Odd that SMH seems to be having effect on on WW at all. Playing to different demos?

Wasnt there a report about older women making up a larger share of Wonder Woman business in later weeks?

Nah. Both are good movies. People want to go see both of them.

With its Tuesday gross, Wonder Woman hits a 3.60 multiplier and enters the top 10 multipliers of all time for films that opened to $70+ million. I expect it to finish with the 6th best multiplier of all time (it needs to hit ~$391 million total to do so).

Best Multipliers Ever for $70+ Million Opening Films (Friday Openers):

Rank / Title / Opening Weekend Gross / Multiplier

  1. Avatar (2009) — 77.0 million (9.73)
  2. Finding Nemo (2003) — 70.3 million (4.84)
  3. Zootopia (2016) — 75.1 million (4.55)
  4. Inside Out (2015) — 90.4 million (3.94)
  5. American Sniper (2015) — 89.3 million (3.92)
  6. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) — 248.0 million (3.78)
  7. Toy Story 3 (2010) — 110.3 million (3.76)
  8. The Incredibles (2004) — 70.5 million (3.71)
  9. Finding Dory (2016) — 135.1 million (3.60)
  10. Wonder Woman (2017) — 103.3 million (3.60)

Peace,

Mike

WW has a very strong female, older, and those that rarely see movies in theaters audience. They are known for not rushing out to see movies which explains its legs.

While this run is obviously nothing like MBFGW's, it does have some similarities.  When Greek Wedding was doing it's thing, it brought out all kinds of people that perhaps don't go to the movies often or ever.  I mentioned this once years ago when discussing the film in that I saw the film with my Portuguese wife (who went to the movies about once every 5 years...one of the multitude of reasons we aren't together anymore), both of her parents, who didn't speak English perfectly and had never been to a movie in the 14 years we were together, and our two kids.  So it brought out a lot of people who could relate to the theme of immigrant parents and their kids marrying munga cakes (the white guy).

Perhaps WW is doing something similar.  There has to be an explanation for the unheard legs WW is displaying.  My guess is there's older women and perhaps even older men going to see this movie who perhaps never or rarely go to the theater.  It would at least explain why the legs have not just been good but unheard of for a superhero film.

Outside of the initial hit on Wondy OW, it didn't seem to impact Guardians Vol. 2 much. Guardians held very, very well late for four consecutive weeks/weekends. I honestly believe the superhero flicks are what have pleased the general viewers more than anything this summer. Well, up until recently with Baby Driver. And, now, we'll see with Apes, Dunkirk, Valerian and Atomic Blonde looking like crowd pleasers and/or very well made flicks.

So does that mean it's the leggiest among 100 M openers?

That would make sense since the best legs on a 100 mill opener was the first one to do it, and that would be Spider-man in 2002. :)

Duh...forgot about TFA.

If it manages to hit at least $391 million total (achieving a 3.79+ multiplier), then yes, it will be the leggiest film ever among $100+ million openers! :)

Peace,

Mike

Taking out the animated films, which use to have way better multipliers, this is a club with the biggest DOM film, the biggest WW film and a Clint Eastwood film. 3 gods and, now, a goddess.

That's a Wednesday opener, right?

No the original opened on a Friday and was the first to crack 100 mill OW.  The second opened on a Wednesday.
