Apparently, Fox is gonna push for Oscar noms for Logan, so I think it's genuinely possible that's nominated too.  My predicts:

  1. The Papers
  2. Get Out
  3. Call Me by Your Name
  4. Dunkirk
  5. Roman Israel, Esq
  6. Mother!
  7. Molly's Game
  8. Shape of Water
  9. Logan
  10. Phantom Thread

I hope fox push more on war for the planet of the apes, it has higher rating on RT and metacritics, through logan inclusion will be damn cool!

War for the Planet of the Apes, Logan and Wonder Woman are all good enough for Oscar noms but I'd be surprised if any of those three got much more than a few tech noms (maybe a tech win).

Dunkirk's got an excellent shot, excluding that I think Baby Driver or the Big Sick are the only other Summer films that have a good chance.

Now, I think it'd be cool to see a few deserving blockbusters get a nom (because it'd encourage studios to make more Prestige Blockbusters, that could be a cool genre) but I'm not going to hold my breath.

All we need is Dunkirk, Blade Runner, or Logan.  All 3 of those have legitimate shots (I wouldn't be saying Logan if Fox weren't campaigning for it but they are)

Per Clayton Davis, A24 might put Willem Dafoe in lead for The Florida Project. Based on everything that's been said about the film, that'd be some major fraud. I don't think the film is going to be big with the Academy to begin with, and a move to lead would throw away a probable win IMO. Supporting Actor predictions without Dafoe:

1. Michael Stuhlbarg, Call Me by Your Name

2. Colin Farrell, Roman Israel, Esq.

3. Michael Shannon, The Shape of Water

4. Laurence Fishburne, Last Flag Flying

5. Will Poulter, Detroit

Alt: Sam Rockwell, Three Billboards

Will Poulter's not happening yo. Best to just nip that one in the bud right now.

In all likelihood Detroit isn't getting any acting noms (especially when it's not looking like it'll be that strong of a contender in the first place). Armie Hammer has a better shot and could easily coattail in if Call Me by Your Name ends up being a very serious contender (which it's looking like it will be).

I'm gonna go balls to the wall and have these be my July predicts.

Best Picture

Blade Runner 2049

Detroit

Dunkirk

The Florida Project

Get Out

Last Flag Flying

Logan (Why not?)

Mudbound

The Papers

Three Billboards Outside of Ebbings, Missouri (Looks really quirky and funny, but may not fly with the Academy)

Alternates

Baby Driver (Probably will be under the radar by Oscar season, and there's much buzzier films from the summer)

Battle of the Sexes (Thinks this gets actor pushes but just that)

The Big Sick (seems like a well reviewed movie that could get overlooked)

Call Me By Your Name (Great reviews but may be too much for Oscars)

Darkest Hour (Kind of think this just gets the Best Actor push)

The Disaster Artist (I think A24 pushes The Florida Project)

Downsizing (Looks quirky and fun, it could easily make it)
The Glass Castle (Good director, promising trailer, could get lost in the shuffle)

Goodbye Christopher Robin (Good trailer, but Saving Mr Banks missed it and this is very similar)

Phantom Thread (PTA isn't an Oscar shoe in)

Professor Marston and the Wonder Women (Seems like it could go either way)

mother! (May be too much for the Oscars)

Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House (Director is unproven, but looks like it could pull itself in)

The Shape of Water (Del Toro can go either way, but this does look to be like his first real Oscar potential)

Suburbicon (Clooney isn't always consistent)

Wonder Wheel (Woody Allen is inconsistent)

Wonder Woman (Comic book movie, but highly successful)

Other Potential Contenders

All the Money in the World (Scott is inconsistent)

Breathe (It looks promising, but the trailer is a bit hokey)

The Current War (Weinstein may have enough leverage to push it in)

The Greatest Showman (looks lackluster and like straight up bait)

Logan Lucky (Good reviews, but may end up forgotten)

Marshall (Director has a bad track record)

Molly's Game (Untested film director, but has been solid elsewhere)

The Mountain Between Us (trailer doesn't look that promising)

Murder on the Orient Express (trailer makes it seem like it could go either way really)

Roman Israel, Esq. (Not enough info)

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Likely a competitor for techs, but I doubt much else, sadly)

Stronger (A little hokey, Oscars have moved away from these kinds of movies)

Victoria & Abdul (Director has done highly liked prestige stuff before)

War for the Planet of the Apes (Fox seems to be pushing Logan)

Wonder (Looks pretty hokey but maybe they go for it)

I feel Bryan Cranstan has a better shot than Laurence Fishburne. Cranston needs an Oscar nomination.

I also think Detroit is going to get a BP and BD.

Not sure how likely this is but I'd be down with some Linklater wins

i hope the papers would failed in contending oscar, I totally agree a best picture needs to be socially relevant like slumdong millionaire, spotlight and moonlight, but the papers? that is just too much, too political....and being way too oscar bait, which disgust me; and meryl streep, her acting is incredible and marvellous but does she really needs 20 nomination to prove that? her inclusion again this year will be a total waste of place...I would rather some excellent random foreign language performance for that nomination!

3 things:

1. Cranston is lead

2. Cranston is probably in

3. Cranston already has a nomination

Last Flag Flying is a sequel, and Cranston is playing the character that was the lead in the original, so it's not really an unfair bet.

I'll do the acting cats, fuck it. These are gonna be super inaccurate - don't even have trailers for alot of these.

Lead Actor

Dafoe, Florida Project (Winner)

Oldman, Darkest Hour (boring)

Day-Lewis, Phantom Thread

Sutherland, Ella and John

Phoenix, You Were Never Really Here

Lead Actress

Vega, A Fantastic Woman

Mirren, Ella and John (Winner, seems overdue for another somehow)

Leo, Noviate

Lawrence, Mother!

Streep, The Papers

Supporting Actor

Stuhlbarg, Call Me By Your Name

Hammer, Call Me By Your Name (I think one of these two guys wins it)

Mitchell, Mudbound

Shannon, The Shape of Water

Poulter, Detroit (Getting ton of notice and I'm buying Detroit as a contender somewhat - it has tons of buzz, for good and bad)

Supporting Actress

Moore, Wonderstruck (Winner)

Chau, Downsizing

Blige, Mudbound (FTW!)

Spencer, The Shape of Water

Holly Hunter, The Big Sick (My one out there prediction)
