No, France and Spain are good for superhero movies, Germany, Italy and Japan not.

No, they are just decent, france had avatar and titanic both above $140m, but it's almost unheard in france that a superhero movie to gross more than $40m,

Cap 3 grossed $23m in france in 2016 and that was the highest grossing superhero movies of the year while moana and rogue one were both approching $40m, even the revenant and ice age 5 made more than cap 3

how can u conclude that as good?

Not so good. Last year, all Deadpool, BvS, Civil War and Suicide Squad did about 10-12m euros in Spain. In terms of market size it equates to about $200m in USA. Decent numbers, but nothing spectacular.

Wonder Woman is a movie about WW1... and some may say depicts Germany in Bad Light.

WOM may be good.. but if everyone exits and tell their friends that their country is put in bad light.. there will be no positive WOM effect.

But I really doubt that a movie that portrays Germany as the bad guys has no negative effect at the box office(in Germany).

I don't know if you know how this issue is treatened in Germany. Movies about WW1 and WW2 can be popular here, Inglourious Basterds had 2,15M admissions in 2009. Jewish slaught Nazi's in that movie...

And for me that movie tried not to blame Germans too much and it tried to show that not only Germans were guilty in the history (--> native american).

Doesn't change the fact that using WW1 was n idiotic idea.

I thought this would fit quite well as WW1 was a totally new sort of war, unseen until that.

Any possibility that WW can hava good legs as other countries?

with Transformers next week, no I don't think so

btw, just saw the movie - I don't think the fact that Germans are the "bad guys" here makes much difference, it's probably just the combination of little known actors and little known heroine. The movie is actually ok, about on the level of the first Thor movie which faced the same difficulties with the myth/action clash.

As the increases among family stuff and general good holds indicate, weather was ok for theaters this time, which makes the Wonder Woman number look not very good. All Eyez on Me had the highest PTA but was very frontloaded. Among holdovers, King Arthur managed to make it to 500k total - I don't know about those sequels, doesn't look promising. Pirates 5 crossed 2mil total, the franchise ist still alive even when it will probably miss the blockbuster mark. … GotG2 is now the top performer among MCU movies but will also miss those 3mil. And Baywatch surprised with a fine hold, seems to have some decent WOM!

Next weekend: The fifth Transformers movie hits theaters … while the franchise showed a decline, it should still become #1 by a wide margin, an opening in the 500k range should be possible, maybe even more with Wonder Woman obviously not attractive to the action oriented crowd.

Declining franchise, ok, but today's 8pm show for Transformers 5 is rather empty ... actually, shockingly so. 4 hours to go and only 1 (one) seat sold atm. For now, let's put a big question mark behind my 500k number: ?

(WW is not selling too hot either but has as least more than 20 bookings for the same slot)

One surely hopes so (though I myself have no plans to watch it, ever). It may also be that the Wednesday start got a little hushed up, our usual opening day is Thursday. Still a bad sign if not even the core fanbase turns up for OD.

How has this franchisee performed in Germany/Austria?

total admissions for the Transformer series in Germany - no blockbusters but solid performances:

T1: 1.511.919

T2: 1.908.646

T3: 2.573.619

T4: 2.507.644

all of them were summer openings, so pretty comparable. All of them had shitty multipliers, so a 500k OW would probably make T5 the worst performer in the series.

First weekend estimates for Germany from insidekino.de, and the motto is "When Giants Fall":

#1: T5 - 375k (incl. Wed)

#2: WW - 140k (-35%)

#3: Bay - 120k (-45%)

#4: PotC5 - 85k (-50%)

#5: Mummy - 65k (-55%)

Roughly, we're down to half the admissions of T3 and 4. And that's a generous estimate for T5 if I look at yesterday's numbers ... weather seems to become more theater-friendly over the weekend. A bit surprised about WW's hold, I thought it would get hit a lot harder by T5 - let's see if that number holds. And Baywatch might come in higher once more, seems to be a Sat or Sun kind of movie.

Love to see that the figure from all over the world are dropping hard from the last one, except china

WW deserve that unexpected hold, it's really a good film

Diary of a Wimpy Kid does extremely well here :o 2nd Trend has it at 25k, down only 14%!!! Can't understand that...

WW drop is >40% now :( 125k... But that seems to be the average drop this weekend (beside the one above...) so still OK I think, as long as it doesn't drop further as the weekend goes...
