It's nothing a seasoned movie fan can't deal with (assuming they've seen their share of R-rated violence before). You do see a fair amount of the aftermath of violence (in particular DiCaprio -- repeatedly -- after his

bear encounter

, and Inarritu doesn't shy away from arrows through necks, extremities being whacked off, that sort of thing.

I feel like I've been kinda negative about it overall, and I do want to stress that I liked it: I dig these sorts of man vs. nature stories, and it really is breathtaking in many ways. Inarritu does bug me with some of his choices, though. Go in expecting a straightforward genre movie and you'll be relatively satisfied, I think. If you expect something that succeeds in a deeper way, all bets are off.

after birdman an inarritu movie with minimal dialogue sounds like just the thing. a shame it sounds like he's relapsed back into his misery porn addiction though.

I can be entertained from pure cinematography is it's good enough.  I'm just hoping there's substance to it as well for a great film.

No, I watched all Inarritu movies since Amores Perros. I was referring to the term "misery porn", very fitting

DICAPRIO WILL WIN THE OSCAR. 99.9% GUARANTEE.

The Academy will no doubt find someone they can give it to instead. If SJ is too much of a flop for Fass to win, then I guess it will have to either be Damon or a Redmayne repeat. Actually, Redmayne, Blanchett, and Mara could all win if the Academy wants to go for an LGBT agenda this year. Kinda like their "see, we're not racist!" agenda of the Berry/Denzel year.

Well it would be nice, but I won't believe it until I see it.

They should just give it to him for Wolf of Wall Street this year, since they didn't award one of the top 10 performances in cinema history the year it actually came out.
