BOT's Ranking of the Top 200 Films of All Time Adjusted: THE OFFICIAL COUNTDOWN THREAD (after much delay, the full list on pg.10)

Recommended Posts

Eevin...you can never please everyone. This is a lot of work you put into this so dont listen to those bitching and moaning about your scoring. In fact they are more than welcome to do their own countdown.

Until then this is your countdown and your scoring system if they don't like it then they're more than welcome not participate in this thread. I think you're doing a terrific job.

Great list. Hopefully before you hit the top100 the other list in the main forum is done with its countdown and this list can be moved there cause I think it deserves it.

Always fun to see the arrogance of people.

The list will continue later tonight, but for now here are some hints as to the next 5:

  • An animated film
  • Three 2010s films
  • A faith-based film
  • A disaster film
  • The forum's favorite movie of last year
  • @That One Valerian's ultimate stan

Time to get back into the thick of it.:whip:

The next two films? An incredibly popular animated sequel from everyone's favorite studio, and the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time in North America.

Despicable Me 2 (2013)

"[giggles] Bottom."

Rank adjusted for inflation: 119

Lists: 13

Average points: 36.246

Rotten Tomatoes: 73%

Following the surprising success of Despicable Me in 2010, Illumination Studios returned with Despicable Me 2- a film with all of the goodwill, characters, and popularity of the original, with none of the charm, wit, or genuine emotion that made the first one so popular. It was essentially destined to be a breakout smash from the beginning, earning $368m domestic and becoming (at the time) the second-biggest animated film ever worldwide. It sent Illumination down its destined path - creating films that are easy to market and entertain kids despite failing to challenge the audience it serves. There's much to loathe about Despicable Me 2, but perhaps the thing to loathe most about it is not the annoying Minions, but the legacy that it left behind.

@WrathOfHan, happy now?

The Passion of the Christ (2004)

"Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani (My God, My God, why have You forsaken me)?

Rank adjusted for inflation: 63

Lists: 12

Average points: 43.099

Rotten Tomatoes: 49%

To those who say that there is no modern audience for a faith-based film, I give you The Passion of the Christ: a 124-minute, R-rated film directed by Mel Gibson infamous for its obscene use of violence. The film is so polarizing that it makes the arguments over Batman v Superman look silly - some call it a masterpiece. Others call it torture porn. Whatever its content, The Passion of the Christ was incredibly successful: it made $370m domestic (still a record today for an R-rated film) and $612m worldwide, making it the most successful independent film and the most successful Christian film of all time. While controversy may have been part of the reason for the film's stunning gross, it was also simply the fact that it was able to lure in hundreds of churchgoers and nonbelievers alike - numbers no faith-based film may ever see again.
