'1974' - Broad Green Film Based on Amityville Murders, Needs New Title Badly

Recommended Posts

Per Deadline, Casey La Scala - executive producer of Donnie Darko and one of many producers of the infinitely-delayed Amityville: The Awakening - is taking another crack at America's most famous haunted house. This time around he's writing and directing a picture based on the real-life murders committed there by Ronald DeFeo Jr. in November of 1974. The 1982 Orion Pictures film Amityville II: The Possession by director Damiano Damiani was also based on this event and made $37.7 million in adjusted domestic theatrical gross. It'll be interesting to see if La Scala's film retains the exploitative, explicitly-supernatural approach of Damiani's film or tries to play things more realistically. Perhaps the more relevant question, though, is whether this one will ever actually come out. For what it's worth, Broad Green Pictures has signed on to produce the film, with production aimed to start around September.
