That One Girl
Well...we'll be off to a "great" start for horror depending on your POV. There's a new horror movie every week until Feb. 3 (underworld 5, Bye Bye Man, Split, Resident Evil 7, Rings).

Rings looks like DOA, U5 is bad, really bad, and BBM looks bland. I'm really excited for A Cure for Wellness, thought. It may be one of the surprises of the year, the premise is really interesting! Mockingjay Raphael
So, guys. 2016 saw a nice rebound from previous years, thanks in a big way to the massive performance from Conjuring II that was able to increase WW, despite facing way worse ER than the first movie, I'm not sure if this year can beat 2016, there's no big blockbusters coming, maybe Anabelle? Although, I'm feeling a Ouija 2 vibe here. What's your predictions for biggest movie of year? I'm going with The Nun, if it is released this year. The Futurist
Maybe the Jlawnofski movie could be a contender for this thread. We ll see.

The Futurist
That s a pretty good remark Mockingjay, this genre gets actually no respect yet it features tons of terrific acting performances each year.

Exactly! And this makes me so angry, no matter how good the movie is, if it labeled as horror, then you can be sure that it will be ignored in the biggest awards. Look at the The Witch for example, one of the most acclaimed movies of year, it already won 8 awards: LVFCS – Best Costume LVFCS – Best Horror/Sci- FiCFCA – Most Promising Filmmaker TFCA – Best First Feature BSFC – Best New Filmmaker NYFCO – Best Debut as Director Gotham Independent – Breakthrough Actor PFCS – Breakthrough Performance Anya Taylor Joy also is receiving a lot of nomintations, still, the movie won't be considered even for the tecnical categories in the major Awards. McAvoy is also being praised by every single critic for his performance in Split, still, he's not even being considered in any award, I'm pretty sure if Split was labeled as drama, he would be already receiving some love from awards. Mockingjay Raphael
Box Office is projecting $3m/$8m for this, not a surprise considering how bad is that trailer. But it actually has a good premise, I hope it will end being a nice surprise.

I think Get Out will open over $20m. Theres a trailer on Facebook with 50m views.

Conjuring - 180m OS Annabelle - 172m Conjuring 2 - 218m I'm expecting at the very least 150m from OS. My prediction is 60/180/240
PDC1987
Given the current social climate the premise alone could make Get Out a sleeper hit.

Talking about BH, while they had a quiet year last year, releasing only 3 movies, they're back in full mode this year. They already scheduled 7 movies for this year, with more to come. Altough, I'm not sure if it is a good thing.

Ouija 2 had a 37% drop, the same drop would bring $55m to Annabelle 2, and that's what I'm expecting. Altough, I don't expect it to have the same drop as Ouija 2 OS, it basically stayed flat, while I'm expecting a huge drop for Anna. You need to remember that what made the first movie so big was LA markets, and they're facing terrible ER right now, the first movie made a massive $16.3M here, this one will be lucky if makes half of this, not even TC2 that was a phenomenon here, and sold way more tickets than Annabelle was able to surpass this number, because of the terrible ER, I'm pretty sure that it will have the same problem in the rest of the continent, and let's not forget that the first movie wasn't well liked (I enjoyed). I'm currently expecting $100m OS at best. If Warner releases The Nun this year, then you can be ready for a explosion in the same way of Annabelle 1, this character is already iconic, and most of Conjuring fans are excited for her movie, in the same way they're for Annabelle. It's insane when we think that since 2013, almost every year, the biggest horror movie was part of The Conjuring Universe, lol.
