Given the sort of movie it is, MANCHESTER has performed really well. A excellent little run.

And it's far from done either. After the nominations it could get over 50m which would be exceptional.

I think Amazon Studios has done a great job along with Roadside promoting it. I won't be surprised if we see an Oscar winner from them in the next few years.

WTF Passengers. Overestimated a tiny bit :o

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic:  $80,909,256    45.4%
Foreign:  $97,249,022    54.6%

Worldwide:  $178,158,278

That's BOM which hasn't updated a lot of the numbers since 1/1.  It comfortably passed $100M OS this weekend, but I've seen partially updated stuff all over the place.  By tomorrow, I hope everyone will be on the same page and we will have numbers.

BOM doesn't calculate the O/S cume, that usually comes from Comscore/Rentrak.  Specific territory numbers don't factor into it and usually lag.  They seem to have updated O/S actuals for all the other top films and unlike the number given by Comscore on Sunday this one looks like an actual.

It's interesting that Hidden Figures was successful in the US but not so much in Canada, guess it's a cultural thing

La La Land has two top five entries, I wonder if Lionsgate should have gone wider and could have clinched a number 1 position, it's still going to make money though next week when it expands again.

I'm not sure what you are saying. To dissect the overseas numbers at BOM you click the 'foreign' tab and it shows the amounts per country -- and also the dates at which each country's number had updated.  Most are 1/1 for Passengers.

deadline has other numbers but doesn't seem to show all either, or may, I guess I'm waiting until everything is consistent.

BOM does not add up those Foreign totals to get their cumulative O/S total.   It merely presents them and some come in later than others since they only post when they can get actuals and full weekend or weekly charts per territory.  Look at many smaller films where O/S doesn't get reported by ComScore or the Studio and those foreign totals are never completely added up and some don't even have a reported O/S even if they've made 10s of millions.

You can see on top of the Foreign chart where they present the O/S Total and give the date

FOREIGN TOTAL - 12/21/16  n/a $97,249,022

   1/8/17

Fox also has this peculiarity, or at least they did the last time I paid attention with Dragon 2 where they report Puerto Rico as part of their O/S B.O. while also reporting it as part of domestic. So Comscore is counting it for the O/S totals as reported to them by Fox. BOM though is up to their tricks and doesn't count it twice when reporting the full WW number.

Top Canada WE

R1, Sing,Pass, UBW,LLL, Moana, WH, HF, AC, Lion, FB

I haven't found a source yet for Canadian box office that gives final figures (playbackonline.ca gives weekly figures only). Based on weekly figures I think Zootopia did slightly better than Pets in Canada and Dory only beat Zootopia by ~$4M. Would you be able to confirm that?

FWIW, Rogue One has faced infinitely more powerful competition than The Force Awakens ever did. Sing, Passengers, La La Land, Hidden figures, Fences, Moana, Why Him, AC etc etc

What did TFA had to face? Daddy's Home, Chipmunks, Sisters, The Revenant and The Hateful Eight? That was much weaker competition.

The competitive powah we are dealing with here is...slightly more measurable.

Poor A Monster Calls. Some of the comments here are hilarious, you really can't be saying things like that without having seen the movie. There is NOTHING kiddie about A Monster Calls for the millionth time. Someone actually said we've had enough kid-friendly fare lately? Huh...? Do you even know what the movie is about? I know they've done a lousy job advertising but read the plot description at least :P It's about the least kiddie movie you can find. Very adult themes, but dealt with through showing a kid dealing with incredible loss.

Maybe it won't resonate with some people, but I certainly think it would for quite a few more. It was one of the best "awards films" or "awards hopefuls" from last year, that's for sure.

I'm going to see it tomorrow (because when your fave is actually in a GOOD movie you gotta support it) and I read the book. Hoo boy, if this makes even 10 mil in the states I will eat my collection of ticket stubs.
