Box Office: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Hits $22 Million Internationally

Australia is leading the way with $6.2 million, followed by France with $2.7 million and Italy with $2 million.

Germany generated a $1.5 million opening day on Thursday, the second-highest debut day of 2017 behind only “The Fate of the Furious.” Brazil opened with $1.2 million — nearly double the launch of 2014’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which also bowed on a Thursday.

Taiwan opened with $600,000 and a 62% market share. Netherlands launched with $500,000, the highest opening day of 2017 to date and the second-highest Marvel debut day ever, behind only “Captain America: Civil War.”

The sequel is ahead of “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” and “Thor: The Dark World” at the same point in their international runs.

Gross till wednesday itself would have been close to 10m.

Markets left to open

1) China (Easily the biggest market) - 110m

2) Korea (Should grow considerably from the 1st film. I am thinking 4m admissions+) - 30m

3) Japan ( should not do much there) - 15m

4) Russia (Currency has cratered since 1st film and so need to beat AOU to even match 1st one. unlikely) - 25m

5) India   - 5m

beyond these there are smaller markets(Argentina could do non trivial numbers) that combined will gross 20-25m.

210m

currrent markets should do 300m. So overall OS at 510m which is in line with my predictions.

Saw it yesterday and it was good. Not as good as the first one but still enjoyable.

The visuals are exceptional (it's very colorful) and the new characters were a nice addition. But the movie has a pacing issue (2nd act is very dragged) and the songs were forgettable.

With these problems, I'll be surprised if it manages to get to 1 billion.

350m DOM + 540 OS= 890m WW

8/10

Just to point that this Monday, May 1st, will be holiday in several countries (Labor Day). We could see some Sunday bloated figures and of course we will see a bigger Monday than usual. Just for reference if you analyze numbers and try to extrapolate as if this were a normal weekend. It is not.

This will cross one billion ww with ease.

tough considering China is being projected at 120 on the high-end.

400 dom + 120 China = 520.

Needs 480 OS-Ch. Last one did 334 OS-Ch. That much of a bump (44%) is not expected, at least not with ease.

430 OS-Ch will give it 520 + 430 = 950 ww, which is the max it could do ww considering I have taken upper-end of Dom (400) and China (120).

890-930 (910 avg) seems realistic imo.

Exhibitor Relations: GUARDIANS VOL. 2 debuted 57% better than the OG: UK ($15M) OZ ($11M) GER ($8M) FRA ($8M) MEX ($7M) BRZ ($7M) ITA ($4M)

Good number, but below what was needed for 1 billion dollars. See it doing around 850-900 million. Which is completely fine. Disney has another winner.
