God that Indian film died.

Epic weekend drop coming.

Expected, they're always front loaded.   I wonder if the inflated ticket prices also were brought down to normal.  I'm more surprised Latin Lover took a nose diver according to early Friday #s.

Thisi may be a bit off-topic, or old-topic ... but Rogue One ($532,2M, #7 DOM) is not surpassing TDK ($534,9M #6 DOM) by a mere $2,8M.

Do you think Disney will re-release it to get to that sixth position? Let's say, waiting for a not overbooked week this summer to suddenly give it a couple of weeks with 1500 screens . Or may be re-releasing it in cinemas some weeks before Episode VIII or Han Solo movie?

If it was $200m which impacts TV revenues etc then yes - or maybe $500m because it's a milestone yes but  otherwise Disney's not really apt to push for those kind of records.

They didn't even push Alice 2 above $300M WW, even though it was ~500K away in the end. I hope they do push Beauty and the Beast above $500M though.

Let's see if they gave B&B Drive in Double Features with GOTG2 or not.  Cinderella was almost flat with AOU opening (which helped it get over $200m) while Jungle Book was down I think 40% with Civil War.

Also, Rogue One has been out on Blu-ray/DVD for over a month now. I'm actually surprised it hasn't left theaters completely. Would a re-release even have a great impact after a film's out for purchase already?

I have just checked Finding Dory daily box office, and by the last week of october it was showing in 345 theaters, getting 900k week box office, but suddenly the first week of september got bumped to 2075 theaters for a week, and got $3.2M that week. After that came down again to 500 theaters.

Don't know the purpose because by that time, it was already settled between Episode I $475.5M and TDK 534,8. But the "extra theaters bump" was there before the end of Finding Dory's run. So, why not doing it with Rogue One to surpass TDK, or with BATB to get to $500M?

A Labor Day weekend expansion is pretty common for Disney and usually happens for their biggest summer blockbuster regardless of reaching milestones. Univeral also has done it in the past with Jurassic World, although I suspect that was deliberate to push it above $650M.

An expansion for Rogue One might be too late to have a major effect because of the Blu-Ray/DVD release. But I can see it happening for BatB if it is $1 or $2 million short of $500M.
