Asgard blesses us early. SMH 7.4, Apes 7.1, WW 1.2M Tues

Recommended Posts

The Tuesday increase is not bad for Apes. The opening weekend wasn't great but the Tuesday increase is pretty much normal. A films first Tuesday rarely increases all that much in comparison to the rest of its run.

Bad for apes 3. Fox must be mightily pissed with how AC and Apes 3 fared this summer.

Logan is their shining jewel so far this year.

Will be something if Logan out-grosses both of those combined ... 226+ vs 226 (74+152)

Yeah it's an average bump. Spidey's increase feels like the first impressive day since OD.

Yeah, War's +22.6% is not far below Spidey's last Tue bump (+23.4%)

Mon, Tue, Wed holds for Apes are/will all be usual. But Thu is something to watch out for considering D, V, GT will have their previews.

Nice increases for both. This is only War's first Tuesday... It was never going to jump something insane. And, Homecoming, solid bump in sales. Down about 50% from last Tuesday. With summer days, Homecomg still appear that it will gross $300M+ DOM without sweating it much.

Spider-Man really has an advantage of Summer weekdays. If it would've opened in May it probably would've struggled to 300m, but now it's gonna pass it relatively easily.

Makes me wonder if Guardians could have approached 400M if it had a July release date.

It's sort of a fallacy. We see big weekend drops in July along with good weekdays, and then feel that due to lesser weekdays things would have been bad in May.

But if it released in May, it's weekend drops wouldn't be that bad cause a good portion of dough from weekdays would have shifted to weekends, instead of just disappearing.

It's an interesting question. Hindsight being 20/20, I actually believe a flip flop of release dates would've helped Guardians Vol. 2 and Homecoming. May was barren and Spidey would've been the first superhero flick of the summer... Probably a the same OW and slightly better legs. Wondy would've done her thing come June. Then, in July, Guardians Vol. 2 being a hyped sequel following the goodwill of the first, would've opened huge and enjoyed the benefit of summer days. Guardians Vol. 2 would've easily made $400M+ in released on July 7th. That flick would've killed on summer days... More than Spidey.

But Guardians got two holiday bumps and very little competition on the 2nd weekend.

Still, summer days off of an OW just under $150M would've been bonkers. Much, much, much higher than the days it had week... Just look at Guardians' weekdays here.

All of them, so far, are well under Spidey. It's not even close. Guardians Vol. 2 had a first and second Tuesday of $12M and $5.9M. Homecoming had a first and second Tuesday of $15.1M and $7.4M. Guardians Vol. 2 opened to $146M, Homecoming opened to $117M.

Overall, summer weekdays obviously only influence a movie's gross by maybe 5-10% (if people want to see it, they'll see it regardless of when it opens), but those 5-10% percent can sometimes decide whether it'll pass a certain milestone. Overall, though, Spider-Man would've been a success even if it came out in September, so ultimately it's not that decisive.
