Beautifully shot and scored (even if the VFX on the monsters is a bit below par plus at a conception level they’re rather unremarkable outside of the neat way the queen commands them) but feels like a movie that was 3 hours at the script phase, 2 hours after shooting and has been trimmed to its barest in post (remove the credits and it is under 90 minutes). Damon feels very underdeveloped, Pascal is shafted for the tenth time and Dafoe’s character could’ve been played by anyone. Tian is probably the highlight of the film but she’s a two-dimensional character in a movie that otherwise mostly settles for one.

Never feels slow or boring which is a plus but rather feels lacking which is a minus.
