BOT: The Revisiting! The Top 25 of 2012 -- DEADLINE HAS PASSED

Recommended Posts

Okay, so let's do this shindig again. Same standard rules as the 2007 list -- as per @grim22's Year-End Lists.

Rank your top 25 of the year and PM your lists to Grim and myself.

I'm sure much angst and consternation is on the way.

:ohmygod:

P.S. After this, schedule and time permitting, we're going to jump a good ways back in time to 1987 -- to celebrate the 30th anniversary of that year. So fair warning, start watching all those 1987 releases.

To prevent confusion and questions, just in case:

Notable/acclaimed films that are listed as 2010/2011 on IMDb and elsewhere but weren't commercially released in the U.S. until 2012 (which makes them ELIGIBLE here)

The Grey

Haywire

The Intouchables

Jeff Who Lives at Home

Killer Joe

Oslo, August 31

The Raid

Samsara

The Secret World of Arrietty

The Turin Horse

Wuthering Heights

Films that premiered at festivals in 2012 but weren't released in the U.S. until 2013 (INELIGIBLE)

The Act of Killing

Berberian Sound Studio

Byzantium

Frances Ha

A Hijacking

The Hunt

In the House (Dans la maison)

Leviathan (fishing documentary)

Maniac

Much Ado About Nothing

Mud

Museum Hours

Paradise: Love

Paradise: Faith

The Place Beyond the Pines

Post Tenebras Lux

Something in the Air

Spring Breakers

Stories We Tell

To the Wonder

Wadjda

Wolf Children

Corrections/suggestions welcome.

Wolf Children is probably going to be my No 1, so I'd appreciate knowing whether it counts as a 2012 release or not.

Wolf Children (released in 2012 in Japan, listed as 2012 everywhere, didn't have a theatrical run in the States until 2013, but it was apparently so small that BOM didn't even bother to create a page for it. @Tele Came Back it's your call.)

We go off strict US release date to determine eligibility, so if it didn't get a theatrical domestic release until 2013, it's a 2013 movie. (I just checked IMDB and for sure it's 2013, it didn't even screen at any US festivals until 2013 and didn't have a limited release until the fall.)

But like you know something like THE HOBBIT is going to make it in just because people can't remember more than 10 movies from 2012

Or you know, some people enjoyed it enough to put it in their top 25  of the year

Plus, the 1st was, in my opinion, by far the best of the 3
