your back pocket as well as the fact the average opening weekend for a similar feature* opening in this many theaters is $11.4 million, which at this point seems outside of this film's reach, but is worth noting. For our forecast, however, we're anticipating an opening over the industry estimate, right around $8.2 million for the three-day.

Of course Obsessed wasn't original but it made $68M in 2009, adjusts to $79M, either is more than other Screen Gems thrillers like No Good Deed, The Perfect Guy, and When the Bough Breaks.

Heigl could always act, her career tanked because she was chasing the America's Sweetheart stardom, which suited her talents but not her personality. I really wonder if the trajectory of rom-coms at the box office this decade would have been different if she'd handled her time on top better, she was showing all the signs of slaying in that genre until audiences turned on her.

Wow, this was bad. I mean, really, really bad, so bad that it can't even join the "it's so bad, that it's good" category. I have no idea how this has a higher score than The Boy Next Door considering that it has several bigger problems. Who the hell did the edition of this movie? It is between this, Bye Bye Man and RE6 for worst edition of year, the direction is awful, and the movie looks so cheap that can't even be considered as a movie from Life channel. Jesus, it doesn't even have humor, if you're going to make a stupid movie as this one, at least put a lot of humor to make it tolerable, there's not worst than a dumb movie that takes itself too seriously. The only good thing here is Heigl's iconic acting. This, and When the Bough Breaks joins the list of sexual thrillers that are just stupid. Far behind The Boy Next Door, and Obsessed that are dumb fun.
