What People seem to Forget about RO's overseas performance is that it suffers from terrible exchange rates. TFA already had to battle bad ER, but it's gotten much worse over the past year. With TFA's exchange rates, RO probably would've ended up around 600m OS, maybe even more.

Star Wars is more of a part of western pop culture it did well in both North and South America and Europe but not in Asia where few knew about the history of Star Wars like in China. It's not far to except $800M+ for a spinoff, you wouldn't except Doctor Strange to do Civil War numbers overseas. The fact that Rogue One being a spinoff did $1B, is very impressive. Only it, The Hobbit, and to a lesser extent Iron Man 3 where the only spinoffs to do $1B. If anything Rogue One makes me feel more confident that Star Wars 8 will do $1.8B-$2.2B.
